I personally witnessed an AT&T Rep pushing Samsung in a big way today.

I called customer support and asked nicely since there were several phones released recently. The lady on the line put on me on hold and came back saying their manager okay'd it and three days later got to the One.

My phone is a good One!

I tried to get sprint to up one of my upgrades on a line, 3 days mind you, so I could get a new phone for my dad the same day I upgraded my line. Sprint basically told me to pound sand and if I wanted to get an early upgrade it was going to cost me 50 bucks. I was like, the upgrade date is in 3 days, please????? She wouldn't budge. I called back and got a different customer no-service chick and she told me the same thing. A-holes.

I stopped in a Sprint store yesterday to have them update my husband's S II aka E4GT to JB and of course, they couldn't do it and pointed to a service center a few miles down the road. We didn't have time yesterday so I'll be doing it next week.

However, while I was there checking out the newest and greatest (was impressed with the One, more so than the S4) when the rep stated that 'Samsung killed the Nexus line'. I laughed and said, 'No, you guys just didn't get the N4 because of the LTE and CDMA issue, that it was only released for GSM'. And he said, I kid you not, 'I always get those two mixed up, we' re CDMA right? '

What?! ...I'm msndrstood.

Most reps in my opinion are nothing more than sheep. They just sell what they see and hear. The galaxy name and popularity so they automatically think it's a easy sell. Most reps aren't any more educated on products than us members. They take advantage of the fact that the majority of users are ignorant about features or phones.

My experience was a little different at my AT&T store...

I did my research and checked out the phone on two previous visits and when I went in to finally buy it, the guy I was dealing with wasn't there. So I bought it from another guy. When I was checking out, he asked me if I've had HTC phones before. I said yes and listed all of the HTC phones that I've had and added that I love the HTC displays and that I've never had a problem with HTC phones.

He proceeded to tell me he's a Samsung guy and that he's seen a lot of people return or exchange HTC phones due to problems. So he doesn't even try to sell them. Keep in mind this is as I was checking out with my shiny new HTC One... Needless to say, I was a little annoyed!

I went my Sprint store the week before the S4 launch to purchase my ONE and all the employees were wearing HTC ONE shirts. Then we went back a week later so my wife could compare the ONE and S4. They were still all were there HTC ONE shirts and pushing just as hard for the ONE. So I guess it depends on where you go.

Actually, another customer and I were discussing the pros and cons of the One and the S4 and had a nice little chat about quad cores vs Octo cores and the Nexus line.

I forgot to add, I mentioned the X phone to the rep and he had never heard of it.

When I went to my local Sprint store on launch day they were all wearing HTC One shirts as well. The whole staff was VERY supportive of the One.

Oh my gawd....

To the OP maybe Samsung is paying off store employees like they payoff Internet posters.

I know what you're saying. When I went into the AT&T store Thursday to purchase my new 'One', there were a couple of customers being 'hard sold' a GS4. It gave me great pleasure to pitch the HTC one to them once he walked away. Once I mentioned the usb host functionality of the device (I conveniently neglected to mention that the gs4 has it, as well), I believe it turned one of them. It's pretty amazing that I haven't ran across one single at&t rep who knows that this incredible feature even exists!.

So your little white lie to push one specific phone is OK, but the store rep pushing a different phone is not? Geesh!

It happens all the time. We don't have a problem if they push the phone we like or have. . But when it's the alternatives we take it personally. I've been and still am a webos fan and I've always hated seeing how ATT pushes the iPhone so hard. Still do. They will let you early upgrade if you get an iPhone.

That's just the way it is. Plus if they run sales contests you're gonna get pushed to certain products. Anyone in sales will care more about their paycheck than anything else. Myself included.

Its especially funny when you walk in and ask about a phone you know they have in stock but they dont even know exists.

Basically every time I have spoken with att over the past two months dealing with this phone (which has been more than a few)

I was not impressed by the HTC One. Played a bit with it, noted the screen size and moved on. The S4 did impress me.

I can hear the rep telling the story of some person who couldn't wait 3 days to get a phone, and after being told several times whined and threw a tantrum, a++hole.

I am not surprised. It is very rare I walk into a phone store and the people really know the phones they sell.
All the devices are displayed along the wall for customers to check out and play with. In my local stores the HTC One sits 2 brands down from the Samsungs, with the iPhone 5 in the middle.
In the numerous visits to my local stores, I've yet to see any focused customer interest in the HTC One. Customers clamour around the Samsungs and iPhone displays.
This is definitely a result of HTC's poor marketing efforts. It's still a mystery to the masses and because people don't see tons of media spots and sponsorships ala Apple and Samsung, the public puts no value on the product.

Having worked my way through college in retail, I can tell you that return processing is the least enjoyable task. Once a rep or clerk has to deal with a regular stream of returns or exchanges of a particular item, they stop pushing that item because they know it's probably gonna come back.

That's because the One sells itself to be honest. I just show it to people and they immediately want it.

^this, I was with friends at a restaurant and they had tvs all over the place so I showed them the tv feature and controlled all of the tvs and they wanted the phone just for that reason.
