Initial Impressions of the HTC 10

Not being sold on ATT, coming couple of months after S7, G5 in stores, priced at 699 in US don't bode well for good sales.

That could well be the case. We won't know what HTC's strategy is or just how many HTC 10's they need to sell to turn a profit.
I know that a lot of people jumped on the SGS7 BOGO, as did I. My rationale behind that decision was if I don't like the SGS7e I can sell them both, and with the money I get back from T-Mobile I will actually be up $$$ and that will fund my HTC 10 :) Plus, along with the two SGS7e's I also got two VR units that are worth $100 new. That kind of promotion had lots of people running for the Samsung phones.

Right now we have no idea what kind of promotions are going to flow through the carriers, we'll have to wait and see.

Personally, I am happy enough with the $100 discount and Uh Oh protection.

My only decision is going to be whether or not the HTC 10 will be equal to the SGS7e. I really wasn't expecting to like the SGS7e this much, but I do. It's a great phone with very nice build quality and Samsung pay is also a great feature.

Time will tell if HTC manage to flog enough units to make a profit, but one thing is very clear in my opinion. They are back in the game with what appears to be a great phone :)

I think expecting a huge sales win.... well, that most likely won't happen. But I will say that this phone could go a long way in rebuilding HTC's name. It wasn't that long ago that they were big man on campus with Android. And when the M7 made the rounds, it was widely regarded as one of, if not THE best Android phone available. HTC has a lot of ground to cover now. And a releasing a device whose reviews all start with "This could be a great device, BUT...."

And it looks like they pulled that part off at least. If this phone is a sign that they figured their stuff and got back on the rails, the rest should fall into place soon enough.

For those of you preordering, you do know there is a special preorder code right? Knocks $100 off the price.

I'm not sure whether to go with black or silver...Even though I like black I believe the silver stands out more to anyone that sees it. Options options...

I've had every HTC phone starting with the Evo 4G up to the M9. The M8 was great disappointed in the M9 especially the camera. I still love HTC and hope this phone is great well I know it will be just not sure of the camera until people actually get it and I read reviews. But for now me and my husband went with our 1st Samaung and got the S7 Edge which we love. Camera is amazing compared to the M9 and selfies in the dark places are great with the way the screen turns bright white kind of like illuminating a flash. But I still read about the M10 and think it's also going to be a great phone. Hope everyone likes it. I love HTC and Sense. I miss the double tap to turn on my phone with the Samsung but I can wave my hand up top and it turns on. LOL! I also have the Nexus 9 which I love. When is the M10 going to hit the stores? I'm sure I'll go check it out.

Dude just get an unlocked version and plug your sim in. I would import one from the US if I were you.

Dude I appreciate your suggestion but you do realize that it even if it's cheaper it doesn't automatically mean I can afford it. The US price at $699 is still way too much for me to swallow. I have a thing called a budget.

I also think this phone deserves better sales than last a few iteration of HTC M series. Hardware seems solid on paper at least. I think they seriously needs to re-vamp marketing efforts or strategy. The way it's going now doesn't look very promising.

From someone who has an S7 and a fiance who has the M8, I can tell you that in terms of build quality, both feel very solid and are quite a match for each other. My last Samsung was a S3 which felt like junk. The S7 is a complete different beast. I can tell you haven't seen the S7 personally or else you would never have written the above. My fiance is putting the 10 on a short leash. If it doesn't meet her expectations she is jumping to the S7, that's how much she likes it.

If it still has that high gloss fingerprint magnet finish then I'll pass.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Nope they did away with duplicate apps so it's like a stock Android but I will not be using Googleither photos for my own reasons and will find a alternative.

Don't forget if you order from HTC you get the "uh oh" protection which basically will give you a new phone if you break it and it even covers water damage. That's pretty awesome.

That would be great if it was available in Canada but the last time I checked when I bought my m9 it was only available for the USA. It didn't deter me from getting the m9 but since I'm going to probally land up buying this phone outright I'd love the added protection.I might add though my phone's usually reside in a Otterbox or other rugged cases and it'd be nice to have this.

You're not forced to use any syncing features on Google Photos
They still have access even if you don't backup to their cloud once u use the app they can access your pictures and do what they want with them.I will be using a different approach for my gallery and can, Era once I get my phone.

What are you talking about? People know about HTC. Their VR headset beat out Oculus in sales. HTC isn't trying to prop itself up with just phone sales anymore. The company actually has money. Have you guys been hiding under a rock since HTC is selling virtual reality headsets now?
We're talking about the average phone consumer.

Techies like us and the folks who can justify spending a lot of cash on a Vive (and also likely has a custom gaming PC) all know about HTC.

What about those who just walk into a store, pick whatever the rep recommends or what is popular, then leaves? There are the people HTC needs to sell the 10 to.

And uh, I'm not sure if you've heard, but HTC’s revenue for Q1 2016 took a 64% tumble compared to Q1 2015. They still have cash. Just not a lot of it.

That's why we're hoping the 10 sells well.

I find HTC 10 to be a nice phone but I will most likely go for a Samsung when my contract ends:
(Please note that I reside in Asia)
1. As I found out with my LG G3, getting a less popular phone = hard to get good accessories like branded glass protector & bumper cases
2. I really can't return to smaller than 5.5inch screen (Then again, one of my main usage is media consumption)
3. The after-sales support is really out of way for HTC compared to Apple or Samsung
4. The "flaws" of Samsung like app drawer placement and colour scheme can be fixed. (I really love Samsung for its auto brightness, one-handed usage mode, excellent simple to use camera, stunning AMOLED display)

Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp etc. You are really that concerned with what Google does with your pictures? That horse left the barn a looong time ago.

Not all of us use that crap. I honestly dont as I am just not that interested in that stuff but I am aware how it works and what it offers for people not of my own thinking. Say I live under a rock; whatever. I want a localized app that has zero connections to the internet to store my stuff. If the phone blows up and I don't back it up well, that just Darwin on me then. I am so tired of everything having to be in the cloud or readily available via the WWW in some form or another. While I develop my software to operate in the web, I dont want my personal stuff out there for obvious reasons.

One thing that is really starting to alarm me is some of the camera shots I've been seeing.... Indoor shots with bright lights, or bright light coming through the windows, etc... there is a significant amount of lens flaring going on. Now, if the windows or lights are overexposed, whatever... that sort of thing is just a matter of taking a second to check your exposure point, or if its a software issue, HTC can push out an update. But those lens flares lead me to suspect there is a quality problem with the optics.... whether that's a quality control issue with the initial batch of cameras or a sign that HTC cheaped out a bit with the lens vendors... I don't know. But that's something that can't really be fixed with a software patch.

Let me make it simpler for you then. The moment you have pictures on device connected to the internet there is an opportunity for something nefarious to occur. If you want to be 100% safe don't expose your picture to an internet connection.

Can you provide a link directly to one of these pics? I have seen a few with blown highlights but to be honest, they are shooting indoors in a darkish room, more than likely pointing at a dark area so exposing for that and with a window with bright light coming in. Yes, there will be blown highlights. That happens even on a top range DSLR. Only way around that is bracketing which you are obviously not going to get on a mobile phone.
