For the record, this is just a random guy's theory and is in no way, shape, or form a 100 percent, bona fide, reliable guarantee that the Droid 4 is getting ICS within two to three weeks of the publishing of this post. That said, I have stumbled onto this theory during the wee hours of July 3, and I wanted to share it and see what happens.
I like to do a system update check every so often, just in case something minor gets pushed. It is a regular habit of mine for any phone I own. The thing is, when I tried several times this past weekend on several wifi networks and in Verizon 4G LTE mode, I find it is in a long continuous "Checking for available update. Please wait..." state that never resolves itself. I will let it go for five to 10 minutes and no change. I don't even get the "Your software is up to date" message. It is constantly checking for an update.
When I put in the original title for this thread, "System update check never resolves," the forum gives you suggestions of similar threads (in an effort to help deter duplicate threads), including this one:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-razr-maxx/179967-system-update-check-not-working.html
That is from the Droid Razr Maxx forum on June 12, 2012, which talks of a Droid Razr Maxx user who had almost the exact same issue as I did, to a T (except on 4G his would resolve, if I am correctly reading his assessment.) As you will see in the ensuing link published on AC on June 30, 2012...
http://www.androidcentral.com/ice-cream-sandwich-now-available-everyone-droid-razrrazr-maxx
... the Droid Razr Maxx received Ice Cream Sandwich at the end of June.
Now, if you recall this AC story from May 2012...
http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-android-40-ice-cream-sandwich-schedule-updated
... that says the Droid 4 rollout of ICS is in the third quarter of 2012. July 1 marked the beginning of the third quarter.
So, my theory is this: if a Droid Razr Maxx user had my system update check issue June 12, and ICS came out for that phone 2 1/2 weeks later, is it safe to infer that because I am having the system update check issue on a Droid 4 now that we will get ICS within the next two to three weeks? Or is it wishful thinking and/or a false inference on my part?
I guess time will give us the answer, but regardless, I'll happily welcome ICS once it is finally pushed to us.
