i just don't understand why people turn off AOD?

I turned it off for now. It seems like its two lock screen screens to get to the home page.

first unlock takes you to the lock screen then second unlock takes you to the home page.

I have a Gear S3 Frontier watch...no use for AOD. I just look at my watch!

This, together with the LED light to know if I have notifications pending and the Wave to wake up made me realize that it was not necessary for me having the AOD. I mean it doesn't use too much power but even at 1% per hour that's 17% less than it would be available to me otherwise, plus I found myself putting it face down most of the time at work, I don't know, maybe the novelty of it wore off too quickly I think, about 2 days.

Re: i just don't understand....

AOD is a feature I must have, regardless of battery.

I agree with everyone here! Coming from my old Nexus 6P with Ambient Display (Half baked from Google at best) AOD Works beautifully well and it's soo customizeable! It's one of the Galaxy S8's best features in my opinion! It just always works consistently!

Absolutely, Between the LED indicator, and AOD, i'm never worried anymore.

I love AOD. Keeps me from turning on my phone so often, even with my S2 watch. I save more battery than I use with the AOD.

It definitely saves battery. When I think about how many times a day I used to turn on my screen during the day I am saving way more with AOD

I completely forgot about this!
For folks who are interested, you can turn this on under Settings - Accessibility - Dexterity and Interaction - Easy Screen Turn on

whaaaaaa?? never knew that, coolest thing so far

I had a Moto X 2013. I think Moto did this the best. The screen would go off until the device sensed that it was being moved around and would show the info. When I left Moto, I didn't have a device that had some kind of AOD until the Nexus 5X. And even then, it didn't seem as good as Moto's. Since then, I haven't been concerned about it.

You can set pressing the home button from your AOD to unlock. That's how I have mine set.

of course, anyone can do anything they want for any reason they wish.... but i don't understand turning off AOD to save battery.

i mean, it doesn't use much. but more importantly, you can put it in your pocket or face down, and the AOD shuts off.

so... you can have AOD on, never have it lit and using battery, and once in a while when you want to know the time or your alerts, just flip it face up and look... then flip over next.

I'm not worried about it burning out the battery, only burning in the screen.

Not really if you have the fingerprint or iris sensor enabled

Mine doesn't turn off when flipped over for some reason I got the s8 plus.

Because I sit at a computer all day and can see the time in the lower right corner of my screen. And when I'm not at a computer, my s2 shows me my notifications, and the cable box in my bedroom shows me the time at night. No need for AOD. Plus, I'm not glued/addicted to my phone constantly checking for updates and messages.

No because you're glued to your computer screen all day lol

Where is this setting? what do i have to enable or disable?
I have fingerprint, iris, face and pattern unlock. I turned on AOD and press the home button which takes me to the lock screen.
I looked and searched settings but didn't find this feature you speak of.

I still have my S6 and coming from a Moto X, the S6 was a big let down compared to the moto X AOD / breathing, if you had a Moto X, you know what I mean.
I'm really looking forward to the S8 AOD. I get mine in a few weeks!

You will find it under settings > display > navigation bar.

And when enabled you need to long press it until it vibrates and unlocks as oppsosed to just tapping the home button
