If RAZR gets ICS, will it beat NEXUS?

I just don't know why they are making a big deal about this phone (Razr). It's got a very unique look to it, but past that it's just an improved Bionic without the ability to remove the battery. If I were Motorola, I'd go back to the drawing board. Every company has their own niche, but Moto only has it's build quality. That only goes so far. Gorilla glass and a kevlar back doesn't sell me the phone, especially when it failed a pocket drop test already.

There's a reason why over the past year, everyone has been talking about the Galaxy S2 and now the Nexus. Samsung is the standard right now for Android,. The Bionic or the Razr aren't going to be anything in the scheme of things.

I think if moto started unlocking their phones like samsung does people would once again really be talking about moto phones how they talk about samsung phones. If you look at some of the negatives it is the locked bootloader and blur. Plus if they unlocked or atleast did not encrypt their bootloaders it would be easier to crack and get custom kernels and what not on them.

Seems like Motorola will do away with Blur and unlock their bootloaders eventually now that Google is calling the shots.

Now if they can just design a phone that's attractive.

RAZR just looks like a dolled up DROID X. Non-removable battery and lower screen resolution were the killers for me....

I love all the "facts" that are really opinions in this thread. Open your eyes people.

Idk about all that. Didn't google say moto would run as their own seperate company and Google would not run it??? I don't think blur and bootloaders will change anytime soon for moto.

I mean vanilla ICS looks like a polished OS to me...I would hate to see OEM's alter it too much with skins because I don't see much of a reason to (maybe with the exception of the home screen icons - those are less than desirable).

Hopefully, they can start to differentiate more by custom widgets, etc., rather than putting on heavy skins.

Or put the skins in the market as downloads that people can download the widgets and that if they want or even the entire skin.

Unless moto begins to implement Exynos chipsets and super amoled screen tech, their devices will never even come close to tempting me. That's not even mentioning their garbage Alcatraz bootloaders.

Meh

Moto has been great updating their devices imo. I have no doubt they will be the first to get a some what bug free update out, followed by HTC that will have to pull the first couple after release due to bugs, then Samsung who will also have to pull.

ICS source has been released for GSM. Does the clock start ticking now? Or once the CDMA source drops? There can't be that much of a difference other than radio.

The Nexus S already has a fully functional ICS ROM as does the Xoom (almost). Two with unlocked bootloaders. Once you taste an unlocked bootloader, and enjoy modding, you will never go back. The Nexus and Xoom will also be the first to recieve an official update because that ota comes from google.

The Rezound and Razr will actually miss versions. You may go from 4.0.1 to 4.1, missing 4.0.2 - 4.0.6. Or may start on 4.1. But either way you'll be missing party.

Doesn't the razr have super amoled? That is one thing, now they just need to use exynos, which I don't see happening anytime soon since omap is the main platform for ics.

moto has as many issues as any OEM. Droid x/x2 gb updates ring a bell? Or even the droid 2? Moto is no better with updates from a bug standpoint. Plus what you say they are missing will just be bug fixes which they will have if they get 4.1 anyway.

Moto has a lot more to worry about than just AMOLED or the Exynos. This screen has Super AMOLED, but it's horrendous. I remember reading the review over at the Verge and I laughed at the 5 they gave the screen, thinking they were just being too hard on it. Having one now myself, I completely agree with the 5. Now if you like Moto, there's a reason to be optimistic as I'm sure Google will definitely help.

Moto is all but done with blur on the razr. There is a skin yes but its not blur like its been.

Moto is moving in the right direction. What they need is minimal skin just to aid in the use of android that some people find a little complicated (I don't). So ease of use and a couple tweaked apps to set them apart....like a better camera app or more option in it, smart actions, just LITTLE things a novice and power user alike will enjoy.

Some of these skins are so thick you can barely tell its android, which on its own is perfectly fine. And my real problem is the skins arent coded very well or something, you can just tell its hurting performance and battery life which take priority for me on any smartphone.

And Verizon forcing bloat on us so they can make an extra dime is the worse. What's wrong with a free app that if you need something like "blockbuster" you can download it. At least give me the option to uninstall that trash....When looking at battery life and there is an app that you didn't use or can you delete that aided in the batteries death its infuriating.

Hmmm that went from on topic to a full blown rant..

That's why I said some what bug free. Moto ota issues don't seem to break major things like wifi and radios like other oems. At least not that I've heard. I'm sure some one has reported major issues, but not to the point Moto has to pull an OTA.

Since the Razr is insignificant, let's get back to talking about a real phone. Droid Life has an article up where they already released a UI patch that puts a search button at the bottom (and you can arrange it in whatever order you want). So for those of you not happy about the lack of a search button, it's already fixed. Man I want this phone.

Yea, but it is subpar stacked next to samsung's screens. Bottom line, blur, locked bootloaders, subpar hardware (next to Samsung, with the exception of the radio of course) and ugly form factor just make me sick toward moto. IMO, they don't even use real android. It makes me sick when people defend their devices. What moto is doing is just anti-android and wrong.

Meh

Thats awesome to see. I want a mod that removes the blackbar as well. Honeybar does it on xoom, no reason it can't be done on ICS! Its great when used with ADW EX for a full screen look and more modding capabilities than stock launcher.

Or a way to set transparency of bottom bar.
