[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

You wouldn't do it this way personally? What do you mean? What would you do?

I would just add a dumb phone line. If money is tight now, but through best buy and finance for 18 months 0 interest. You can also suspend your phone without billing for the first 6 months of service

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

does this postpone the contract end date and the upgrade date by 6 months?

Yes it does if you suspend service without billing.

' How many times can I suspend service on my device?
This depends on whether you choose to suspend service with billing or without billing:

Suspended with billing ? There?s no limit to the amount of times you many suspend your service within a 12 month period.

Suspended without billing ? You?re limited to two (2) suspensions within a 12 month period, with a maximum of 90 days per
Will I incur the regular monthly access charges while my service is suspended?
This depends on whether you choose to suspend service with billing or without billing:

Suspended with billing ? You will continue to incur monthly charges.

Suspended without billing ? You won't incur charges while your service is suspended.
Is the length of my contract affected if I suspend my service?
This depends on whether you choose to suspend service with or without billing:

Suspended with billing ? Your contract length is not affected.

Suspended without billing ? Your contract will be extended out for the length of time that service was suspended (e.g., a 30-day suspension will extend your contract for 30 days)."

What is the point of suspending service with billing?

As I just posted on the other thread in the Verizon forum, I cleared $450 on a 16GB iPhone 5s that I bought for $75 at Best Buy on black friday. Even at $125, you would clear $400, which is enough to pay for the dumbphone line for 24 months AND get a used dumbphone AND still make some money off of the deal to compensate you for your time. Or you could use the ghost ESN and make even more money off the deal.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

I would. The first line reps can switch you back if they want to. Tell them you are going to return the phones if you don't get switched back and aren't going to wait too long for that to happen.

First thing. If your on the east coast your not going to get a west coast rep. When you call it sends you to the call center closest to your phone number area code. I tried this several times, its all based on your phone number. After 11pm est here, vzw is closed btw.

First line reps would not do it, that's bs. I tried a few reps before asking for a sup and none of them had the authority to do it. 1 even agreed I should get my data back but said she couldnt do it on her end. I guess the op here got really lucky with this rep.

Anyways...
I got a hold of another supervisor. She said she sent some emails out to people in her company and would escilate it further than what the other sup said last night. They both will be working together I believe. She told me shed call me Monday at around at 9 with an answer or updated info no matter what. She said with my proof she doesn't see an issue. But there is nothing on her end that she can do to change this right away. She said if there was she would of done it by now. Since unlimited no longer something you purchase, you simply can't just add it back with a simple click. They have to send it to a diff department that will look at what happened and determine if they should put it back on which she said isn't as easy as just clicking a few buttons. I have no idea what dept handles these issues though? If they decide I should have not lost it then they have to go in and fix the plan. We talked for about 45min, she gave me her name, email and #. She also told me that the previous sup I talked to already sent over all my info, reciepts, etc. She said my request is currently pending/being reviewed. Any more phone calls would prob make me look like an ***. Today is Friday she told me I'd hear from her personally on Monday morning so I can at least give them the weekend. I've been very persistent with this, not much more I can do. If I call again any first line rep will see the sups notes and just transfer me, its pointless.

I have gotten west coast reps and I am east coast. After 11pm, I tell them I am having trouble making calls and I get tech support. Tech support can do things to your account, too.

OP says his first call, first line rep did it for him. I have never gone this route so that was what I was basing it on as well as other posters who have claimed the same thing.

They need to know the code to do it, it is not a click. But they have a way to find the codes for the old plans.

Sounds like either you get lucky with a first line rep who can find the code and can give unlimited data back to you, or you are in for a lot of work. As I said, it was a lot of work for my friend but she eventually prevailed. Hopefully you will, too.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

When you guys ordered your phone from Best Buy did you get that Network Access Fee for 40 dollars requirement?

That's just the cost of the line $10 + the cost of a 2GB data plan $30 = $40.

Thanks. But if I want to keep my plan shouldn't that already be added because it is forcing me to add it for some reason.

In case the phone gets stolen is the only time I would use that option for any line with a legacy plan like unlimited data. Otherwise you can just put a dumb phone on the line for non legacy plans

Right, it is just an option for those who cannot pay a lot at the moment.

Hmm, yeah, if they are charging you $30 for 2GB instead of $29.99 for unlimited data.

Are you going through Best Buy Mobile here:

My phones sold in 2 days. I guess someone could not have the ability to float $125 for 2 days on a credit card, but then you could go with the zero financing from best buy.

You can also BTA too, if you qualify. It isn't just the ones they are selling though, also the ones he is keeping

If I opt for an iphone (which I do not want) it gives me an option for No Change. But if I go for a Droid Maxx or LG G2 it forces me to select the Share Everything Network Access Fee.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for all the help.

After finally talking to a knowledgeable Verizon Wireless Tech Support Manager that knew what I wanted to accomplish, I have successfully kept unlimited data on all 5 of my lines while buying them for the subsidized Best Buy prices. I explained everything step by step to the Verizon tech guy, he said actually that sounds like it will work. He wanted to help me do anything to keep my unlimited data. He stayed on the line and did the ESN swaps of my dummy basic phone as the Best Buy guy did the alternate upgrades. The Verizon guy said the alternate upgrade in best buy's system is the same as the transfer upgrade in the My Verizon system, yet different than the alternate upgrade coding that customer care does over the phone. Very confusing, but the Verizon tech stayed on the phone with me and the best buy guy and walked him through the process. He was able to activate them all by resetting the included SIMs so they could be provisioned properly. Best Buy system did give a warning that unlimited data would be lost, but the Verizon rep instructed him to just ignore it, because he was taking care of it on Verizon's end.

I still have one minor issue--before this, I ordered a phone thru customer care that was shipped to me. I am going to refuse that order when it arrives, however in the meantime, I can't activate one of the best buy iphones I have because the system wants me to activate the ordered phone from customer care first. I am going to wait until the order gets cancelled so I can activate the new phone. I might also just call and have them activate it manually, but I want to keep a low profile in Verizon's system, so no one looks at my account and screws with it or flags it.

So far, so good. My advice when calling Verizon to accomplish this--talk to Tech Support and get a manager. They actually understand the systems and what can be accomplished.

Everything went like clockwork once I had the Verizon guy agree what I was doing was in fact possible. All the other Verizon reps are misinformed and/or lying. This method still works great as of 12/26/13.

Thanks again!
