Idiots Guide to Rooting and Custom ROMs, Optimus S Edition

I'm not sure what to do. Let me explain better. I updated to vc using the lg updater, then I rooted my phone, then I did a custom recovery, the problem began when I put thunderrom on my phone because I can't connect to the 3g network only 1x also when I go into settings>apps>sdcard its showing that I don't have anything on the card, but when I hook up to usb everything that I put on my card before I put thunderrom on my phone is showing that it's all still there. I did do the nand restore and backed up everything on titanium, but I cant go to the market because I don't have 3g only 1x. When I tried the un-rooting process the adb shell fired up and the # sign too, but right in the beginning it says the adb is not found. Can you please help me. Thanks so very much!
For your 3g/1x problem have you tried doing menu->settings->about phone->update profile?

If that doesn't work, I do the unroot procedure and restore the stock V8 ROM, making sure to perform steps 26-30.

Then I would perform a ##786# reset from the phone dialer. Only do this reset after you have replaced your Custom Recovery with the stock Recovery image. Zefie's new recovery might be safe, but I'm trying to avoid introducing more variables than necessary.

Yes I tried to update profile and it doesn't work, sometimes it makes the phone power off and on again. Also, I'm unable to unroot because when i type adb push recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-s-1.1.0.img /sdcard/, it says adb not found. The # sign is there too. I'm so freaked out right now, my husband is gonna be so mad at me :(

You are supposed to type "adb push" in the windows command prompt, not in the "adb shell" "#" prompt, which is actually a terminal session running on the phone.

Can't you just plug the phone into your PC when it is booted into android and move some stuff from the phone to your PC? You need to turn off USB debugging. After that the phone will act like a USB drive (after you answer the on-screen prompts)

So what exactly do I do? I'm in the middle of unrooting the phone it's plugged into the computer usd is on and I'm on step 14.

Just choose the option to reboot your phone. It'll go into Android. Turn off USB debugging

menu->settings->applications->development->USB debugging

The phone will then ask if you want to use it as USB drive. Confirm that you want to do that.

Then on your Windows PC, it'll show up as a USB drive.

Just navigate to the USB drive and move stuff over to the PC to make space for the NANDROID backup. Once you've done that, might as well put the NANDROID backup on the USB drive by unziping the archive you download in step 15.

When you are done, unplug the USB cable, power down the phone, then when you power it up press
Power + Vol- + Home

This will boot you into the Recovery partition. At that point, reconnect your USB cable and you can continue with the instructions from step 20.

There is a thread about that here, see if any of the suggestions help:

There is also a thread here:

First thing I would do is verify that you *unzipped* the NANDROID backup to the top level directory of the sdcard. If that is already the case, if it were me, I would try backing up the sdcard to your PC, formatting the sdcard, then putting the nandroid stuff back.

should my phone be in usd debugging when I'm doing this?

When you say top level do you mean the root?

Sorry, in my previous post where I was explaining how to clear up space on the sdcard for the nandroid archive, the first thing I mentioned was turn off USB debugging.

When you were done, I should have told you to turn on USB debugging.

Try doing that first, then boot into the recovery partition and try to do the NANDROID restore.

If that doesn't work, then try to backup the sdcard and reformat it. You'll need USB debugging turned off to read the files off the drive.

Once that is done, you can go to
menu->settings->sd card & phone storage->unmount sd card

Once that is done, you cn choose format sd card from the same menu.

Then you can mount the sd card and it should show up as a drive.

Just unzip the archive of the V8 NANDROID backup to the drive.

Then reboot into recovery and try again.

Sorry I can't really give exact instructions as I don't have an Optimus in front of me, so I'm mostly going by memory.

What does it mean that the sd card should show up as a drive?

ok i'm to the v8 stock I still don't have 3g and it won't let me do anything until I make an sprint ID which I can't because I dont have 3g. I wan't to upgrade to v9 then to vc, but I need to change it to debugging so I can do the commands.

update: Okay I powered my phone off and on and it took me past the sprint Id somehow. So I was able to upgrade to v9 and now i'm going to upgrade to vc. Do I need my usd debugging turned on to do this part?

Yes, turn on USB debugging.

Use the LG Software Updater tool to upgrade to VC.

My phone is finally up and running and I have the 3g now. For some reason all the things that are on my sdcard arent showing up in my phone and I put everything back on it. One bad thing is I backed up everything on titanium and now my phone is not rooted and I don't have access to my apps. I want to thank you for your help, it's been a very stressful day because of this phone lol!

Assuming you used the LG Software Update tool to upgrade to VC, you can root using the instructions in this post:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...-guide-rooting-software-version-ls670zvc.html

Also if you moved files from the sdcard to your PC at some point, you should copy them back (get rid of stuff you don't need to give you some free space to work with just in case you need it)

Hello! I am having a problem getting the adb shell to work. What could I be doing wrong?
