First of all let me say that I never had a smartphone and don't want one, but my wife does, so I need your help to choose one.
I worked more than 30 years with mainframes and PCs and when a new OS is launched, usually the older ones are des-continued:eek: after a short period.
Starting my research I realized that there are phones with 3 older Android versions for sale.
So here my question: what would be the problem of buying let's say the Gingerbread version? Is it just a matter of features or there are other issues?
Will it be MUCH better to buy the Jellybean?

I only would buy an android 4.x device. In my opinion android became much more responsive, beautiful and feature rich with ICS.

That is why we have so many phone forums here so you can benefit from what others think of the phone they own. Of course there is the new HTC One that just came out and the soon to be Galaxy S4 and also the S3 that is already out, These are 3 great phones you might like to read up on and go to those forums and read about them. Good luck in your venture.

Pretty JB Android was a very immature OS. You'll notice a huge jump in functionalities from 2.x to 4.1 and 4.2.
