I wanna know your opinions about the notch.

Is the notch bad?

It never really bothered me when I played with the demo at BB. I am sort of concerned how it will be when watching videos.

I couldn't care less about it. not getting a 3...and it can be removed so I don't understand the big deal.

Had the XL for a few hours - the notch is there - kinda blends into the scenery after a while - don't expect it will be an issue for me.

Got the phone today and have been playing with it all day. With a dark wallpaper don't even notice the thing and even without the wallpaper I don't mind. And in apps on which it shows up it doesn't draw attention that much, may be I'm used to notch by also using iPhone over the last year

I didn't want it and I don't like it. But after the first full day of use, I already don't even notice it very often. So I suppose all the other goodness outweighs that single "design flaw" (in quotes because, let's be honest, it is a very subjective thing).

The notch is here people, get over the size and enjoy the phone!!

Picked up a Pixel 3 XL on release day from my local Best Buy.

(I'm coming from an S7 Edge with a 5.5" screen btw)

I didn't think the notch would bother me at all and during regular (non video watching) use that's true.

But when watching YouTube or other video content the notch is quite noticeable and VERY distracting.

basically if you want to hide the notch & watch videos the screen size is reduced to roughly 5.5", which defeats the purpose of having a 6.3" screen.

If you're watching your content in the proper, intended aspect ratio (as it was shot) then the notch WILL NOT intrude whatsoever. Don't zoom in, you're just cropping out valuable imagery.

Look at the images more closely - nothing is lost when going full screen but the notch area.

It doesn't show in the image that there are much thicker black bars above & below the video image when it's not full screen.

The aspect ratio or information displayed doesn't change - it just fills the screen more.

Look at the left and right borders... Things are lost (unless it's a changing scene).

That video shouldn't play with bars on the edges by default.

Try the same with a legit 16:9 video still

I really like the XL, but that notch is a definite deal breaker for me. Especially when viewing video's in landscape mode. This is a very poor design choice. You have finally improved you display but this notch business runs a very nice display, Google what were you thinking?
