Inside screen protector and UbreakIfix

I tried contacting both Samsung and Verizon. Verizon says the crack in the crease is physical damage so is out of warranty. Samsung was just as "helpful ". Been directed to ubreakifix stuff. None near me. ***** at Samsung said take it to an address in New York. I love in Georgia! Moron. I don't know what to do. Any honest help and advice is appreciated

So my Fold³ factory fitted screen protector has failed up the centre on the Fold part.

I'm certainly not letting Samsung have it if they seem to replace the whole screen etc instead of just affixing another stick on tpu screen protector.

I'd rather just try a Whitestone Dome film protector or just use it without one !

This is what I did. Really easy and nice.

When was it applied and how is it holding up?

I installed it about a week and a half ago and it's holding up perfectly.

Like I have been saying, this is a LOT more adhesive than the OEM one. You can't peel this one off easily like the OEM one. That is why they include a removal kit with the screen protector. I am very confident this will stay on a LOT longer than the OEM one, which lasted me over 6 months now.

You won't lose any of the smoothness or near frictionless use of the SPen or your finger. It does not smudge anywhere near as easy as the OEM one too.

It really is worth installing, and for less than $20 (mine was $14.99 after a discount), it's worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen reviews about the Whitestone Dome having problems a few months after installation, hence my hesitation to remove the factory inner protector that is now starting to bubble at the bottom in the crease area.

If applies properly and with care, I feel it will last longer than my OEM one. Reviews are hard on things like this sometimes because if someone is rushing or not taking care, install can be a pain, even on the easy installs.

This one is, by any means, not an easy install. But if you just use common sense and take care to really clean and properly prepare everything, you should not have any issues.

If I do have any issues, I will be sure to update here.

I spent a LOT of time on the phone with Samsung. I finally got a supervisor to approve the repair and sent it in. Got a message a few days later about change in repair costs. It went from $0 to over $500! I called to find out the deal. They said that there was impact damage and the LCD inner screen needed replaced and was out of warranty because of the impact damage. I was not aware of any issues with either screen since the device was working fine before I sent it in. They had removed the screen protector that was failing with cracks up the crease and then "tested" the device. I had them send it back because they don't do partial repairs. I have TEC and I can throw it away for less than half the cost to replace it. I put it back on my account when I got it. No issues. The screen actually looks better without. I did notice 2 tiny stickers on the outside housing and hinge pointing to something. The one on the bottom was so small (scratch) that I needed a magnifying glass. The scratches on the hinge were very small. It turns out there was no impact damage to the screen at all! They are calling the scratches they put stickers to identify as impact damage and a void to the warranty. REALLY? Apparently if I have a car and the transmission fails, a ding on my door voids the warranty!

I also noticed a small scratch on the main display upper right corner that wasn't there before I sent it in. I think they scratched it when removing the screen protector.

I have called to complain but have zero confidence in a good resolution. This is more of a scam than I have seen in a LONG time! I used to work for a major carrier and simple small scratches don't void a warranty. That is considered fair wear and tear.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get Samsung to do the right thing. As I have said in previous posts, great equipment, absolutely HORRIBLE customer service!

Well my first experience with ubreakit, it reminds me of Samsung. I made the appointment thru Samsung website and drove the 2 hours there, got there with a note on the door, closed today. I received the confirmation email the night before. I called the number on the door and got someone with bad English that eventually transferred me to someone that could speak better. They were from corporate ubreakit. She couldn't get hold of anyone and stated that there have been issues with this store and they are franchise stores. She gave me a location that does mail in repairs, but at this point if I mail it in I might as well just mail it to Samsung, ubreakit sounds a little flaky.

Here's the part that concerns me. She said that the fold has this issue and getting Samsung to cover under warranty has been problematic. Samsung claims wear item and not covered, she said it's hit and miss it they cover it. I took the phone across the street to a different cell phone repair store and talked to them, at this point I was thinking if they can replace the screen protector for reasonable price I would just pay to get it done and be done with it. They looked at it and said they get the folds in all the time for this exact reason. He said most need a new screen replacement and he thinks mine the screen is cracked, but hard to tell. He obviously said since it's under warranty not to mess with it and at least see if Samsung will cover it, but he also agreed with ubreakit that Samsung has been giving static covering it stating wear item.

This is problematic to me. I love my fold and I am even willing to spend a little on care such as screen protectors. This phone isn't but 8 months old with screen issues and Samsung is giving static on warranty claiming wear. How is this wear, the phone is doing what it's designed to do and it can't make it thru the warranty period? Not to mention Samsung is promoting new technology that people are already questioning, you would think they wouldn't want the negative opinion and take care of the issues while under warranty at least.

I know I'm a little ahead of myself and Samsung hasn't denied my claim yet. It's just that you have two repair centers telling me this does cause concern. The second place said they repair them because Samsung denied the warranty claim and people bring them to him to replace it as he isn't a warranty facility for Samsung but can replace them.

I'm going to mail it in to be fixed. What do you guys think I should do, mail it to ubreakit facility 3 hours away from me or send it to Samsung??

Very bad news on the folds.

About a month ago I chatted with Samsung about my Z Fold3 and the inner screen protector unpeeling. They initially said to take it to a ubreakifix location which was an hour away. I said I would rather have Samsung fix it. So they sent me a shipping label, dropped it off at UPS, and it was back in 7 days. I used my Note20 Ultra in the meantime. Upon receiving my Fold, I saw a new inner protector and a new outer protector film was also installed. Not thrilled with the outer as I HAD a tempered glass on it. I restore the Fold and noticed lag when scrolling and vertical lines on the screen. Not sure if in the process of Samsung tech removing the old inner protector created some screen issues or if I was sent a refurbished device. Back on to chat and after discussing it with Samsung, back it went. Next day air via UPS, and 7 days later my Fold arrived. This time new inner and outer protector, new inner screen, new battery, and new hinge. They said the LCD had to be replaced. All of this was done under warranty, no hassle, and in my opinion turned out to be a good experience. As a side note, I received a new Z Fold3 after trading in my Note20 Ultra for a $1000.00 off promo, $250.00 store credit, $100.00 Google Play credit, etc. After using a Fold and going back to a Note, it was a bit of a struggle. It is all Folds moving forward. My wife is getting one of the Folds.

Yeah, I'm thinking my best bet would be to send it in to Samsung direct. I've never had a issue with Samsung repair as everything went good thru the automatic process. I'm guessing it will be covered, just a little concerning 2 separate repair centers said the same thing.

It's also concerning less then year in that the screens are even having these issues. Sounds like they need to address the screen protector issue on inside screen. I want to move forward with the fold also, but at the high price point gives me pause. Fortunate for me my back up phone is a S22U so at least I have a good phone to use during this process. I use my tab S8+ paired with the phones so now when I'm home I'm not using the phone much anyway now, a big reason for me to have a fold is gone.

Good luck with Samsung. The declared me out of warranty not because of any screen issues but because of very small sctaches on the hinge and outer housing edge. They said this is impact damage and therefore out of warranty. They declared this after they removed my inner screen protector. They said because of the impact damage they need to replace the inner screen as well, even though there is nothing workforce with it except a scratch they put on it removing the inner protector. I now have a fold that works perfectly fine with no inner screen protecotr because they don't do partial repairs....

Still fighting them on this

Yeah I don't like what I'm hearing from some on how they are handling the screen protectors. It's definitely giving me pause on the fold 4. This is the problem with early adapters on new technology. Might be better to have a third party cell repair store in your area put a screen protector on it

Did they tell you how much they wanted to fix it all?

With the original Folds, and even the Fold 2's I think, they had a special "Preferred Care" warranty that took care of screen issues easily and quickly no questions asked. But of course those were $2500 and $2000 phones... and chargers included. Now that the Fold 3's and Flip 3's are so much cheaper they're treating them like red headed stepchildren. I won't be getting another foldable until I see a completely different design come out that I can actually trust, and one the company will actually stand behind with their warranty.

I'll be sticking to slabs from now on... Pixels to be specific ;)

They wanted o er $500 to make repairs. I have insurance through Verizon and the deductible is $250.

I bought a whitestone dome protector. Super cheap. Very easy to install. Works great and looks great. If something happens to the Phone I will just file a claim.

Well I ended up shipping my fold 3 to ubreakifix. They determined it was just a cracked screen protector. Fixed under warranty. I'm still a little nervous on the reports of Samsung denying cracked screens under normal use. I know I won't have one without the insurance. For now I'm back to using my fold 3, I missed it

Glad it worked out!

The majority of the inner screen issues are just the protector issues. The stock screen protector isn't that good imo. I had 2 stock screen protectors mess up. This is why I installed a wsd protector instead of taking it to Ubreak or shipping it to Samsung. IF I get a future fold, this will be the first thing I do.

Well while it's under warranty I'll keep it stock. Samsung replaces it free. Next time I'll look into whitedome, but not while it's under warranty, and maybe by then I'll have the fold 4. Maybe if people would do it this way more Samsung would improve the screen protector. People just buy another brand protector Samsung gets off not providing a better protector and the fold should be the one phone they provide a quality protector. Unlike most people I have a good back up phone to use, so it's no big deal to go a couple days without the fold. Make Samsung pay more later for warranty replacement screen protectors they might consider improving the quality up front. If I keep this phone past warranty, I'll definitely look into whitedome next time it starts coming up. Which the possibility is high so far the fold 4 isn't showing much differences in the rumor pool, but that's another discussion.

Oh talk to repair shops, cracked screens aren't uncommon. I was told I dodged a bullet. All repair shops I talked to knew exactly what the screen replacement costs, including one that's not ubreakifix. It probably won't sway me from the folds, but it definitely makes me say you need to have the insurance. I'm not trying to scare people off the fold but it's good to be aware of possible weak points of anything you buy so you can make an educated decision when buying.

You do realize the repair shops are treating all protector issues as cracked screens. They tried to tell me that my first one was cracked. I made them pull it off and show me. It wasn't. I let them replace the screen the first time, that's why when it happened again I just replaced it myself.
