I have a Nexus 4, you have questions. Fire away.

Periodically I get an error sounding tone playing, but I can't see any reason, just now it was going constantly, the only thing that stopped it, other than switching phone off, was activating airplane mode, however, I tried every connection in turn to see what wireless connection it was that was causing it, and none of them made any difference, I tried bluetooth, wifi, wireless screen, mobile network, gps, but they didn't stop the noise. I just left airplane mode on for 5 minutes, and when I switched it off the phone made the noise a couple of times, but now seems to have stopped. I also used task manager to kill all tasks, in case it was a programme or app running in the background that was causing it, but no joy. It did it quite a lot when I first had it new, but then stopped, but seems to have started again now, it's been doing it a lot to day specifically. Anyone any ideas? The tone it plays is not a preloaded ringtone or notification tone that I can find, it is a 3 note descending tone, that is off key, and sounds discordant.

Can anyone help me work out what it is?

Have you tried a hard reset? You have to hold down the power button for 30 seconds or so until the phone reboots.

Worth a try. If all else fails you may need to do a factory reset.

thanks for responding... we tried the hard reset to no avail. I'm afraid I'm technologically useless... how would I go about a factory reset and are there any risks in me doing this? thanks again!

There is no real serious risk in terms of the phone hardware etc. But you can lose some of your saved data. You just go to Settings/backup and reset. Your apps and Gmail, calendar etc. are all stored in the cloud so you are fine with this stuff. After the reset you just reenter your Gmail account and you will be able to restore your apps etc. If there is important information on the phone like saved game data or other preferences you can use the Helium app to back things up. It has a few minor technical things to know but it has a good tutorial. Nothing major.

Once you are satisfied with your backup status you can go ahead and select the factory reset option in your settings/backup and reset section. The phone will prompt you to confirm, just say yes.

Good luck.

thank you!! It appears to have worked with some data lost as expected but as I'm typing my son is telling me that it appears to be reinstalling alot of his stuff so all good! He's particularly relieved to be able to access the google play store... vital at 13! Do you have any idea why this should have happened and if it is likely to happen again?
Thanks again!!

After updating to android 4.3 I can't connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Does anyone else have this problem?

There are complaints to almost every update, even the new 4.3. Just remember there are more users that don't have problems versus the few that do.

I have 2 questions/worries...
-My friend in the UK has bought me the Nexus 4 and is bringing it over with him, which means about 2 months will have passed from the time he recieved it to the the time I get it switched on. Can this damage the battery?

-Will it work on all networks in Finland?

No, just do a full charge before use.

Please help with the following queries:
1.Can I sign in to my google account on the nexus4 without being logged in on gmail / gtalk?!
2. If I have to necessarily remain signed on to gmail, is there a password protection that I can employ on my screen so that my gmail is not accessible to everybody who lifts my phone!

When I delete my google account from my nexus4, all the contact details disappear and I am left with only the telephone numbers but no names, pics or other details. What could be going wrong?

Can notification sounds by changed for apps like twitter/facebook etc? I'm using Nova Launcher if that matters at all.

Thank you. Having had my Nexus 4 since March, I was relieved that it had no problems when it updated to 4.3. But the minor bug fix cut me out from my Bluetooth Speakers. I am running stock/unrooted. Do I just wait until Google gets around to fixing this or are there workarounds that don't involve rooting?

Well, I went back to scratch and re-paired my speaker devices and now it works.

Hello. My Nexus 4 isn't located by Android Device Manager. I've gone thru the process in Google's help feature and I'm up to the point where I'm told to 'Clear data'. I now have an option to 'ok' or 'cancel', but I'm worried that if I press 'ok', it will wipe my phone. Can you provide any reassurance?
