[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

You wont believe this b.s. I talked a to supervisor earlier today, he put unlimited data back on and said from now on any upgrades will lose you that unl data. Thats great, I check VZW.com and both lines have data again. I just got a phone call from one of the supervisors that I previously talked to, the first sup I talked to (he was the that told me he'd get back to me in 72 hours). He left a vmail saying that I was denied? WTF! How can 1 sup put unlimited back on and it shows it right on my myverizon then a few hours later a different sup calls and says I was denied. I'm about to flip ****! VZW reps are a bunch of idiots. No way are they going to take it off again once they just put it back on. I'll raise hell if they switch this. Nothing has changed since that sup just called but who knows if they take it off an hour or a day or two from now.

T-Mobile is sounding a lot better to me at the moment.
just keep checking your account. I doubt anyone will take it off.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

we can get it, but we get it through asurion and we have to pay the deductible, so it is no different than an accidental damage claim. However, if you complain enough to Verizon you can get a CLNR via an exception a lot of times. But Asurion only costs us $5.18/mo for an android or an iPhone.

Are you sure? I checked the Florida specific brochure and our mentioned that iPhones are $8.18

Yeah I doubt that they would remove his unlimited. I think that the first sup couldn't get approval is all.

PhoneClaim.com - Verizon phones replaced fast! File a claim for your lost, stolen, or damaged phone
I know and that is what I thought too, but when I put an iPhone on the line it stays at $5.18. I have called and they say they don't even have the option to put an $8.18 plan on the line with the iPhone on it. Seems weird to me, too, but I called Asurion and they said as long as their records show I have Asurion on the line and the phone on the line at the time of the incident, they will pay.

Not sure what else I could do.

No worries, so long as it is on your account then it is covered. Just is that they would charge you a different rate than what is posted, but since it is in your favor, then it doesn't matter.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Rejected. Went to a Verizon store, let'em know that I have two eligible lines for upgrade, a smart phone with unlimited data and a basic phone. Wanted to keep the unlimited data....they said the only way to kepp the unlimited data is to buy a phone off contract.

I had the same experience at a VZW store. However, I called Customer Care, they switched me over to Telesales and smooth sailing from there. I added a brand new line to which I applied my UL data line upgrade, activated my MotoX on the new line and will be swapping devices shortly.

They should be able to do the basic phone no problem in store as you are only doing a straight upgrade on that line

This is why you should follow the instructions in this thread. You can in fact pay upgrade prices and keep unlimited data.

Why do people insist on going to the stores to do this when it can all be done online?

The in-store reps are either lying to you or not even knowledgeable enough about their own system to know how it works.

Stop going to the stores people!

Here is what you do:

1) go to Verizon online, Best Buy or Costco and use the basic phone's upgrade to get the phone you want for your UDP line and pick the 2GB data plan for that basic phone line;
2) if you go to Best Buy or Costco, they will activate the new phone for you on the 2GB line in store; if you buy online from Verizon, follow the directions that come with your phone when it arrives at your house;
3) after the new phone is active on the 2GB line, test it by making a phone call or two and log onto Verizon online and make sure you see the new phone on the 2GB line;
4) shut the new phone off;
5) reactive the dumbphone on the 2GB line, selecting the 75MB plan if you must select a plan and then block data on the line; and
6) reactive the new phone on the UDP line - if your current phone on the UDP line has the same size SIM card then you can do this simply by swapping out the SIM cards; if it does not, follow the directions for activating a phone that you already have had on the account in order to reactivate the new phone on the UDP line.

Since you are using the basic phone line's upgrade THERE IS NO DANGER AT ALL OF YOU LOSING UNLIMITED DATA!

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data?

I haven't received my phone yet from best buy (should be getting it Monday) however when I logged into my Verizon account, it seemed to extend my contract. My contract officially ended on 12/15/13. When I logged in, it now says 12/27/15 while still giving me unlimited data. We'll see what happens on monday when I activate the phone with my current SIM.

yeah, I wish people here would stop going through the stores - it is making my blood pressure rise! Don't they realize that Verizon wants us off of our UDPs and the Verizon SAs are trained to do everything they can to convince us to switch off of our UDPs?

Most of the time.... That is so true

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So, here's my upgrade/unlimited data experience. First, activated the new phone on the dumb line with no problem. But when I tried to move it to my line, it wouldn't reactivate there. Spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with two levels of Verizon tech support to no avail. Finally, the rep advised me to go to a store to exchange my SIM. Went to the store, got a new SIM, activated the phone. As I was leaving, the manager said that he'd the only one bad news for me, that I'd lose my unlimited data. So, of course, I got lightheaded and started whining and pleading, even lied that I was promised to keep my UD. To all that, he said with the friendly smile, that it's not going to happen, and nobody could do anything about it. (He did suggest that I may call Verizon and try to tell them what I was "promised.") So, what do you know, before calling, I went to My Verizon both on the phone and the desktop, and I had unlimited data ... and it still shows as such 48 hours later.

I wish everyone would stop listening to the Verizon employees in store. They are either lying or they don't know how their system works.

To his credit, he looked like he was very sorry for me. :)

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

And in my experience, its a hit or miss chance with the reps at BB. Some dont know, others know, and try to protect the new data plan sell. If you have to speak with someone about this, and they tell you something different than whats in this thread, speak to someone else....they're lying, or just dont know.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Haven't had any luck on Verizon, any suggestions would help.

Tried the whole process of deactivating, activating, twice on a line that the plan switched to 2gb with the upgrade. Trying to activate the iPhone 5s, activated it twice and deactivated to put the old droid on the 2gb plan. After pending order was over when I try to go activate or switch device the iPhone 5s keeps showing as a new device to activate instead of a previous device used on the account. I'm assuming If I would activate it as a new device I would then loose my udp on both lines. The udp account I want to transfer the iPhone 5s too is a iPhone 4S, don't know if it has a chip but could I just move that chip over into the iPhone 5s and try to activate it that way.

Anyone have this problem or know a solution? Also I noticed when dialing on the iPhone 5s i don't hear a dial tone only hear the other line once they pick up , could this be a issue on the iPhone?
