this is BS. if they didnt put such i piece of sh!t skin on their product i would not want a custom ROM. i do tinker with my incredible and custom ROMs but i always revert to stock SENSE or DESIREZ port, because SENSE is the shiz. Jeez, get a clue Moto. nice attitude for a big corporation. i wanted it bad and had basically talked myself into it. but i am 100% getting TBOLT on one year and wait for HTC dual core.

I think I may do the same thing. I love sense and love open bootloaders. The bionic may have great specs but I'm tired of this locked down crap and until it changes I will vote with my wallet

Coming from the OG Droid, I loved the ease of rooting, I just wanted a more capable phone. I might still get this phone and use Launcher Pro to get rid of some of the PhilBlur stuff.

My only hope is that people will still develop custom roms for the OG Droid if I can't root the Bionic.

That's understandable but I would rather be able to root and play with 2.3+ on the TB than be locked into whatever Motorola pushes on a Phone. My one hope for this phone was that it didn't come with a locked bootloader now I see it will their is no reason to wait for this might as well get the TB and dump Motorola

I've used stock and used the Blur on the X and really don't understand the anger. The "Blur" on the X is not that different from stock.

The DX has a locked bootloader and they managed to find a workaround for it. You have Droid2/X Bootstrapper, Droid Overclock and Z4root that gives it one click rooting. That's good enough support for me and everything is super easy to use. I can't say the same for HTC. Just like the DX I'm sure the Bionic will have the same support. Either way they're both going to be great phones.

you cant say the same for HTC? what in the heck does that even mean? before i waste my keystrokes, please do explain.

WOW! do you not read these threads? easier to root? one click rooting for evo 4g, incredible, desire, wildfire, hero, aria. visit unrevoked.com. i really dont know how it is possible that someone could think the X receives as much developer support as the inc or other HTC phones. ill stop here because i have to tell you i am tired of having the debate of whether or not a locked bootloader is a disadvantage or not. common sense would dictate the answer to that. Its OK we all want to support the products we spend are hard earned money on no matter the faults!

Launcher Pro doesn't get rid of it. It's still there. CyanogenMod has just started releasing nightly builds of Gingerbread for the original Droid. You'll be able to find ROMs for a while still. If you really liked the custom ROMs and kernels for your OG Droid, you will be at least a little disappointed with any locked Moto device.

No. The bootloader is still locked. Bootstrapper does not solve that issue.

this might be a perfect time for the old saying. you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. or polish a turd, etc.

They will find ways around it -- they always do. At this point I don't care about the custom ROMs, but rather just want the ability to have root for tethering, backup, etc.

There is some thrill in hacking an "unhackable" device, no?

Maybe if you're a hardcore hacker. I'm just a recreational phone hacker, aka I like to use ROM Manager to download a different rom and try it out for a couple days. That's why I will keep my OG Droid and play around with that a lot more when I get a new phone (like the Bionic).

Downloading and installing a ROM from ROM manager is not hacking. If you aren't programming or exploiting, you aren't hacking.

There is a new attempt at cracking the bootloader. Using kexec from Linux, over my head, they are working on a way to load custom kernels. Then we can actually get real ROMs.

Honestly, I don't really care about the custom ROMs unless they are a revision or two behind the latest Android OS. I just want root to be able to get tethering and such.

Every last word of that. ^

Best way to make someone desire something is to tell them they can't have it. Doesn't matter if they need or not.
