i just can't get over the bezel on the xl

I really don't mind it. If it were smaller then you'd have to reach down further to hit the navigation buttons, so it makes it more comfortable in the hand to me.

Add to that I liek that if I'm holding the phone horizontally, I can grab on to the bezel without fear of hitting back or home or something.

The bezels don't bother me near as much as I thought they would. In fact, I kind of like them. Coming from the Note 7, I couldn't hold that phone on the bottom without accidentally hitting one of the capacitive keys. That always annoyed me. I much prefer on-screen buttons anyway, especially after using the 3 previous generations of the Moto X before the Note.

I actually like the bezel on the Pixel. I don't quite understand the obsession with having the screen going from edge to edge. That was one of my main complaints with the S7 Edge. I was constantly doing things I didn't want to do. The Note 7 was better, but I still like to have a little bezel at least. I like having that chin on the Pixel when watching video or just to pick the phone up without touching the screen. It would be nice to have a speaker in that space though. I have seen a few people make that comment and I would agree.

Choices are good though. If you can't get past the bezel, choose another phone. Plenty good phones to choose from.

I'm with you ^
People seem to buy phones for status fashion statements sometimes even more than functionality Lol.

As for bezels, I like to have a place to hold it and not touch the screen.

Amen. To me the best part of the Nexus 6P was that it has a bezel that I could hold it with in my big clumsy paws. It's also the best thing about the iPhone. I was happy to see it on the Pixel, especially the smaller version.

Jerry and others are 100% right. The bezels are actually a good thing. If you actually had it in your hand and used it you would realize how they are actually helpful. It isn't as awkward typing and is more comfortable for the thumbs.

I think the bezel hate is way overblown. Especially with the Pixel XL. I have the black and the only time I notice the bezel is when reading other people talk about them in tech forums. Most people that have actually had it in hand can confirm that they are not bad at all. Only people that haven't actually held them seem to complain. But hey we are all different and if that is the biggest worry someone has then cool. I just disagree.

I don't disagree about the ergonomics of having a bezel. I do disagree with Google's not including front-firing speakers (even if it were just the one) when they decided they were going to have that much space. Not sure what their reasoning was behind the decision to point it away from the listener.

Agree that they probably dropped the ball with the lack of dual speakers on the front or at least like the HTC 10 set up, one can be in the ear piece. the 6P had a nice bold sound, why not continue that tradition? Even a single speaker can sound good but nothing's as well balanced as two.

I can understand that. I have never had an HTC phone with boom sound or a phone with good front facing speakers like it so I guess I don't miss it for that reason. I never really use the speakers much anyway. If I am going to watch a movie I pop on headphones so for my use I never thought of it as a important feature for me. But I can see why some would be upset at Google for not using the space for some speakers.

So being upset for not using the space for speakers makes sense but being upset for having the bezel size still doesn't make sense in my opinion.

Oh, I hadn't heard of any issues with the V20. The G5 yes, V20 I've heard rave reviews about so far but not a lot of people have them so you probably know way more than me on that one.

No bootloop issues with the G5 whatsoever. It was the V10 that did

Personally I never liked the on-screen buttons. If they had put the buttons under the screen you'd get more space.

The first few Galaxy phone put the capacitive buttons on the bezel as well. I wish google did that with the pixel/xl
Samsung also does their own thing and flips the back and recent buttons around which makes things extremely confusing for people who switch from a Galaxy phone to something else, and vice versa.

As far as capacitive buttons on a Google phone, you'll never see it. Ever. Google has made it pretty clear ever since Android 4.0 dropped that their move was to put virtual navigation buttons on the screen. Extremely unlikely that they will ever backtrack from that.

Doesn't bother me at all, while watching videos and playing games gives a nice place to grip the phone.

there's the blank space on the bottom bezel below the screen, then you have the on screen buttons. in reality the usable screen space is a lot less than say the note 7. i compared google maps screen size to my note 7 and the size was way smaller.
i dont know what phone to go to, since i have to get rid of the note 7 and i love this phone.

As a person who has used the Blackberry Leap and the iPhone 6s Plus I'm very used to the bottom chins being rather large. And you low what, i actually like it ^_^. The reason why is because when I'm playing racing games, its nice to hold onto each side.

Now that I'm using a pixel I find I don't mind a bit of bezel. Less chance of accidental touches. Galaxy phones weren't too bad but hit the buttons a few times.

I used to mock the bezels until I used a Pixel. It actually it easier to use the on screen buttons when you're holding the phone with one hand. With the Note 7, it has a tiny bezel with the button there as well and it make it kinda wobbly to hold when trying to hit the buttons...

On my 4th day and the bezels are annoying. Waste of space and I keep tapping them to try to do things. I get the OP
