I'm SOOOO glad I got the Razr

You really think that the ICS on the GN is untouched by Verizon?
Does Verizon even claim that this is a 'pure' Google OS?
NO...because it isn't! That's what open source means...phone manufacturers adapt it to their needs. Verizon has their hands all over the ICS in the GN whether it shows or not.

Actually Verizon claims it is "free of OEM customizations"

I highly highly doubt ics will get to any phone within 6 weeks. Google even said that it will take a month to get ics to the sprint 4g version of the nexus S. In general, I think that a realistic expectation is about 3 - 4 months of lag time with motorola or htc, and 6 - 7 WEEKS of wait time with samsung although they may have gotten their act together after the galaxy s update debacle, so who knows.

No I think it will not be 6 weeks but I am comfortable telling people the top phones on Moto will get it Q1. Same for Samsung since they have had the code for a while longer, and are probably feeling pressure to get their phones updated. Did you see even the Fascinate got Gingerbread the other day? That blew me away. I agree that HTC will be later but I don't think it will take as long as you think. Do you remember two years ago what the first three phones (after Nexus One) to get Froyo were? EVO 4G (HTC), Moto Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, all within a 2-3 week span of each-other starting 6-7 weeks after the code was dropped into AOSP.

I think its pretty ridiculous when you basically have to go 25 - 30% of your phone's contract with an old OS. Also you have to realize that software is only part of the picture. Even if blur was very similar to stock android, there are still considerations that need to be made in regards to compatibility with the processor, camera, touch screen resolution and updating all of the verizon bloatware. Have fun waiting on Verizon Navigator and MOTOACTV to be updated for ICS.

Do the Bionic, Rezound, RZR, Thunderbolt, Charge, Starosphere, etc suddenly stop working just because they don't have the newest OS? I own or have access to all of these and they didn't suddenly stop working or work poorly just because the Galaxy Nexus came out on the 15th.

The only TANGIBLE reason to be that concerned about older OS's is security fix, and of memory serves all of these have 2.3.4 or later which incorporates all of the major security fixes to date.

People are so wrapped up in wanting to think their phone is better than another, that's its almost like a placebo effect and they will believe what they want to believe.

+1 people are letting their emotions overrun their logic and common sense. We see this with every major release but it has been really bad with the Bionic, RAZR, Rezound, and Nexus all launching so close to each-other.

"For anyone looking to exchange their Razr for the GN, spend a lot of time with it if you do. IMO, it just isn't worth it."

Man.... Was it that bad? Maybe they had a defective unit on display.

I completely agree. Went into check it out as well. Picked it up off the dock and there went the battery cover. Felt too light to me. My phone has to have some weight... feel solid. Completely turn off by the battery cover and the cheap feel to it. Really had no intention of buying it unless it blew me away. Will be happily sticking with my iPhone :)

Wow! I wanted to play with the GNex myself. I would have thought to here better reviews so far about this phone seeing its a flagship google phone. Aside from the obvious hardware flaws, what about the OS, (ICS)?

After seeing all the leaked ICS builds so far on the SGS2 and Xperia devices, I'm glad I got a GN. Seems like they have all butchered ICS to the point it is unrecognizable.

Tell me about the software. I'm not interested in details of the hardware.
How does it perform?
Does it have any lag when web browsing, or lag at all?
How's the battery life?
Is it fluid and polished?
What's makes this OS different in performance as a suppose to gingerbread?
What was obvious enhancement you noticed right off?

These are examples of things I want to know, be detailed as much as possible please.

Saddness...I bought the GN yesterday and I'm returning it today. Honestly, I didn't like ICS...It felt like a different OS. Almost like a poor attemp at an...yuk...iPhone. I switched back to my GB Droid X, feels like home! I really wanted to like the GN.

That's too bad. But keep in mind that ICS is totally different from all other version of android OS and will probably be how it will continue to evolve in the future. Plus most of the phone released in 2011 will get ICS some where down the line in 2012 anyway. You'll face it eventually.

All of you are CRAZY...the GN makes that razr so dull and to top it off they played you all because as of today its obsolete thanks to the Razr Maxx...hahahaha

You make a good point. This is one of the things I did not like about android phones. That's why if I had to chose, it would probably have to be the flagship phone. I'm more interested in the software away, because the hardware changes to fast. At least the GNex will be among the first for updates.

Someone in this thread said that the only thing the gnex has going for it is the screen. Not true. The only thing the razr has going for it is build quality and expandable storage. The gnex has ics, better screen, quicker updates, no bloatware, a faster growing dev community, and a removable battery.

I totally agree with this statement, from a software standpoint.

Sorry for the rant. :) I really like my razr, but I am glad that I'm exchanging it for the gnex. It is the only phone that I feel that I will be completely happy with for the next 18 - 24 months of my verizon contract.

I agree here as well, I don't want have worry about upgrading ever year. And having software support is very important, which is why if I chose android again it would have to be with it's flagship phone.

No, they are all that way. Don't get me wrong the device is nice but the radio sucks (will likely get better with new firmware) , and yes the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. It's a nice device bit at least hardware wise no where near lives up to the hype.

How is that? The GS2 doesn't have ICS? Although the specs are better on the GS2.

The specs are better than the base GS2 but the same as the GS2: Skyrocket, the revised version.

Also the GS2 has about the same build quality (same flimsy battery door) but a lot nicer camera and screen.

You do know that the Nexus has the same amount of storage as the RAZR, right? In fact, I could be wrong, but I believe the total space on my Nexus is larger than my RAZR. Also, the process to transfer files is much faster on the Nexus. Unless you are swapping out micro SDs (at which point it means you are traveling so much and so far you should just buy a tablet or a better laptop) there is really on minor differences in storage.

Yes, but having a hot swappable SD card slot is important to many people, and more importantly to me, it also means you're able to expand your storage even more by using a 64GB micro SDXC card. Yes they exist and yes they are compatible with Android devices as long as you reformat the card to FAT32.

No SD card slot was the deal breaker for me with the Nexus. I'm a media whore, music is a huge part of my life, I have a vast collection. Cloud storage is unreliable in the sense that it requires a signal, rendering it useless in poor reception areas, not to mention it's also a huge battery drain in comparison to media stored internally.

Both of these phones are great devices and you really cannot go wrong with either of them. To flat out call one inferior to the other is extremely subjective and short sighted. We need to understand that different people may value certain features higher than other people might. For example, some cannot live without a removable battery while others without an SD card slot. Seriously people, please stop the hate.

I don't know why it is so hard to be happy with your phone and not crap on others at the same time.

I obviously liked the nexus better but they are both great phones. No need for affirmation by bashing someone else's choice.

You have appoint on the hate thing. But flagship phones will always have the advantage when it comes to software patches, updates, and new OSs. The other guys maybe great phones, but it takes to long for the manufactures keep the current OS running on the phone up to date. This is a huge problem especially for people who do not care for rooting and installing customizable ROMs on their phones.

VZW and Google have been going back and forth with this. Obviously the ui is completely free but there are a couple non-uninstallable apps(did that make sense?). But also, google is kind of claiming that verizon had something to do with google wallet not being available by default or in the market for the device and verizon is saying they had nothing to do with it. I just hope that when the next version of android comes around verizon doesn't hold it up.

I own or have access to all of these and they didn't suddenly stop working or work poorly just because the Galaxy Nexus came out on the 15th.
You have a point, but I just didn't like when apps required gingerbread or froyo back in the day and I couldn't use them because I was waiting on an update.

Yep, I'm buying the gnex not just for what it is right now, but for what it will be in about 12 - 18 months when new phones and OS's are coming out. We are all going to be stuck with the hardware, but I at least want some new firmware being released.

No, they are all that way. Don't get me wrong the device is nice but the radio sucks (will likely get better with new firmware) , and yes the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. It's a nice device bit at least hardware wise no where near lives up to the hype.
This is the one thing I am worried about with the gnex, but for some reason I think people are over blowing up the antenna issues trying to make it seem like the gnex has some type of huge flaw. I've heard people also say they get great reception or better reception than the razr with their gnex. I am getting around -80 to -85 dBm right now with my razr so I'll make sure I look at this when I get my gnex. I'll also check what type of reception I get at work and compare that too.

I have both Razr and the GN both, and as much as I like the GN, I will most likely be returning it. I just can not deal with the poor reception that I'm getting from it. My GN is constantly showing to be without a signal 40-50% of the time when I check under the battery use screen.

My Razr never had a signal issue at the same place. I'm not in 4G area and while 3G has been fine on my Razr for use with Slingplayer, because of the poor reception and can't even use it on the GN.
