If you're getting the 6P -- Why (or why not)?

Ordered a 64gb aluminum 6p

I'm on the fence between the aluminum and the white. If the aluminum is 'natural' colored, aka not painted, I'd like that. The last phone i had that was metal showed every scratch. It was a black phone so i kept a sharpie nearby.

Going to wait and see what the reviews say.

Best idea yet.

Hard to say what exactly it is going to be like from the just hands on video's, specs on paper, and pictures. The only conclusion you can really come to is that it will have some specific feature you want, the size, the build material, and the looks. Thats about it.

Funny how people are already saying one way or the other how well it is performing without even touching it. Some defending it, while others slam it. I just don't like the looks, even in the pictures and videos. That is of course my opinion, but it is accurate for me.

I even had someone argue with me that this phone has one of the best camera's of smart phones currently out. Ha! Who can say that at this point?

It amazes me how people can buy a phone without watching a single real review of it. Wait until it gets put side by side against other phones before committing. The 6P looks like a winner, but know one and I mean know one knows until we see some real world reviews and comparisons.

I get your point but as someone who pre ordered here's my take.

1. Like many people here I'm coming from a nexus so I've got some trust in google and I feel like I know what I'm getting into.

2. A lot of the key make or break components of the phone aren't new. You can look at other phones to see the 810 in action and the display is pretty much the note 5's (very close if not the exact same).

3. The average person doesn't even know this phone exists, we here are enthusiasts and many are early adopters at heart.

4. Who wants to wait? Pulling a Cartman and freezing myself for a month seems like a more viable option :)

Also, I think every single initial hands on impression I've seen has been extremely positive.

I ordered the 6p frost 64gb to replace my iPhone 6+ 64gb....

1) Almost exactly same size so easy choice over something like last year's Nexus 6
2) High quality camera... Still have to wait and see if the actual post-processing lives up to the hype
3) 2k display looks nice... but hopefully not so oversaturated that it's painful to view over LCD.
4) HUGE battery... let's hope it goes as easy as my 6+ does for all day use.
5) Fingerprint reader... This was a big deal for me coming from the 6+. There's no way to quantify how much easier it makes using the phone even in apps that allow it for authentication.
6) Dual stereo front speakers... iPhone is god awful for sound.

pretty easy decision when choosing between 5x and 6p 32GB, $70 more gets you into a 6p...would you really spend it on more storage vs bigger screen, processor, speakers, bigger battery and aluminum body?? Google made it way too easy to go 6p.

Except for those who find the size cumbersome for their daily routine. I'm 80% sure I'm going for the 6p over the 5x at this point but this decision comes after days of determining whether or not such a big phone will fit with the activities and routines I follow. It really sucks to have to try to choose between premium and practicality.

On paper (specs), it's in the top echelon - probably one of the best 3 (or 4 or 5) devices available (almost available). Will live for 3 or 4 years most likely so it's got staying power. No skins. No carrier hooks. Can switch carriers whenever you want. All good IMHO.

I totally get that, but at $429 for 32GB, couldn't you do better??

Well that depends too. Stock android and quicker updates are relatively high on my list of desires. OEM's don't like to rush updates out the door for older phones. Nexus Phones get updates for years (and usually relatively quick, especially compared to other OEMs). I'm very much so the type that likes to have the latest and the greatest when it comes to Android, so that makes sense. Plus there's always the custom ROM root and that seems to be inherently easier with Nexus phones.

Hardware wise, yes I probably could do better considering the fantastic 5 - 5.2 inch android phones out there to choose from. But other than the Nexus 6 these are the first Nexus phones since the Galaxy Nexus (which I had) that are Verizon ready and happen to be coming out right about the time I'm ready for an upgrade. My choice for a Nexus has already been settled.

The 5X shouldn't be a slouch. I'm rocking an 808 processor now just fine.

Just because it's cheaper than the 6P and is plastic doesn't mean it's a bad phone. Just look at it for what it is vs. keying in on the differences between it and the 6P.

For me the most disappointing spec of the 5X is the single front facing speaker, hopefully it's still a good loud speaker though.

For me it is the top, I don't see any other phone (even the more expensive ones) that have anything I would rather have.

I completely agree. Google checked off just about everything on my wish list this year, and I was truly prepared to pay $100 more. The fact that it's a Nexus is already making people take it seriously, and now that Google and Huawei have taken hardware seriously, it's pretty much my perfect phone.

Oh no, please don't take what I was saying as the 5x is a slouch because its inferior. Not at all what I meant :) i just meant that overall its not tue premium phone the 6p is, and it really isnt. Theres no denying itll be a fantastic phone, but i as a tech geek want the best of the best, and in this case it is by far the 6p.

the single front facing speaker is a huge determining factor to me too. The M8 is seriously spoiling me in the media department. I dont know of I can go back to a single speaker after owning this phone.

But in other news, I got a chance to hold and pocket an iPhone 6plus today with a case on it. I didnt have any issues holding or pocketing it so that makes me feel better about a 6p purchase.

6P all the way. Before the launch, it was the 5x all the way but I was really disappointed with the 5x. The style and the 32GB limit on storage turned me right off. I've plumped for the 64GB 6P aluminium. It's my first nexus having been dreadfully let down with the Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm just a tad excited :-).

Re: Who's getting the 6p?

Cancelled my order since it does not support slimport/MHL (chrome-cast no good to me outside the house as mirroring does not work)

Same for me. I didn't pay any attention to the 6p rumors, I was only looking at the 5x (mostly for the size). Once the phones were announced, I was disappointed in the 5x so I've pretty much only been looking at the 6p. I'm waiting for reviews and still deciding on a color.
