Got notification of an update moments ago. I let it go and it had a progress bar that went through, then it rebooted. Don't see any difference. Build is same . Note was and still am running infused so may have messed with it or something....

after update:
FIrmware Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: I997UCKE3
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Infused v1.6.0

Think that's all the same though don't recall the Kernel version from memory.

Hmm, that would be nice. Although I thought that by using a custom ROM the auto update feature would not even attempt to go through. I no longer have the 'Software Update' option in Settings and that went away when I flashed Infused.

I was planning to wait for the GB update and then see what the devs at XDA can do with it. I think it will work better than what AT&T offers anyway.

Well I'm running infused 1.6, the last non-gingerbread version, so that might be why as I'm still based off the same version to begin with.

I've given up expecting gingerbread for my infuse. However it will take same size or bigger screen with a higher resolution for me to switch. Infuse will never get ICS so looks like ATT Nexus or Galaxy Note will be replacing my Infuse soon. Will is still be running froyo when I switch? lololol

I was envious of a co-worker who got the SG2 recently. Then skyrocket was announced... Whatever. I'm sure there will be some latest and greatest when its time to upgrade again. It would be insane to try and keep up with the latest and greatest. It would steer me more towards some kind of nexus though to alleviate that somewhat...

I agree. We will always be outdated shortly after getting a new device with the latest and greatest. I could never afford to upgrade so often. :D Instead I will keep my Infuse, which works great, until I am eligible for another upgrade. At that time something cool will be available so I am not worried.

When will the phone companies come up with one-year contracts? That would help us get these new toys. I'm sure the companies could subsidize the phone costs and still make a buck.

The flip side is when will they support a smaller hardware set so they can push out updates easier and to phones longer? There's no good reason that a phone should be obsolete after a year. You should at least be able to get 3 years with updates.....IMHO.

The economics are all wrong. If the carrier tried to enable you to stay on old hardware, it would be reflected in their usage profile with slower phones, older network speeds etc making them appear less desirable than their competition.

Why should out be up to the carrier go to decide when to push an upgrade? Suppose you got the upgrade by going to a Samsung website and paying $15. I'll bet the updates would be available more quickly.

any carrier wants you to break contract and pay more for phones then to wait and get a new one with upgrade price. they want you to give them more money, so they're going to design their contracts to do so.
