Initial Impressions of the HTC 10

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Also I talked with chat support. Right now you can't select a 64gb version on pre-order. By default its 32gb.

Re: SOLD

Waiting for the Note 6, since I need a bigger battery.

But the HTC 10 is pretty damn good so far. It's the phone HTC needs and frankly, one that HTC fans deserve.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

I've heard that some regions get a Snapdragon 652 and 3GB of RAM instead of a Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM.

It's the same with the LG G5 in Latin America.

No more htc gallery? I think it is using Google photos by default

Google Photos is what I use now and it's amazing. So I'm happy about this if true.

Yeah I wish we would get something with the pre order, but it is what it is. I'll be preordering it anyways

Don't forget if you order from HTC you get the "uh oh" protection which basically will give you a new phone if you break it and it even covers water damage. That's pretty awesome.

As long as I am not required to backup or port of any of my phone taken pictures are out in webspace; thats ok. However I don't suspect thats the case. Google always want stuff "out there".

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

HTC has really cut costs by getting rid of BlinkFeed and HTC Gallery. They probably don't have the ability to support those apps/features anymore. Hence they are getting rid of their homegrown apps for more of a Google experience. HTC said they worked with Google very closely on this phone. There won't be any bloat on this HTC phone. Only one calculator app...only one photo gallery app...etc.
I think one positive side effect is that updates are going to be pretty quick on this phone.

Since HTC doesn't have to do much to optimize the OS for their skin, since it's basically stock Android with a different coat of paint that makes it look and feel like HTC Sense.

You're not forced to use any syncing features on Google Photos

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

What's up with not being able to order the 64gb version, I wonder?

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Seem like a great overall package. I agree with all the positives mentioned above. I particularly like:
- non glossy/shiny back (can use it naked!)
- hi-res audio
- camera should be good
- the cut-down software seems like a great choice
- 3000 mAh battery
- USB Type-C/3.1 Gen 1 (not Gen 2 but should be much faster than USB 2)
- fingerprint sensor can lock individual apps
- dual-sim version (with MicroSD in dedicated separate slot?)

Some concerns:
- a bit too tall for a 5.2" phone and I prefer on-screen buttons but at least you get capacitive buttons in the large chin
- the capacitive buttons seem a bit too low, not sure if my thumb will be able to reach the pull-down menu at the top and the buttons at the bottom without shifting the phone
- 2K display, hope it doesn't drastically reduce battery life in usage for little benefit but they say up to 2 days usage...
- no IR blaster or FM Radio is a minor disappointment

Definitely looking forward to getting hands-on though. Just need to know a few things:
- when will it be available to buy?
- how much?
- dual-sim is 4G+3G or 4G+2G?

Re: SOLD

I'm sold on it. Will buy it as soon as it's available in Australia.

Shame we don't get the black front/silver back version that the US get, but it's fine. The carbon black one looks great as well.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

I am glad they kept the basic design of the one series and have apparently fixed their Achilles Heel , the camera. Love how they continue to be industry leaders in smartphone audio. I am waiting for more in depth reviews when the embargo is over battery life is one that interest me the most . 48hrs with a QHD screen and 3000 mah battery ?

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

It's nice to see HTC get it right. I had the HTC Droid DNA which I was fairly happy with but other than that HTC phones never reached out and grabbed me. My last few upgrades were the G3 and S7 edge. The G5 didn't do anything to entice me so it's nice to see another oem step up with a phone that makes you say "damn that's nice" . Hopefully it turns out as good as the early reviews are looking. If they step up their game this much I may give HTC another shot next year when I upgrade again.

Re: The HTC 10 is official - Initial impressions

Im going to wait for some reviews and see it in person before I decide, doesn't look like anything special but we'll see
