ALso , how was the rendering of web pages ...? fast and if so what browser were you using?

Besides the insidious slow charging of the battery , were there anything else that kind of bothered/irked/worried you about the evo?

I have to 100% agree with Keith.... my #1 impression of the device was speed. The thing is just flat out fast. Webpage apps voice search everything was just smooth. The only time I notice a freeze was when apps installed.

I didn't see a problem anywhere .... see the review of the other htc device i don't think its different. I used the stock one and skyfire. Skyfire is pretty nice I don't like how they changed the way they show video but a good browser.

The screen is like the Hero's, maybe a little firmer when you press it. Actually, I can't tell if it's glass or lexan to be honest. It repels smudging as well as the Hero too. I was worried because in videos, it doesn't seem that way.

It feels just as slim as an HD2, just really really wide... at least coming from the Pre / Hero.

ok great, and thanks, ya I know its pretty wide but width wise I have no problem that gourgeous screen makes up for it. Can't wait to get it.

Also all you pre owners (doc31) I have been a pre owner since June 6th of last year when it was released and every Android device I touched I thought it was missing something and liked my pre better, but after giving the HTC Hero a shot. I bought it and said I will use it for at least my 30 days befor returning it I could not imagine going back to the pre. There are just to many features missing and the built quality is just terrible.

The EVO doesn't have the Incredible's optical joystick nor the NexusOne's trackball. Any issues placing the cursor for text editing?

HTC claimed the screen was big enough not to need the controls, but then they put the direction keys on the soft keyboard. I was hoping to use one of the other keyboards and save the screen real-estate of the cursor keys. Is the screen large/precise enough to select/place text with just a finger?

Did it feel like the Incredible's screen too? That has some torture test videos out. The HD2 does as well, assuming THC left the that screen in place.

well I can't see why he wouldn't be annoying there is a big difference between a glass and plastic screen. Also taking into consideration that I can't remember the last phone where HTC didn't use glass I highily doubt that this is any different. I would assume its the exact same screen as the HD2 which we all know is glass.

Yes, imo it's closer to the Incredible than the Pre (slightly more give I think)... truthfully I think it's just hard plastic like lexan, I didn't do the flick test but it's probably plastic because it seemed to have the same treatment the Hero has to it that allows for smooth finger movements unlike the Samsung Moment.

Yeah, my buddy confirmed it when I asked him earlier that day. He said he just grabbed a battery sitting in the Repair Center because they killed it from playing YT videos.

I am kind of glad that HTC hasn't done the battery shuffle that a lot of companies do (coughBBcough), If I recall correctly, this series of batteries has now worked for the TP2, Hero, HD2, Incredible, Eris, Desire, and Legend.

The Hero has a glass screen with an oleophobic coating. Other sites are also reporting that the Evo has an identical display to the HD2, 4.3" glass TFT LCD. The Incredible was built with (supposedly) gorilla glass, as was reportedly the N1. I doubt they would create a phone that is basically one large screen and then give it a plastic/polymer covering.
