If my theory is right, Droid 4 will get ICS within 2 to 3 weeks

For the record, this is just a random guy's theory and is in no way, shape, or form a 100 percent, bona fide, reliable guarantee that the Droid 4 is getting ICS within two to three weeks of the publishing of this post. That said, I have stumbled onto this theory during the wee hours of July 3, and I wanted to share it and see what happens.

I like to do a system update check every so often, just in case something minor gets pushed. It is a regular habit of mine for any phone I own. The thing is, when I tried several times this past weekend on several wifi networks and in Verizon 4G LTE mode, I find it is in a long continuous "Checking for available update. Please wait..." state that never resolves itself. I will let it go for five to 10 minutes and no change. I don't even get the "Your software is up to date" message. It is constantly checking for an update.

When I put in the original title for this thread, "System update check never resolves," the forum gives you suggestions of similar threads (in an effort to help deter duplicate threads), including this one:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-razr-maxx/179967-system-update-check-not-working.html

That is from the Droid Razr Maxx forum on June 12, 2012, which talks of a Droid Razr Maxx user who had almost the exact same issue as I did, to a T (except on 4G his would resolve, if I am correctly reading his assessment.) As you will see in the ensuing link published on AC on June 30, 2012...

http://www.androidcentral.com/ice-cream-sandwich-now-available-everyone-droid-razrrazr-maxx

... the Droid Razr Maxx received Ice Cream Sandwich at the end of June.

Now, if you recall this AC story from May 2012...

http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-android-40-ice-cream-sandwich-schedule-updated

... that says the Droid 4 rollout of ICS is in the third quarter of 2012. July 1 marked the beginning of the third quarter.

So, my theory is this: if a Droid Razr Maxx user had my system update check issue June 12, and ICS came out for that phone 2 1/2 weeks later, is it safe to infer that because I am having the system update check issue on a Droid 4 now that we will get ICS within the next two to three weeks? Or is it wishful thinking and/or a false inference on my part?

I guess time will give us the answer, but regardless, I'll happily welcome ICS once it is finally pushed to us.

I don't think its safe to say anything, but I have experienced the same issue only recently and the only cure is the back button (I let it sit there for 15min and it didn't time out at all). I would imagine that the Droid 4 would get ICS soon, as the only substantial difference between the Droid 4 and the Razr twins is the keyboard. It is a well put together theory though. But for some odd reason, I see them waiting until the very end of Q3 (just like they waited until the very end of Q2 for the Razr twins) to push ICS to this phone. With so many phones shipping with ICS now, they're probably punching themselves for creating an update schedule that they know they dont want to stay in-line with

Other similarities:

1. You and the Droid Razr Maxx user both breathe air.
2. Both of you are Android Central readers.
3. You both have Motorola handsets on Verizon.

CONFIRMED! The ICS update for the Droid 4 MUST be coming out in the next 2-3 weeks.

If you couldn't tell by my sarcasm, it's just wishful thinking. I'm sure that it will be out this quarter, but trying to put a date on it without a reliable source is just idle chatter. It will be here when it gets here.

And why exactly don't they want to stay in line with this? It isn't like Motorola wants to hold these phones back to sell something newer. These are the latest and greatest from Moto and really SHOULD have launched with ICS. Instead they launched with a promise for ICS and we're still waiting as well as the folks buying new Droid 4's today.

I`ll still believe it if i see it before August 25th :-\

Well they said third quarter so they have until Sept. 30 to deliver.

I'm sure my prediction will crash and burn as I doubt we even get it before the end of July at this point, but eh, what the heck, ya know? It was fun to speculate. :)

I received the Droid 4 to replace the Samsung Stratosphere that I had, ( terrible issues) i thought it would have a newer version than GB, but thats what I get for assuming. Considering rooting, but don't want to void my warranty with VZW being that i just got the phone 3 weeks ago.
