Initial Thoughts on Evo 3D - Post Them Here!

Did anyone notice how phone prints now from emails as well as web browser?
I tried using HTCsense.com my phone shows that it's in sync but htcsense.com page is blank, all it shows is lock and erase buttons, I dont see any data there.

First off, I'm absolutely in love with my Evo 3D. Its so fast, it makes my head spin...and I'm coming from an Evo 4G. That said...a couple of things annoy me:

1. Good on Sprint for allowing us to remove their bloatware. BUT, I still can't remove any HTC bloatware like the Green Hornet, Footsteps, Mirror, etc.

2. Flashlight app is missing...I downloaded the apk elsewhere, works fine.

3. I thought I'd like the spinning carousel of homescreens, turns out I don't. It adds zero value and I often end up spinning when I intend to swipe to the adjacent screen.

4. I miss my kickstand and I don't like that the charger plugs into the side rather than the bottom, but what can you do...

5. I like that there's a hardware camera button, but I constantly feel the cheap, plasticy wiggle of the toggle switch whenever I hold/unlock the phone:( I'd also like to be able to access the camera while locked by simply pressing the hardware button.

All things considered, I am still enormously happy with the device and feel sorry for those who don't have one;)
I downloaded HTC official flashlight.apk from XDA and that doesnt work..Where did you download yours? Could share the link please?

Love the phone. Still trying to get used to the new OS. Anyone know if there is a way to close apps without having to "Kill" them in the task manager?

Welcome to Android. Dont even worry about killing apps. There is no need to, the apps dont take up RAM or power when your not actually on them at the moment.( Unless its things syncing like FB)

Just got my Evo 3D yesterday, switched over from my two year old Palm Pre, and all I can say is I freakin love this phone. Theres nothing else I can add that others already have stated about the phone regarding pros/cons, but this phone is too awesome. Simple as that.

I came from the 4g to this phone and it IS a UPGRADE! This phone is smokin fast and everything about it makes me glad I got it! I love this phone! The people that think it is only marginally better or worse have issues! You are either being paid for your negative reviews or dont know what you are talking about

Interestingly enough, the OP asked about "Initial Thoughts" Forgive me for not feeling gaga over this phone like you do. Just because YOU think its the next best thing doesn't mean all of us do. I could easily say you are being paid for your positive review or don't know what you're talking about but I didn't. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion.

And please for one moment don't let my post count fool you.

Bought the Evo 3D and gave it to the misses & decided to keep my CM7 Evo 4G. I just didn't see any good reason to "trade up" (if you can even call it that). Quite frankly, in my opinion, 3D on the Evo 3D just straight out sucks; the phone doesn't seem any faster than my Evo 4G. My 2 cents.

Sorry, but there is simply not enough money in the world to pay all of us, this freaking phone rocks. Hands down the best available everywhere - period! From build quality, screen, speed, design, OS, intangibles like 3D (which is far more amazing than the most optimistic reviewer admitted), and the list go on and on. I love my EVO4G but as I spend more time, got mine on 6/22, the gap is starting to become more and more apparent. You damned right its an upgrade...and a considerable one too...

Haters are gonna hate, this phone is wicked

Here is my 2 cents.
I had high hopes for this EVO.
I think after the last update for the EVO 4G, things got a bit buggy on that phone. I couldnt wait for the 3D model.
As soon as the guy at Best Buy handed it to me, I was a bit disappointed.
I didnt know they were making the screen resolution make the text and the keyboard smaller. It feels like I am holding a HTC Incredible. I have Fred Flintstone fingers, I love the EVO 4G because the size of the keyboard etc.
Now I am hitting the wrong keys.
Other things that bother me are they took away the arrow keys on the keyboard (the ones where you move the cursor).
No flashlight app (WHY?).
The calculator numbers look goofy. At least give us the option to make them look normal. And they still didnt give us a % key on the calculator (no, turning it sideways doesnt have it either).
I am not crazy about the side charger.
On the plus size, I love the reworked HTC Sence. Nice job. There are so many cool features theres too many to list. I love the builtin task killer too!
3D, I could take it or leave it.
For me, I would like to see HTC update the EVO 4G with this version of sence. Then I would be happy.
This new EVO reminds me of the day I got my iPhone 4. I had every version before that, but the 4 was a let down. Thats when I went to Android.
I did check out the EVO View and love that. I wish that could make calls.

I too feel the pain of the screen being a bit smaller, the phone feels a lot better though - so its a more than reasonable trade-off for me. A lot of the stuff you mentioned can be fixed with a quick app download such as the calculator and flashlight. The screen size however can not be fixed. Here is the flashlight link to the bottom..it is all the way to the bottom of the hyper-linked thread.

The phone is great, nice upgrade from the first EVO. The 3D is a little gimicky in that no easy way to share with people without 3D phone, however checkout 3dporch.com and sign up for free account, that seems to be a compromise solution for now.

Listening to Phil rave about this phone got me wondering how much better it was then my new Sensation. Went down to my local Sprint store and started fooling around with it, very nice, the home page widget does spin much faster then on the Sensation. Then I started downloading web pages and found out very fast that my new Sensation blew away the Evo 3D, my web pages were downloading twice as fast. The speaker sounded better on the Sensation and as far as the build quality was concerned, well plastic vs unibody, no comparison, the Sensation was far superior. I walked out of Sprint realizing the Sensation IMO was a better device. The 1 gb or ram kept me wondering, I noticed that the extra ram that the Evo 3D had was eaten up by the 3D bloatware that the Evo 3D needed to operate. The Sensation kicked ass. Funny how the listening audience is swayde by one single voice, a voice that carries allot of weight in many people's eyes. Take the Evo out for a ride, check it out, then make your choice. I did and I am very happy I did. After all that I think I will be jumping on the all data plan before Verizon goes the way of AT&T. Ordered the Thunderbolt and hoping for the Gingerbread update on the 30th. I will miss my T-Mobile and the super fast HSPA+ I get. The more I read the more I feel the buy out is going thru and want to get grandfathered on Verizon data plan. :'( :'(

Wow, i know everyone is subjected to their opinion, but lets be for real the 3d is faster than the og evo by far. My old evo (i gave it to my niece) is sitting right next to me and i know for sure that speed wise, the 3d runs circle around the 4g. Perfect example, you know when your 4g install an app, it freezed for like a second while it finish installing it, there is no hiccup at all with the 3d, not one. I will also go out to say its even faster to install an app. A cm7 custom rom dont help that. My 4g was running kings sense 2.1-3.0 gingerbread rom from xda site.
Also, i was just going to mention the 3d aspect of it. I finally got to play with that part of it this weekend. Im talking about the camera, it kicks butt for real. Its very cool how in depth the pics are. even my wife loves the detail of the 3d pics. Will I take all pics in 3d from now on? No, but for shots i know thats not important, or basically as a cool camera with a cool feature, its available.

I cam from the Palm Pre, and I tryed the OG Evo 4G am in love with Evo`s phone. The Evo 3D it`s fast
smooth, Sprint and Htc did good job to it, as software and the hardware, even the camera it`s amazing and way better than the 8 Megapixel, the better life it`s better than the EVO 4G, I let the better drained out, than I did charged it over night and stayed without charging it again almost all day yesterday long, I did made calls and checked my e-mails and text, it`s fantastic and amazing phone, if I want to judge the Evo 3D by the reviews I did watched on the internet i won`t touch it at all... If anyone want this phone you must try it, not just read the reviews.
Am sorry guys am not the best writter, it`s the first time I post thread.:)

Cool phone, but I can't get the green hornet on mine. The best part of the phone its quick and I can delete the bloatware!!!!

I just got this phone for my bf on Friday and he loves it so far! No complaints at all from him. He came from the original Droid on Verizon which he had crappy battery, slow/unresponsive at times, etc. He's really loving the phone.
