I Think I Love Bixby

I've just gotten an S8 Plus coming over from WP. I was a heavy Cortana user. I'm trying to use Bixby however I cant seem to get her to read incoming texts over bluetooth when driving. Any idea what I'm missing?

I just watched a youtube video on covering your tracks if your significant other looks at your phone. I learned some stuff lol. i.e. if you took pictures with your paramour and you don't want hubby to see them you say "Bixby put last six photos into secure folder". Or if you have incriminating photos from your trip to Rome, you say "Bixby delete Rome photos". I had a good laugh. But it was helpful to know about the secure folder. Bixby works well for me. I just changed the voice to male from female (or rather he changed it).
That is so funny. I turned on Bixby, when I got my phone and thought "Bixby should sound like an English butler!!" I haven't even tried it because it is a women's annoying voice. Can I make it sound like a butler?

I get no sound from my phone when I'm in my car with Bluetooth on, except for calls.

The male voice is rather robotic sounding compared to the female voice.

This is the confusion. It's not a Google replacement. I use both. Bixby inside my phone functions and Google on the web. Heck you can use Bixby to search on Google. I may never use it for things like vision but the other functions are awesome but no, it doesn't replace Google.

On my previous Note 5 before my Note 7 I had a"my places" widget that I loved. when I connected to my car or when I arrived home or at the office I could customize my profiles. The Bixby quick commands takes this to another level. I use Bixby all day. And I love the dedicated button. It makes it that much easier to access. I'm so happy with the Note 8.

I am SO loving Bixby! It has some quirky times, but don't we all? Seriously, when I found out he(mine is a boy) raps, I was done.
I had my roommate ask him did he have pets, and she was blown away that he said he and I shared Byron and Rosie.

UPDATE: In keeping with these fluid times, my Bixby has decided she's a girl.

I kept seeing video reviewers refer to Bixby as "the friend nobody asked for" and I could never understand that. I just got my Note 8 yesterday and here is what I have found so far comparing it side-by-side with Google Assistant/Now. These are some of the random questions I tend to ask these assistants. I occasionally use them to set timers and alarms, but there is no challenge there.

"What is the zip code for Framingham Massachusetts?"
Bixby: [Opens Maps] "Let's check the screen to move on" [Nothing useful displayed]
Google: "Framingham zip codes include: [lists zip codes] among others"

"What does that flag of Norway look like"
Bixby: [Gived detailed Wikipedia description of the flag, NO image]
Google: [Image displayed] [same Wikipedia description]

"What temperature does water boil at?"
Bixby: [Had to click "Ask Q&A"] "Water has a boiling point of 212^F [Displays a cinematic photo of boiling water]
Google: "Water has a boiling point of 212^F" [Same photo displayed]

"Who wrote The Warriors"
Bixby: [Displays photo] "The Warriors was written by Sol Yurick"
Google: The Warriors was written by Sol Yurick [NO photo]

"Dial phone number [###, ###, ####]"
Bixby: [Misunderstood a "two" in the area code as "to"] [Retrained, tried again, the same result.] [Retried 3rd time, dialed number successfully.]
Google: "Dialing..."

It seems to have gotten better as I used it for these random rapid fire questions, but sometimes it would speak the answer, sometimes it would not, even for the same question. It's impressive, but there is still some more polish to be done. If I want to see a country's flag, I don't want to have to visualize it, just pull the photo from Wikipedia. I'm NOT giving up on it yet, as I can see the benefit of Bixby integrating with apps I frequently use.

It's like a new puppy, occasionally it piddles on the floor, but it learns and gets better.

How does one go about retraining Bixby to understand specific words? For example, I recall seeing in another thread that someone was trying to get Bixby to open the Waze app but Bixby was confusing it with Ways. I didn't see the actual method used to to teach Bixby the new word though.

Oh, I absolutely agree! For a first time using it, I'm very impressed. Especially for being able to correct it on the fly and then ask the exact same thing again and see the correct answer. I'm mostly excited for the 3rd party app support, especially for Todoist, and Spotify.
