Incredibly Happy I bought the V10 over the G5

Hello all,

I have owned the G3, G4, and now own the V10. I can say, after seeing what the G5 is and seeing one in person I am so happy that I got the V10 a little later in it's release than waiting for the G5. They bang for my buck just seems a better deal with the V10 in almost every way: Battery capacity, better design, bigger screen, second screen (subjective), and those back buttons!

I hope that the V10 sequel has nothing to do with the design from the G5. LG needs to keep honing their design language from the V10.

Cheers!

I don't blame you. I was very disappointed with what LG decided to do with the G5. I hope they don't try to do that to the V line.

Using the G5 for a bit, I prefer the rear button setup a lot more. Reason why is that it's relatively ambidextrous and a slight big one: cases. With most silicon and tpu cases that don't have dedicated buttons (like ones you find on a Spigen Neo Hybrid), the volume cutouts are constantly pressed and sag out over time, deteriorating the case's protection and letting dust into the phone. With LG phones since the G2 and beyond until the G5, cases for those phones only need an opening for the buttons, thus giving you the original button feel and less likelihood to depress the button further into the phone's chassis.

I'm content with mine. I am not happy about having to spend $600+ just to get a phone with an SD card slot, removable battery, wifi hotspot host on a reliable carrier. That really doesn't seem like a lot to ask for.

Thirded.

I am excited for a refinement of the V10 design. The G5 is not that compelling to me. I loved the G4. I would support LG going after a beast mode camera/phone that's thicker with better optics and supporting hardware, to rival a mirrorless cam but with android phone and the high quality DAC.

I've had a lot of new phones this past year and the v10 is the best overall phone I have had.

One thing that they should consider is making the current design waterproof. It wouldn't take that much to make it happen.

To me they really screwed up on the G5. They caved in to the pundits of "premium design looks" and ruined one of the better alternatives to the glass and metal designs. I loved how my g4 looked and felt with it's high-end leather back.

Yes to making the best high-end camera and music player along with improving on the screen technology in it...

Please LG... Put the money into putting the best into the phone and to hell with the glass and metal crowd.. Your v10 is a beast of a phone and should stay that way..

When I upgraded to the V10 last year I almost waiting until the G5 came out to compare them. Then LG offered the 200gb SD card and extra battery/cradle so I went ahead and just bought it. I'm so glad I did after seeing what they turned the G5 into. Reminds me off the old Atari cartridge based game system. Horrible idea. I hope it dies at the G5 and doesn't bleed over into the V line.

The biggest things that need improvement on the V10 in my opinion are a bigger capacity battery, larger rear camera sensor to match the new flagships, and switch to AMOLED displays that are calibrated to be a little more color accurate thank Samsung displays.

On the software side I would like to see LG make the theming more on par with Samsung and HTC.

Absolutely non of these changes on the G5 unfortunately.

Let's hope not !!! The V line of phones needs to be slamming to make up the mess LG did with the G5...of course this is just my opinion as I have seen many on these threads praise the G5

One interesting thing that could be improved on the V10 camera.... Last night, I was at a concert and the background had lights like a night sky effect behind the singers. The V10 absolutely could not get the focus right to get the performers clear. It blurred every single time. I had my Note 5 with me as well, and the Note handled the focusing far, far better. I'm not saying this is a very common use case, but clearly there is a software fail for that scenario in the V10 camera software.

It seems like Samsung really has set the bar as far as focusing really. I would also like to see a little higher quality lens being used too.

I had a similar issue at a concert. Luckily I don't take too many concert videos however, but even my iPhone 5s seemed to have handled this type of lighting a little better at earlier concerts.

I remember when I was buying my V10 (which took a few att store visits as it was out of stock) employees kept asking me why I want waiting for the G5, and telling me I should. From the get go the G5 didn't appeal to me (even just rumors in January when I got my v10) and the G4 was under powered compared to the v10 IMO. The design of the G5 alone looks and feels very cheap to me (especially that gold). All in all I'm glad I didn't wait and instead got the Note series to LGs S series.

I love my new V10! I hope LG continues with the "V" series. All they have to to with the next one is incremental improvements.

The problem with buttons on the back is you have to use it to appreciate it! People that have never back buttons have a strong negative opinion. I remember one guy saying it was absolutely unfathomable why buttons would ever be on the back of a phone!

Camera, DAC, screen size, solid, thin body...the V10 is a winner! I can't imagine a better phone for my needs. I even like the second screen.
You gotta give LG credit for thinking outside of the box with the G5, but the V10 is the winner.

I like the 2nd screen too. I hope the V11 is about refinement and not radical redesign.

Got the V10 Wednesday and took it on a family vacation this past weekend. Coming from the LG G4, I really like this phone way more! Fast, vibrant, love the 2nd screen, fast charge is of course amazing, camera, feeling in your hand, etc. It's a winner! Wonder if it starts to slow down and/or choke after a while?

I've had my V10 since launch day on Verizon. I still absolutely love it. Battery life could be better, but with quick charge and having two batteries it's not really an issue at all. I also think the screen is a little too cold (blue) but otherwise awesome. I had a couple month old HTC One M9 that I replaced with the V10 simply because of the better audio capabilities, the better camera, and the replaceable battery. Everything else about it is just an added bonus. The Marshmallow update improved the phone considerably for me as well. For me, there is no better phone out there.
