I have an EVO ...

I have no idea how long you've been in that contract mind you, but the ETF is probably not as much as you think, as it's prorated based on the length of your fulfillment.

Your phone itself, could even be worth more, selling it out right. :)

I believe it prorated after a certain amount of time(6 months)

My contract with ATT is up at the end of Nov. They are charging me $195 for the ETF. Trust me ATT is a crap company. I don't plan on going back to their service.

Coming from a palm pre I have grown accustomed to that 16 million 24 bit screen, compared to the 65k hero, tp2, and similar devices. But does anyone know that the 65k limit was a windows and android 1.5 limitation and the evos screen can dish out more than a measly 65k?

Real question, does the evos screen look vibrant like the pre or washed out like the hero?

The screen is great and actually the color looks richer with deeper blacks.

For those of you who were wondering about the HDMI cable:

Android Forums - View Single Post - Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

when you search Arrow Electronics - North American Components (NAC) use this part # 687860003

Cost: $8.40
Length: 6.5'

Mine arrived yesterday. Looks to be high quality (and it was a LOT cheaper than the ones you'll see in the Sprint store will be). Was going to wait for Monoprice to get them in, since they'll likely be even cheaper, but I'm not that patient. :o

This thread is not making the wait any easier!! I held off upgrading my phone since August last year, passed on all those junkberry phones.

ok here is my EVO question.....When is June 4th?

Not freakin soon enough!!!

Does anyone have a good "real world" estimate on battery life yet? I'm just not buying the "6 hours of talk time" that Sprint is claiming. Im kinda afraid that a 1500mAh battery wont get the job done.

If its better than the Pre's horrible battery life.. then we're all good lol. I could drain that battery in 2 hours if I really wanted to.

According to their terms, you should only have to pay around 90 bucks. How are you saying it's twice that?

Hey Guys,

Great work! One question...would you guys drop the Pre for this phone? I am a current Pre user and love webOS. I was repair tech for the iphone and played with them since day 1 til last year. When I got my Pre it was so intuitive. My wife got a Hero and i played with and saw some things I wish they would improve on...like closing apps and witching between apps. I did pre-order the EVO. But reading DOCs remarks looks like the phone is fast but webOS is still it.

Thanks

For you, stay with the crappy hardware. Android does everything webOS can, but it may not be intuitive enough for you. You don't close apps in Android, the system closes it itself after an extended period of non-use. Which is helpful because you can call it back and multi-task without killing battery life. I've owned 5 Pre's and 1 Hero. The switch took me a couple of days to get used to, but I was amazed at just how much more I could do with 1.5 Android than what I could do with a Pre, period. I have been running this version of sense on my phone for 2 months now. It flies on the Hero, will do circles around an overclocked pre on the Evo. Plus bluetooth file transfer comes standard on Sense 2.1, you don't even have to download the app. switching between programs is easy, the notifications bar tells you the same things as WebOS' and the screen is very responsive to touch (Evo more since it will have new technology in the screen to recognize more fingers in multi-touch, and what you use, nail, thumb, glove on/off). If you are willing to come to android with an open mind, you will love the phone. If not, then you're just not going to like it. Not being mean, this is just me being honest. I've made the switch, and I'm happy I did. WebOS' beta software compared to android and caused me a great deal of frustration other than the crappy hardware. The hardware is what drew the line for me.

If its anywhere close to a stock Hero (1.5) with the same battery you won't be disappointed at all. I was getting 23-24 hours on a single charge on the hero before I rooted/ROM. When I had the Pre I was getting 6hours of non-use out of it (just sitting in my pocket). The pre was horrible, the Hero was manageable. I got an extended battery around the time I rooted and loaded various 2.1 ROMs (many of which have had 100% runtime issues) and it wouldn't be fair to compare right now. I could give you a trial run today with my current ROM if you'd like.

Well, I am getting screwed. That is another reason I don't like ATT. I have been with them for around 12ish years. Well Cingular, before but they were bought out by ATT.

One of the major issues that many of my friends/colleagues have had with the Pre hardware was with the headphone jack. Shockingly enough, Palm used a really cheap headphone jack that would get stuck in headset mode when you physically removed your headset, but the phone would keep recognizing that the headset was there. It made it really fun answering calls but not being able to hear the caller.

Did any of you who have been lucky enough to test out the EVO try using the headset? If so, how did it sound/function, and were there any "sticking" issues?
