Initial Impressions of the HTC 10

Love the look of the phone and also like the attempt to reduce redundant apps. If I wasn't in love with the 6p I would be all over it.

Why is that? It's a phone that is no doubt competitive to the S7, don't see why they should have to price it lower than the S7.

To echo D13H4RD2L1V3, it comes down to brand recognition for me. I don't think the HTC brand carries enough weight to be nearly the same price as the S7 (or the iPhone 6S).

Just my opinion.

They can price it however they want. They're taking the risk, not me.

I think the issue is brand recognition and marketing. The phone itself is very competitive with the S7, but it needs marketing in order to show consumers just how competitive it is and how it justifies the price.

Personally (I've said this in the comments), I think maybe the MSRP could be a touch lower. Maybe $649. Not a huge difference when you look at it, but can make a bit of a difference at times for sales.

This isn't a case of me not being able to afford the 10 at its full-price (I'm going to splurge quite a bit on the upcoming Galaxy Note 6), but given that the 10 costs as much as the GS7 and is likely sold in the same shelf, it would be interesting to see how it fares.

I can already see 2 advantages for the 10. The availability of a GSM-unlocked unit direct from HTC and the $100 off promo code for former HTC customers.

(I live by 3 words. fastboot flashing unlock)

That promo was not just for former customers its for new as well if you follow them on social media they sent it that way just like the other manufacturers everyone uses Social Media now for coupons, contest, and what not. It is how they gauge interest in the product. But it is available to everyone they even have it posted on pocketnow's website so if anyone is interested in saving get your pre order on. Also what would have been nice making the gold and red one available everywhere vs regional.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Looks great, but I am going for a bigger screen with my next phone. Likely the note6

Arrrgh! Just bought an S7 new unopened on EBay for $550, thinking the HTC 10 would underperform. Now I wished I'd waited. Maybe I can wait until the S7 is delivered tomorrow, turn around and sell it on Swappa and get the HTC. Decisions....

However, there are things I do not really like:
  • I do not understand why HTC is not offering a silver version with black front. Why only in the US?
  • Availability from mid May.. I had hoped for immediate availabilty.

This....

I don't understand why they can't release all colors and all memory configurations at once in all locations. Why only silver with black in US and silver with white in the rest of the world? Why can't the US get the gold version?

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Sure the s7 and htc 10 have similar specs, and the s7 is water/dust proof. Why not get that? You can get it right now instead of waiting for the HTC 10 to ship. But for me, HTC just feels special, the sense feels so personal when you tweak it to your liking. It just feels right. I'll admit I was tempted at preording the s7 with the virtual reality headset, that's an amazing deal. But I just dont think I can switch from HTC, the build quality catches my eye, audio quality is great, performance is the smoothest imo, and my M8 battery lasts all day. So I'm pumped to get my htc 10, preordered it without hesitation.

I will wait to see how it works, but the 10 has a feature that could replace the aumeo I ordered from indiegogo (and should get in a few days). I'll still keep the aumeo, but I'd likely have not bought it if I'd known the 10 would work.

Want this phone.... but I already have the S7 edge. If next week's reviews say that the display is nearly as good as the s7 (I want rich colors + brightness) and the battery life is equally as good as the S7 or better I'll jump. Unlocked bootloader out the gate also gives the 10 a huge +.

What's the deal with not being able to select Gold version of the phone upon pre-ordering? Nowhere have I read that HTC simply decided to omit the golden version for the US. What gives?

Re: Best Review Yet

Nice, but I'm waiting for a real subjective review. These are great for showing the features and look of the phone though.

I'll also be switching as long as battery life is on par (with my Exynos S7) and the camera is noticeably better than the S7 in all aspects.

I'm incredibly excited for the HTC 10 but I'm not sure either of those things are likely. Battery? Sure, I can actually see the battery being great. HTC optimizes Android like nobody else (including Google) on their devices. Camera makes me nervous though :\

What do you guys think about the placement of the navigation buttons? They are lower than you typically see.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

I put my finger on the s7'd home button, and my finger came close to touching the bottom edge of the screen. so lower placement on the HTC10 means less accidental screen touches. It does look a little weird, but I don't mind it. On screen buttons got annoying because they are always there on some games and videos and I always accidentally back out of my apps.
