Day 2 of ownership.
I finally put the phone down long enough to charge it and install all the updates. I searched through the "gripe" section and found that I was experiencing most of the problems that were listed but most of them have stopped. (Like the swype issue....it fixed itself and works perfectly now) Considering I had a launch iPhone 3GS and a launch iPhone 4, the EVO 3D is MUCH smoother. The problems I encountered were nothing major. Everything so far has reintegrated pretty seamlessly. I expect things not to work because I know the developers have to catch up to the new hardware but I think it's a rock solid, incredibly fast machine.
I installed Skype and tried it out. What we found is that if you switch the camera to the back 3D camera and the switch is in 3D, the other person will see two images and they will be slightly washed out in blue. Moving the switch to 2D does not remove the second image. To remove the second image, switch to 2D and then turn your camera off and then on, they will then see the appropriate image.
I was a bit afraid of the 3D tech. I have astigmatism and I'm 40+. I usually wear contact lenses but have been wearing my glasses lately. Honestly, 3D usually hurts my eyes. I avoid 3D movies like the plague. The glasses add a focal plane and I wind up with bad headaches pretty quickly. This was a different story though. My eyes adjust pretty fast to the images and I have no perceived eye strain. I can watch Green Hornet and not feel taxed at all. I was amazed. Not gimicky but actually functional. Color me impressed.
I LOVE the textured back. I know that's a silly thing to be happy about but I think it gives the phone a much more solid purchase in my hand. It feels more exotic......if that makes any sense. I DON'T like how hard it is to remove the back cover to get the battery out. It scares me but I realize I'm not going to have to remove it often or anything. It's a silly gripe but a gripe nonetheless.
The phone feels lighter than my EVO 4G. Not a big thing but I was impressed that it wasn't a lot heavier.
Speed? Yes. This phone has it. It's unbelievable.
So far, my only "valid" gripe is the lack of a macro. I DO like the extra functionality of the camera but really miss macro. I can live without it, it just would have been a nice thing.
I'm still learning all the ins and outs but I'm very impressed with the phone so far. I think when the apps and developers catch up and tweak things to match the hardware and capabilities, this phone will last a long time.
