Initial Thoughts on Evo 3D - Post Them Here!

I love my Evo 3D. This thing is fast and snappy as hell. The web browsing is top notch. I just love the dual core speed as it snaps through web pages. The battery life is good enough to make it theough the day with heavy use on the web and messaging. I am pleases for now but the verdict is still out. BTW I am typing this on the kyocera Echo that I got for my daughter. I really like this thing. I bashed it when I hears of it but it is really nice. I wouldn't use it dor my main phone but its great for messaging and web browsing. It could be a little faster though.

Day 2 of ownership.

I finally put the phone down long enough to charge it and install all the updates. I searched through the "gripe" section and found that I was experiencing most of the problems that were listed but most of them have stopped. (Like the swype issue....it fixed itself and works perfectly now) Considering I had a launch iPhone 3GS and a launch iPhone 4, the EVO 3D is MUCH smoother. The problems I encountered were nothing major. Everything so far has reintegrated pretty seamlessly. I expect things not to work because I know the developers have to catch up to the new hardware but I think it's a rock solid, incredibly fast machine.

I installed Tango and tried it out. What we found is that if you switch the camera to the back 3D camera and the switch is in 3D, the other person will see two images and they will be slightly washed out in blue. Moving the switch to 2D does not remove the second image. To remove the second image, switch to 2D and then turn your camera off and then on, they will then see the appropriate image.

I was a bit afraid of the 3D tech. I have astigmatism and I'm 40+. I usually wear contact lenses but have been wearing my glasses lately. Honestly, 3D usually hurts my eyes. I avoid 3D movies like the plague. The glasses add a focal plane and I wind up with bad headaches pretty quickly. This was a different story though. My eyes adjust pretty fast to the images and I have no perceived eye strain. I can watch Green Hornet and not feel taxed at all. I was amazed. Not gimicky but actually functional. Color me impressed.

I LOVE the textured back. I know that's a silly thing to be happy about but I think it gives the phone a much more solid purchase in my hand. It feels more exotic......if that makes any sense. I DON'T like how hard it is to remove the back cover to get the battery out. It scares me but I realize I'm not going to have to remove it often or anything. It's a silly gripe but a gripe nonetheless.

The phone feels lighter than my EVO 4G. Not a big thing but I was impressed that it wasn't a lot heavier.

Speed? Yes. This phone has it. It's unbelievable.

So far, my only "valid" gripe is the lack of a macro. I DO like the extra functionality of the camera but really miss macro. I can live without it, it just would have been a nice thing.

I'm still learning all the ins and outs but I'm very impressed with the phone so far. I think when the apps and developers catch up and tweak things to match the hardware and capabilities, this phone will last a long time.

I love the phone. My only problem is with the keyboards. They seem much smaller on the 3d than on the eve 4g.
Makes it much harder to type. ,along much more mistakes and taking much longer to type.
Very frustrating.
Plus my swyp seems all screwed up in that it is not picking up what I. Am typing. Iwas a very fast swyper on the evo.
Anyone having similar problems?
Any solutions?

Thanks to the one who put the Netflixs apk file for distribution. It works great.
I watched Iron Man 2 and the pic quality was amazing and no buffeting !!!

Any help with the keyboard would be appreciated!

I too had the same initial complaint. However, if you rotate on its side, the keyboard is a pretty good size. That's what I do, anyway.

I was #1 to pre-order the Evo 3D @ Best Buy. Picked it up on Friday and have been playing w/ it off and on. Been busy travelling w/ the family. So far, I am absolutely in love with the phone. My wife said that if I could marry it, I probably would. I love everything about this phone that everyone else loves, so I don't really need to go over the pros.

3D may be a gimmick, but it's really pretty neat. It does add depth to whatever it is you're watching or viewing. I was able to get one picture of mine to actually jump out at me.

The three main complaints I hear from a lot of people on this thread:

1. Keyboard size- I tip it over and put it on landscape mode. In that mode, the keyboard is plenty big enough.

2. 3D Camera lens protruding- if you buy a case, which I can't imagine why you wouldn't (you should want to protect your baby), the lens is nice and flush and actually sits within the case. No worries about scratching it when you're laying it on a flat surface.

3. Lack of a kickstand- I purchased a case at Best Buy which included a kickstand. The case took care of the 3d camera lens and lack of kickstand issue.

Oh, "and one more thing..." I didn't have any problems downloading The Green Hornet.

Honestly, People won't realize what they missed out on. The Evo 3d as of today is the best android device on the market. The biggest feature that matters most is exactly where the evo 3d hurts most smartphones that's the battery. In real world testing how we all use our devices is what determines exactly what kind of battery life you will recieve so based on that it will always depend on the user him/herself. But if your a current evo 4g user then you know exactly how to tweak and extend your overall battery life and if you know those things and apply some of the techniques then trust me you will go VERY FAR WITH THE EVO 3D. I brought my evo 3d on friday from bestbuy the battery was at half when purchased I allowed the battery to drain down to 3% then placed it on charge for the first time for 9.5 hrs from 8pm to 5:30am saturday morning. My evo 3d was still going strong at 7pm saturday night without any tweaking of the devices at 7pm I was at 27% at which time I used the power saver mode and was able to go another 2hrs till 9pm which at that time I was at 17% I turned my device off and started my second phase of charging. The point here is pretty clear the Evo 3d straight out of the box without any tweaking of the settings gave me 14hrs of battery life till 7pm then an extra 2hrs till 9pm which was a grandtotal of 16plus hrs and was still at 17% when I turned it off. Bottomline here THIS IS DEFINATELY NO EVO 4G THIS DEVICE BLOWS THE EVO 4G OUT OF THE WATER IN THE MOST IMPORTANT CATAGORY AND THAT IS BATTERY LIFE. I was never able to go anywhere when I had my evo 4g without my 2batteries and charger now I dont have to carry my charger WHICH IS VERY BIG...As a Evo 3d owner If I tweaked my setting on my device even further ie..weather animations to some, screen brightness to halfway, email syncing to 4hrs, then this device will go FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Htc SCORES A MAJOR HOMERUN just based on the native battery management application/power saver mode as well as the native task manager application these native services on the device helps evo owners in so many ways because these are applications that would have been download from the android market that the manufracturer has included in the device which means it is optimized to work FAR BETTER THAN ANY APPLICATION DOWNLOADED TO YOUR DEVICE FROM THE ANDROID MARKET. That will help any EVO 3D OWNER WHO HAS THIS DEVICE plus with the opportunity to uninstall any carrier related applications that you might not want on your device that was installed which wasn't to many will not only gain more memory for your device which speeds up the device in general but being able to do this also allows you to place actual application you want on your device instead of having application that you don't use taking up space and cpu on your device that is truly big what sprint has done no other carrier is rolling like this. Another big point on this device is that every application can be sent to your micro sd card using the NATIVE APPLICATION where in setting you go to sdcard/phone and you will see a catagory that say make more space and there you will find a native apps to sd application WHICH IS ANOTHER APPLICATION ANDROID USERS WOULD'VE DOWNLOADED FROM THE ANDROID MARKET THAT IS OPTIMIZED FOR OUR DEVICE no need for apps2sd card now. And I'm not even going to discuss the speed, fluidity of the device, as well as the fast that this thing just BLOWS AWAY ANY DEVICE ON THE MARKET..Yeah if people didn't pick up one of these they just are lost....

Add me to the list of delighted EVO 3D owners. Wondering what surprised folks. For me

Biggest surprise: the improved battery life. Didn't see that coming (expecting the opposite) Made giving up my 4G easier....

Favorite part of Sense 3.0 -- there's a lot of good stuff (as well as flash and sparkle) but my favorite is the "teardrop slider" for editing text. This is probably the one change that is going to save me a lot of time and effort (big clumsy fingers).

Biggest gripe: I realize that it was an engineering necessity, but the power plug on the side of the phone is awkward. That, and no kickstand ;)

Thing that will affect all future phone owners: Sprint and HTC have made the first step to getting rid of bloatware (not perfect but a good first step) and that's going to put pressure on others to do the same.

I expected to be pleased; I didn't expect to be delighted with just about everything.

Could others comment as to the effect a screen protector has on image (3D and otherwise)? An earlier post stated that it killed the overall screen image and the 3D effect. It would seem ridiculous that one could not protect the screen on these things without that effect.

i have the Otterbox case with the built in screen protector and everything works great for me

Why do you need a screen protector? It has Gorilla Glass.

I apologize. I was doing three things at once. Meant to type "Tango". Yeah......Tango is spelled VERY similar to skype. I r a bonehead.

Reading all of these great things about this phone, is making it really hard to wait for UPS tomorrow. Can't wait to get it in my hands...

Again, as stated many times before gorilla glass is stratch resistant,, not stratch proof. Sprint reps are training stores on the fact that it can scratch and that spot on the screen thathas the scratch is no longer 3D capable. Not worth the risk.
