I LOVE my Nexus (sarcasm) - complaint thread

The complaints are valid. I had two nexus devices and that was enough. I, like the others had the same problem. It affirms my decision to dump the nexus. Happy I did. The SG2 is leaps and bounds better issue wise. I hope the note/journal is par with the SG2 hardware wise.

On another note, I also believe people when they say their nexus is rocking and they don't experience issues. That is probably true and why people are riding the nexus out beyond the return period.

I wish I got a good one. I like the nexus, but the problems mine had were intolerable. If someone says the phone sucked for them, they are probably right (mine did.) If someone says their nexus is working awesome, it probably is.

The inconsistent nature of the nexus is what drives me bat chit. Some are awesome and some are junk. I am real intrigued as to why the quality is so polar.

I don't understand why people dismiss the complaints, do you go to a restaurant and get a crappy meal that you payed for and decide not to complain about it? If no one complained about the flaws and defects of a product, new or old the company will never improve the product.

Do you want google to go through samsung again for a nexus2 with no improvements to the radio or try to make the battery life something that places their phone above the rest? Maybe with no complaints about the camera, why bother changing that? Oh but "it's a developers phone" so no one has the right to complain about a phone they paid for.

no doubt people are not patience, and sales people are quick to sell you a phone that you feel is a great phone. I purchased this phone knowing that there will be some bugs. I wonder what this forum will look like in june. You see it's not samsung it's not verizon, it's waiting for updates. If you are not patient , and need a phone that absolutely works in every single way just go back to a flip phone. This phone is the first of its kind on the verizon network. For those who know what this phone can do, and are patient will not regret it. There is no way that htc motorola and all of the other manafactures phones do not have bugs issues problems and fixes. Use your brain people. Root your phone get the rom or settings to your liking n enjoy the experience. If you bought this phone thinking that it will be perfect from the beginning, that's how much you know about android and smartphones. Go rip yourself off , and buy a different phone that you will complain about problems with it as well. I might be sounding harsh, but some people on the forum act like they were smart enough to develop this technology. If so your name would be on the phone.
That makes the most sense.

I don't know how the Galaxy Nexus uses crappy hardware. Compared to my phone before (HTC Thunderbolt), I will take this phone any day in terms of the hardware, feel and look. It's lighter and I've dropped it a couple of times already and it shows no scratches or dings. I've dropped the TBolt a couple of times and you can see chips on the edges of the glass, my kickstand coating peeled completely and the phone got super hot when on LTE chewing data up (my GNex doesn't get even close to the temps when doing heavy video or data use on 4G). And before anyone rags on the battery door for the GNex, I kinda like it that way. Never have issues with the door (and I swap batteries out a lot). Just my opinion I guess. Everyone has different tastes in what they like, and I am totally okay with everyone having their opinions. :)

I think some people consider plastic to be crappie hardware. The ironic part of that is in many cases, plastic is lighter and far more resilient. The GN also uses a newer radio. So who knows.

Felt the same way with my wifi Xoom. At first I get buyers remorse, not wanting to be a Guinea pig. But it gets better quick, way quicker than any other. Pure Google phones and tablets are the only ones I'll ever buy again. Done having to root and mess with my phone to make it work the way I want. My T-Bolt and Droid2 only worked after I had to mess with them.

I'm due to receive my fourth (4th) Nexus tomorrow. Each one has had disruptive failures or faults. The only common one among them was the random reboots (which I can only assume is a software issue). Generally speaking, the problems I have had are what I believe to be a combination of hardware and software flaws.

So why do I keep trying to get a properly functioning Nexus instead of jumping to a Razor or ReZound? Because I fully enjoy everything ICS presents and I love the look, feel, screen, etc. of the Nexus. Two of my friends bought a Nexus and have not had any problems. I bought one for my son and, so far, he hasn't had any issues. Apparently, I angered the technological karma gods and they are taking revenge on me.

I don't buy the argument that a user should expect bugs in the Nexus because it is a "developer's phone." It is a 3rd generation Galaxy device, a 3rd generation Nexus device and ICS is supposed to be Google's iOS killer. I would have expected the phone to be easy to unlock/unboot/reboot/two boot/re-lock/reload/wash/spin/rinse/fluff/dry and whatever else a developer's phone is supposed to do (no, I am not that tech savvy about all that stuff). But I would have also expected the phone to WORK. The devices I have had so far can't do even the most basic of tasks a standard flip-phone could do reliably.

Nexus apologists abound and I understand why. I totally LOVE the concept of the phone and the OS. But I also deserve to have that combination perform up to the minimum standards of reliable usability. So far, it has been an epic fail in that regard. But I still have hope, because I love the promise of what the Galaxy Nexus/ICS 4.0 offers. When it works correctly, it is electronic crack---you just can't get enough.

I really wish that people who have major issues either constructively reach out for help in solving those issues, or just go and exchange their devices.
You read the threads where those of us having trouble were asking for solutions and reported the problems to VZW to ask for solutions, right? And the threads about many of us being on our 2nd and 3rd GNexi, right? Oh wait, you must not have or you wouldn't have posted that. Yeesh.

Re: I LOVE my Nexus

This is a very useful thread. If you don't think so, move along.

Useful for what? The OP has been given advice that they have not heeded. Its turned into a thread of complaining from the usual suspects.

I don't believe in expecting bugs either. That doesn't mean I can't live with a few nuances, but that would be it. You are braver than I going on your fourth one for a gamble at getting a good one. Actually knowing people that do must help. Maybe if I seen a good one first hand, or knew someone that had a good one I would have tried again. My fingers are crossed for you that you get the best nexus ever made!!!!!

If you don't think this is a useful thread, why are you still posting here? I know the answer, you are just stirring the pot.

For a .0 release of an OS, you should expect bugs. If you don't you're not being remotely realistic.

Not stirring the pot at all. Just sick and tired of seeing posts by you and others that do nothing but complain. Unless you are legitimately trying to get answers or solutions to a problem, there is no reason to post yet another thread to complain.

Yep, just like I said, just stirring the pot. You haven't read anything we have posted and are just spouting off as usual. I don't see you posting anything constructive at all. All I have seen is misinformation and bashing from you. Stop.

.2 release. And about half of the problems I have had so far have been hardware related. This is an even mix of failures in my experience thus far. Bugs is one thing. A totally unusable device for things such as having a phone call is another.

You need to realize that 99% of phone users don't know what "root your phone" and "rom settings" even mean. They see a cool phone, has a new cool interface, it's light, and has some pretty cool features on it. They get the phone and it sucks compared to other 4G phones that are almost 1year old (and 12 months is a LONG time in the smart-phone world). To me, the phone should appeal to the average user - regardless if they are a smart-phone geek/nerd/power-user. If it doesn't perform like it should to the average user, it's a failure. Enough said.

Not even that; for an early adoption of anything expect bugs or hiccups.

Or, if "expect" is too strong of a word, I could rephrase: when a bug presents itself on a device like this, patience, understanding, and contextual realization is necessary.

So I am an early adopter of wireless phone technology? As in, "being able to make or receive--and maintain--a phone call" early adopter? I don't remember that in any of the marketing material from Samsung or Google. I guess I missed that part.

So, hypothetically, because your phone was a failure, and because others have failed, the phone itself--as a whole--should be deemed a failure? (I'm not necessarily saying that you are saying this; but the tone and logic of this thread is spiraling out of control at a level I haven't seen since messing with mind-numbingly dumb logic games).

What about mine? Or, undoubtedly, the thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of units out there with nothing really "wrong." I've never had my mic cut out; my signal has sucked, but it's worked. The camera is junk, but the hardware and software work extremely well together performance wise. The screen, while tinted blue, is sharp with great, deep blacks. The curve is kinda cool. While somewhat thin, it's not so thin that I feel like I can break it. The screen's durability seems fine, if you treat it right. Etc. etc.

Further, a lot of the logic in this thread seems to be disjointed (at best); if you(again, not necessarily you, but anyone) are going to argue against a position, you can't then immediately turn around and come to a conclusion that is exactly what the other side is saying.

On the internet, it seems like one bad thing is unfortunate, two bad things are a coincidence, and three bad things result in the complete damnation and condemnation of whatever that thing is.
