Confirmed. June-July. Only took HTC 8 freaking months....

Android 4.0 Update Frequently Asked Questions

I know were all anxious to get ICS, but is anyone really surprised? In my mind, this is just how these things work. And in my experiencen HTC and Sprint are much better with updates than other manufacturers and carriers. (Try having a Samsung phone on Verizon if you want to see some BIG delays.)

Don't get me wrong; I don't like that it takes this long, but I accept that it does. I hope this new rumored Nexus approach helps to speed things up by giving all the major manufacturers access to the ASOP source code in advance.

Let's just see if the 3VO will even be able to update to that.

I dont see why not. The Evo 3D has good specs. If im not mistaken it has 1GB Ram, Dual core processor and 512mb Internal memory (if the internal memory matters) I think it should be able to run Jelly Bean.

It'd be great if it could don't get me wrong. You just never know, but at least this isn't like BB where the people behind it intentionally make their own products obsolete less than a year after they release them. (Example: the Torch 9800 and BB OS 6.0-I use that because that was my previous phone...stupid RIM.)

Come to think of it, it comes quite close to the Galaxy Nexus.

Yea RIM does make quality phones but they need to make their line up more diverse (What I mean is they need to make updates to the older phones and they need to spread all the phones to all the carriers). Also I used to have the Blackberry curve 8830 and the Tour 9630 and they lasted me the longest of all my phones I ever had. They also had amazing battery life.

And GTAF I don't know the specs of the Galaxy Nexus but if it is close then it should get Jelly Bean. The only thing is that the Evo 3D will be obsolete by the time Jelly Bean is officially out. :(

Know this, the EVO 3D will never see the next version of Android. Why?

-EOL in under 8 months
-WiMax
-No incentive, People are stupid and upgrade when they have perfectly working phones,

I wouldn't go so far as to say that, my Torch 9800 had 3/4 of its main face buttons stop working less than a year after I got it, and the specs could be considered good back in 2005. The new phones aren't much better. Plus I see barely any difference between BB OS 6.0 and 7.0

The EVO 3D is GETTING ICS! Does not matter if the EOL was less then 8 months it was a very unpopular phone. Sprint confirmed it was getting it.

My Tour lasted me a long time. Yea the specs aren't good compared to modern day phones and I never saw BB OS 6/7 because my tour never got any of them :(.

I'm pretty sure @VickMackey was referring to the Evo 3D never getting JellyBean. JellyBean came up a few post before (2nd half of page 2) and there was a bit of debate about whether the Evo 3D would get it.

As I've said before I'm happy enough with how my 3VO is right now, so I didn't even mind if I couldn't update it to ICS let alone Jellybean.

Sorry I thought he was referring to ICS. Also I dont think I would mind if the Evo 3D didn't get Jelly Bean. My contract is up in august so I will have a new phone before it even comes out. (well to the nexus's because they are usually the first to get the updates)

Jellybean will most likely not come from an ota... Might be able to grab it from a leak way down the line.... And ifs in June?

I don't know what you guys are reading, but forget waiting the ota, there are sense 3.6 ics roms out now for the rooted phones, so why not root and get it now, its gonna be the same thing released when they do release it.... So many people are just so misinformed...

I'll say it once and again. I was a former webOS user from summer 2010 - Late March of this year. I remember back when everyone on Precentral (now webOSNation) was saying that the Palm Pre and Pixi would get webOS 2.0 because Palm and Sprint "confirmed" it would come in late 2010. It never did. They changed their mind and said Q4 2010. Eventually they said Q1 2011. However, back in Feb 2011, Palm stated that we wouldn't get updated to 2.1 b/c of hardware (They were very wrong since my Palm Pre could handle 2.1 just fine). The moral of the story? Just because they "confirm" it doesn't mean it'll happen until it happens.

I loved my Pre but this and the lack of apps is what made me switch to Android and the OG EVO, haven't looked back since then.

I also had the Pre with sprint and I was too a webOS user from when the pre first came out. I loved the OS but it was very buggy and it did not work. WebOS was dying out because it was not working properly for many people so that is probably why sprint and Palm (known now as HP since they own Palm) canceled the update. Android OS is still running strong and they aren't going to cancel an update for a phone that can, by far, exceed the requirements to run the new OS. Also when Google and the major carriers say they are getting the updates for certain phones, have they ever said a phone will get an update and never give it to the particular phone? No, they always push the updates out as they say they do. So I am going to go with Google, HTC, and Sprint because Android OS is not a buggy OS and Google is not going bankrupt. What I may have posted here might bore some of you but the moral that I am getting at with this is that Android OS is much more reliable and better at getting devices the newest OS (that it can run).

I understand what you're saying, and it is a valid point. Nothing is definite until it happens. But the Pre situation is very different then this situation.

Ultimately the updates are the responsibility by the hardware manufacturer. In the case of Sprint, they only do some minimal testing. Palm/HP were struggling to stay afoat. We've occasionally seen Android updates get pull before, but the major android manufactures are all pretty solid, and HTC in particular is really good about updates. If HTC says that an update it coming, then every indication is that it's coming.
