I'm Ted, a newbie android member with a couple questions.

Yes I got my money back from the pawn store where I bought the store. I just knew the display didn't seem to be very good quality so I'm glad I had the Samsung team at Best Buy take a look at it. I did order a Motorola G6 Plus. It has a 5.9" screen, Face ID, Oreo, and I love the Motorola layout. It should arrive any day. I also have my eyes on an ASUS phone that I might get as well. I'm used to being with Apple phones. They are all the same and I could never afford to upgrade. Now I have tons of models to choose from and I want them all lol! I need to learn Android a little better but for the most part I really like it. Also, from what Ive read, the Chinese phones do not support LTE in the USA.

Remember to give us an update on the new phone!
Pictures are welcome too.

Update on my new phone. The seller didn't disclose that this was the "international" version. The charger adapter will not work with a US outlet. Motorola supports using the SD card as internal storage on all G6 models EXCEPT the G6 Plus so that is a real bummer, and to put the icing on the cake, it only supports LTE in Europe and Brazil. So, as much as I like the basics of the phone, I don't like the SD card setup and I'm not happy with the lack of LTE. I got a good deal on it but I'm still thinking of returning it.

Well guys, after much research, I finally picked out a cell phone. I went with the One Plus 6. It is the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage version. $629 for those specs. It has faster charging than the Galaxy and Pixel 2XL, and it has a headphone jack and a AMOLED display 6.3". Face ID. Already confirmed on their site that it will get Android P on day 1 of launch! Almost completely stock Android. Hopefully it'll last for a long time.

Well done. Let us know how it goes.

That's awesome! What a great choice! Congratulations!

Yesterday I bought a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus for a good deal at a pawn store. I honestly am not impressed with it because the display doesn't look as good as the Moto G5 plus and despite having the same Android 7.0, I can't figure out how to navigate through it. I hate it.

Out of the box, the S8 Plus comes with the display setting to Full HD, and NOT the better Quad HD. This is done to give you better battery life, HOWEVER if you want the best screen quality you can change this setting. I BELIEVE the setting is located under Settings, then Display. Change it from Full HD to Quad HD.

DAMN I should have read the whole thread! lol Anyways this is the same phone I use currently, AND recently I used the LG V30, Samsung Note 8 AND Samsung S8. Still I stick with the OP6!

You'll have to read the whole thread. The Galaxy S8+ that I bought from a pawn store had a terrible washed out display. Before the return period expired, I took it to Best Buy and had a Samsung employee take a look at it. Best Buy employees immediately told me that I had a counterfeit fake Galaxy S8+ which is why the display was terrible. I returned it to the pawn store. I'm sure, though illegal, they sold it to some other fool.

Sorry for the late response everyone. I ended up HATING the One Plus 6. I spent extra money for the 8GB Ram and 256Gb storage. The battery doesn't last. After an update the display sucked. The camera was hit or miss and got worse after an update. Audio was horrible. I couldn't stand it. I also don't play video games and don't really need those specs so I got a Huawei Mate 20 Lite for $250. I wasn't expecting much out of it but it put the One Plus 6 to shame in every department that was noticeable to me. Now with this "trade war" I might not get updates anymore so again I am searching for another new phone.

Pixel 3a? Somewhat inexpensive, Ui is pretty minimal, and Google gives pretty fast updates with their phones.

My $250 Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a 6.3" display and it is a beautiful display, in my opinion. If I were to get a Pixel, it would have to be the 3aXL which is $479 compared to $250. The phone is made of plastic. It looks and feels so cheap. It reminds me of a 10 year old outdated phone that is a prepaid phone. Thick bezels, plastic material, ugly appearance. Also, the display on the 3a and 3aXL are just awful. Now, the single lens camera is great. But for $479 I expect more than just a good camera. It is sad in America that $479 is considered a cheap plastic phone. $479 should get you the king of phones. I was an iPhone user, and I still am a MacBook Pro user. But I didn't feel that my last iPhone lasted long enough to justify the cost and I don't approve of Apple's iOS updates. For example, iOS did an update that made the iPhone not work with my car's factory stereo or steering wheel controls. Then iPhone fixed the issue with a small version update of the update. But then 6 months later, iOS took away my car compatibility permanently. Of course me and most everyone else with my car's stereo, bought an iPod Nano without iOS. I went back to Android and I love Android, but there are so many cool phones and budget phones that aren't compatible in America. In America, people buy a Galaxy, iPhone, or Pixel. All three are overpriced and these companies all know that. I have owned all three. I couldn't stand the software and layout of the Galaxy. I hated the iPhone iOS updates, and the Pixel was just too plain to be worth the price. Now that I've found that I can get a phone that not only does the job that I need it to do for $250, but it is attractive and the quality feels great. The camera does a good job and it offers a good Android experience. In my opinion, Android updates aren't a big deal, which is mainly good. I don't seem much difference between Oreo and Pie for example. I'm quite happy with my Huawei but with all these stories all over the internet, I can't figure out what is true and what is not true. I don't even think the people that are saying everything actually knows what is true and what is not. What I do know is that my son's Huawei Mate SE has a May security update and my new Huawei Mate 20 Lite does not have any security updates. My phone was unboxed and setup three weeks ago and it says that it's security patch is February. Huawei is saying that my phone WILL receive Android Q, yet I still don't have Android Pie. I've done a "live chat" with Huawei and they said my phone will get Android Pie "at any moment". Other sources have said that Huawei soon will lose all updates from Google. Some articles say that Huawei wants to work to make a deal with Google but even Huawei sites are mentioning that they are going to start using their own OS. I don't want a phone without Android. So, that is my issue. I've thought about getting another Chinese brand phone like Xiaomi but the same thing could happen to them next. And I paid $629 for a fully spec'd One Plus 6 and it ended up being a terrible phone. Their updates literally crippled it. Now they have TONS of reviewers and you can just tell they are being paid to talk up their phones. If you read forum threads from One Plus users on One Plus's site, you will see that once people buy them, they start to hate them. I bought my One Plus 6 fully spec'd not because I am a heavy user, but because I wanted it to last. It was terrible. And One Plus could be targeted in the "trade war" as well. So I'm not sure what to do right now.

Woah! Long post lol.

OnePlus and Xiaomi shouldn’t be affected by a trade war because it doesn’t do communications and isn’t politically controversial...I doubt any US Government could make up a reason to harm it.

Just because a phone maker is Chinese doesn’t mean it’s bad. Xiaomi do great phones!

I enjoy my oneplus 6. Nice phone for what you get. Camera can be better. But otherwise a solid phone. Battery seems fine.

Sorry my post was long. I type for a living and therefore type really fast. I did return my Huawei phone but it kept coming back to me in the mail. "Insufficient postage". The seller made it impossible to return. Then the seller at the same time told Ebay that I didn't return it in the allowed time. Ebay denied the return until I called and proved to them that the seller blocked the return multiple times. Long story short I got a full refund and also got to keep the Huawei Mate 20 Lite for free.

Therefore, I can't really complain about the phone. Also, it just did finally get the Android Pie update and also an EMUI update. The phone has been great hardware wise. Battery lasts insanely long especially compared to my old One Plus 6. Camera is better as well. Actually everything seems better than the OP6, for less than half price.

The only issue I am having is that the phone has "Huawei ID" on it. I tried to setup an account but at the end of setup it says that it won't work in the USA. But, for every Google update, like Google Photos, it forces me to sign into Huawei ID before I can do any updates and it's impossible to sign into Huawei ID. I found a website that will remove Huawei ID after I buy "coins" from their website but they won't tell me how many coins I need. Seems shady. That is my only frustration with my free phone. I'll run it until it blows up since it was free.
