I Tried an S8+.. I lasted a week

Honestly after using the S8+ for 3 months and switching to the G6. The software experience for myself is a lot smoother on the G6. I'm not saying that it's terrible on the S8+, after being 100% immersed in touch wiz. It is rather noticable. What I like the best about the LG is the high contrast them with the paid version of Nova launcher on it.

On the S8+ if I had a notification in the pull down like Google play updates. if I selected it it would take 10+ seconds to open Google play from there. I could close the notification tab open the play store and navigate to the app updates before it would trigger the selection from the notification bar. That happened with a lot of apps for me. I would get lag constantly on the S8+. I have tap tycoon for the last 505 days and I have played it on every phone I have had in that period(8 to be exact) The only phone it lagged on was the S8+. it is not a graphic or processor intensive game at all.
Wow tapping a notification and waiting at least 10 seconds to perform that task would drive me insane. Goes to show that even with the latest chipset (SD835 vs SD821) doesn't always mean the smoothest and fastest experience

Yep, and I keep saying this... Pixel has the 821

I have the S8 since it came out and have never seen those issues. It's still running smooth without any issues. And certainly it doesn't take more than a second to go to the app from the notification.

You're one of the lucky ones.. Across the interwebs I've been seeing a lot of people talk about lags

Any phone can suffer from lag depending on what the cause is.
Lag from phone UIs has been pretty much eliminated. Apps and too much stuff running in the background can bring any phone to a halt.

Yeah same here. I can honestly say I've never experienced any lag or freezing on my s8, especially like he described. Never had any lag on my G6 either and the experience was very compatible

I don't know what was causing it, probably the latest Sprint update for it. That seems to bey experience with Samsung, eventually you will get an update that kills it. I never experienced the random shutdowns until the update to fix the random shutdowns. Also my fingerprint scanner would just stop responding until I restarted the phone.

It is no way a terrible device, I enjoyed using it a lot. I didn't notice most things until I picked up a new device and went hmm why am I not experiencing these things.

There be a few of us lucky ones then. No lag here and very smooth experience. I found the G6 to be slower and clunky. Maybe I was "unlucky" in that case.

Had to return it. Everything id heard about LG was true with my phone. I appreciate that people like the G6. I'll never buy a phone from them again.

Here in an topic where the OP says he tried an S8 and didn't like it.. It's all opinions, and obviously people have differing opinions on the subject matter. I personally like LGs software better than TouchWiz.. Everyone I know with any note or S phone, even the knew one.. Has put a new launcher on theirs. I know many people with LG and only one person that out a launcher on his, and it's because he's used to the launcher cause he's used it on all his Sammy phones and that the first thing he's conditioned to do.

It's all opinion.

Yeah that's why I went with the Pixel. The boring outer design seems a little more outdated now that Samsung and LG made their screen take the whole front. But it was the best looking one for me. When I was on my S7, I used to put Nova Launcher Premium with a Pixel icon pack and arrange it to look like the Pixel. Might as well have the real thing!

I agree the stock LG software and UI isn't my favorite but TouchWiz isn't much better IMO. With the G6, first thing I installed is Nova launcher with the paid version (which I do with every new Android phone) and it is so much better

Same for me on my S7. I was a vicious TouchWiz critic before but now it has gone a long way with the Samsung Experience. But it always becomes dull and I end up missing having only Google services and find those things that Samsung impose to their users annoying.

I've tried several LG's though and their interface, although I don't like the look of it, seems to remain fast and efficient.

One thing I'm wondering though, how is LG when it comes to updates? Not just securty patches but new versions of Android? I was pretty disapointed when I had to wait 6 months to get Nougat (and 7.0 not 7.1.1) on my S7. That's partly why I didn't get the S8. When Android O drops, I want it. Not half a year later when Android P is announced.

K. I'll just make it super clear and straightforward with no sugar coating. Post if you want to post. Want to troll and call people liars for an opinion? Go to Reddit.

Thanks.

I had a S8+ have tried the G6 and now have the normal S8.

I have a bit of a love/hate thing with the S8. My S8 has been package disabler pro'd to within an inch of it's life, I have done the whole dev options reduce animations thing plus I run Nova prime. I am not seeing any lag but having also tried a OP5 it is still not as fast as that. I HATE the finger print placement, battery is just ok (not as good as the G6 for me). It feels so nice in the hand though, the screen is great and the camera terrific.

Regarding the 821 vs the 835, I did see the difference on the G6, not enough to be the deciding factor but a factor nonetheless the main place I saw lag on the G6 was the app switcher where there was quite a delay. If the UK had the plus version with the wireless charging and quad dac then I may still prefer the G6 though.

I think the S8 will be my last Samsung for a while. If the pixel did not feel so cheap in the hand and had SD I'd probably have one of those happy in the knowledge I'd always be on the latest version of android. To be honest I only really see either the pixel 2 or iPhone 8 in my immediate future.

My problem with G6 is it's LG UX software. It's pretty inferiror to Samsung Experience. I feel like I am using the old TouchWiz when I use G6 with respect to it's UX. The LG SmartWorld app is too slow and the themes are also not good. Of course you can download other launchers to theme but comparing this with Samsung Themes, LG Themes are very bad (so are HTC Themes).

My next problem with G6 is lack of shortcuts, especially camera launch shortcut. Every phone has the standard shortcut - double press the power button - to launch camera at anytime and support one or more features in the FPS. G6 lacks both. AOD too is inferiror to Samsung AOD where you can apply lots of themes and take actions on the icons that take you directly to the app.

I am not being negative but I have the S8, G6, U11, OP5 and Honor, and, G6 is my least favorite.

For a flagship phone, if they had put more effort in the LG UX to be more memorable!

Bro hope u know if u tap volume down button twice it launches the camera and volume up can launch other apps or u can set any other app

Is it me or G6 users are missing this fact - The LG shortcuts only work when the display is off.

That to me is incomplete design. Shortcuts should work even when you are say, using an app and quickly want to launch the camera.

Is it me or is this a bigger deal to you than it is to other LG owners.

I've never been in a real life situation where I need to take a pic in less then 1 second.

If the phones off I double tap down, if it's on I pull down the drop and hit the camera.

The problem is not that. This thread basically has changed to discussing features between G6 and S8. And one of those features is that G6 shortcuts do not work when the display is on. In such threads, why is it hard for G6 users to acknowledge the missing factor?

It may or may not be deal breaker for few, but for me personally, shortcuts are an amazing way to improve your productivity. To launch the camera, now I have to have a shortcut in my home screen or dock. As you said, may be I am not going to use the camera all the time, then having a shortcut or dock reserved for the camera dont make sense either and hence shortcuts help a lot here. G6 lacks in that area. That doesn't mean the phone is bad. It could be the perfect phone for many but those caveats, what G6 can do and cannot do don't go away.

Hey, I actually have to agree with you here. A shortcut should work regardless of the screen being awake or locked

I've acknowledged and moved on because it's simply a non issue for me. It's your implication that LG G6 users as a whole are to think to understand. When the reality of it is, is such a simple fix that it doesn't require debating yet here we are.

So for the sake of it... I agree the feature aka camera shortcut is not as evolved as it should be and could be done better in future devices. With that said it will never effect me or cause me to miss any pics.

If you read this thread, you will clearly see its not me making the noise about this. I voiced my opinion earlier in this thread on the lack of this feature and got quoted multiple times by several others stating the shortcut exists.

So, yea, I have moved on too but not without acknowledging this could be improved.
