I personally witnessed an AT&T Rep pushing Samsung in a big way today.

No I didnt stand in line for the iPhone 5, o got it online....
oh and do you Samsung is opening their own stores? will you say the same thing about the Samsung folk that wait outside the stores? Also its not an obsession I've been told from many people IT'S just fun meeting all the new people and have interesting discussions etc.
also they were stereotyping I never stood in line for my iPhone.

Ok, so the ads weren't mocking you. You weren't in a line for most of the day or a number of days camping out waiting to by a mobile phone. You obviously had better things to do with your time than pitch a tent outside of an Apple store. The Samsung ad mocked those who stand in line for hours and sometimes days.

I don't know about At&t but my girl works for Verizon and she says she pushes customers more towards Android Phones than I phones because they make so little money from it because Apple is greedy she makes little commission on iPhones.

So THATS why Verizon reps don't help the customer. it's all about the money.

I can think of a lot of things that people will stand around for extended periods of times when there are more comfortable options. Saying those people aren't stable and need to be mocked is just stupid.

My phone is a good One!
You unwittingly make my point for me. Thanks. If there is a more comfortable option, why on earth would an otherwise sane person pitch a tent for days on end or choose to stand in a line outside for countless hours for a MOBILE PHONE?!? There are many videos on Youtube that capture these long lines. One in particular is in NYC at the Flagship Apple store. The line, snakes around an entire NY city block. There had to be at least a thousand people in that line: Not to sign up to get on an organ transplant list. Not to get government free food because they're destitute and have a family to feed. Not to apply for a job at a factory that's having a mass hire. But TO GET A MOBILE PHONE that would be available online and in stores. A mobile phone. Unstable.
And love em or hate em, Samsung highlighted it and mocked it brilliantly.

But its fun to meet new people! if we had a Google store and the next nexus was coming out AND I had enough time I would totally camp out. also all the people that wait for new consoles and games are unstable to? what if the parent is waiting outside for it because they want to give their children surprise gifts?
And I did feel offended. I was stereotyped as a blind apple fanboy and the S4 add imply only old people use iPhones. that's extremely offensive to me and thus I chose not to do business with Samsung.

On a side note I found your comment on stability offensive considering the fact my brother is unstable mentally and you are just throwing the word unstable out there to describe people that are just having fun.

When i went to get a new sim card for my HTC ONE the rep started a conversation with me, he was asking if i liked the phone (HTC ONE) and all that other stuff, so as im about to leave he asked me if i would be interested in paying the restocking fee for the HTC ONE and getting the S4. I told him im not interested in paying $35 fee for a phone that looks like a S3 and i just left. What do they get for pushing the S4 on to customers, AT&T is probably making them do that

Yes it does :P. (check next post for scteenshot)

So what will you say once the same thing happens with Samsung and there experience shops will you call the Samsung fanboys unstable to or will you give them a pass?

Ok, so why didn't you go to an Apple Store and stand in line at midnight in order to be there when the Apple Store opened at 6am? Hmm? I mean you said it's fun to meet new people and have interesting discussions, right? Sounds like you purposely avoided that and ordered online because you couldn't see yourself waiting 6 hours for a mobile phone. You sound like you're on my side of the isle.
I question the values of anyone who stands in those type lines when they have other more reasonable means or purchasing, whether it be a Samsung mobile device, new sneakers or the latest hot toy fad at christmas time in Walmart.

Yezzir. I sure will. But I don't see that phenomenon happening ever again for any other device. Although stores opened early for the OG HTC EVO, it wasn't necessary. Or last year's Evo LTE. No long lines were found for the Samsung S3 launch and no pitching of tents for the current S4.
Did you ever stand in one of those midnight lines waiting for an iphone?

*Scratching my head* Yet there is no knashing of teeth when HTC offers to pay you for your old device if you'll purchase an HTC One. Is HTC an "asshat?" Sigh

No, despite the poster saying that he was happy with the one the rep still had the nerve to push the S4.

Never stood in line for anything because I don't have time.

Sounds more like a reason just to hang out with people that share your same interests. Since I'm going to be starting my sophomore year as a journalism major and spent hours outside stadiums tailgating with random people, partially for easy grades but also because I love sports to death. Sure I could have stayed home in Georgia and not out in the heat in Miami at a tailgate party but that would've been boring plus I wouldn't have gotten the chance to meet LeBron James in person thanks to a few friends in the right place. It's all about having fun.

Besides I find someone that sounds like a shut in with dozens of cats as company a lot more disturbing than someone camping with "friends" for something they love. The sun and most people won't try to harm you. XD

That's called the customer acquisition cost, and it's not uncommon in any industry, several carriers are offering perks to new customers. But it seems like this cost for businesses is growing over time. It would make for an interesting graph to see different industries cost change over time. It's a gamble by the suits, they are betting that their product or service will be so impressive that you'll stick around for a while and they'll make that money back.

But for a sales rep to do it, when returns are the least fun thing to do in retail, says to me there's some additional incentive for the reps to sell Samsung.

And with reports of Samsung paying people.... disgusting.

I wouldn't wait for a phone in a line but I have for games in the past :). Waited for a few hours in front of the store and got it but no overnight / tents or whatever lol.
