[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

update on my purchase from best buy. received note 3 and noticed it ships with the sim card already in the phone. BE CAREFUL not to turn on the phone at all until you pull that sim card out and insert your original sim from your current phone.
They are all coming with the SIM cards preinstalled now. Probably for this reason.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I didn't speak with the actual technical person (sounded like they were busy and she was communicating with the tech), so something may have gotten lost in communication. For example, the answer I received may have been to a question like "can I use my current phone's SIM card in the LG G2?", which in that case doesn't necessarily include activation. So if/when I call back, I will make sure to double check specifically about activating with my current SIM card.
Be careful, though as the other poster noted they are coming with the SIMs preinstalled now. All the Best Buy rep has to do is turn on the phone and at my Best Buy they start doing that without even asking you.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I went to Costco and added a line with the minimum data plan (250MB) and got a LG G2. They activated on site. Can I just swap SIM's with one of my UDP lines or do I have to call VZW to swap it? This thread has been a lot of help! Thanks to all who have contributed.

You can switch them online yourself. If you run into a problem you can then use the chat box or call them. It should be a problem.

Oh wow, they let smartphones on the grandfathered plans have only 250MB? When did that start?

First, shut off the LG G2. Then put a basic phone on the new line or the ghost ESN. Then put your UDP SIM card in the LG G2 and turn it on. You can do that since the LG G2 has already been activated on a capped data plan line, soon to be a basic phone line.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

They are offering a $100 Bill credit, but you have to keep the data active for 30 consecutive days, so I was just going to swap over my wife's GNex to the new line. When the 30 days is up, I have a basic phone I can swap it to. Then Rinse and Repeat, for my own line :p

As far as the 250MB plan, I just asked for the minimum, and that is what she said it was.

Re: Verizon: Unlimited data Plan - How Much Longer?

Any carrier can change policies at any time. So yes it is a risk. But my personal opinion is that Verizon would allow it at least on the next upgrade. It is a risk staying on unlimited too. Verizon may decide to force unlimited to 2gb and not have the 6gb option that they have now.

I think maybe Verizon is feeling a little pressure from T-Mobile right now also, enough that they probably won't make drastic changes. Agree?

I honestly don't think that any of the carriers want to make any non customer friendly moves at this time, even Verizon.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Anyone else got a success story trying the method of using the old sim card? This forum has been really helpful. Thanks everyone

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Forgive me for what may be a stupid question, but I don't know what size sim card my phone has. It's a Droid 2x.
Would I need to buy a sim card clipper to do this phone upgrade?

Droid X2 is a 3G phone so it doesn't have a SIM card. What you need to do is find a 4G LTE phone you can activate on your account so that you can get a SIM card activated for you account.

Yes, further investigation on my part after I posted made me realize the quandry I am in. Another question - if I did do the bestbuy deal, could I get the 6g (instead of 2g) for $30 price? The S4 is cheaper by $100 via Best Buy.

Verizon is the only entity that can give you the 6G Data Max plan. But many report that they can upgrade via Best Buy and then call Verizon and get switched to the 6GB plan after getting kicked down to the 2GB plan.

Do you not know anyone who has a spare 4G LTE phone lying around that they can lend you for this? That is all you need - then you can get Verizon to mail you a SIM card for it. But the phone cannot be active on any other Verizon line at the time you do it. And you should do it before you order from Best Buy because of the pending activation hold that will likely be put on your line after you order.

You can buy a used Galaxy Nexus or other used 4G LTE device on swappa to do this for under $100 and then sell it to at least get some of your money back.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

So this is still working? I was going to get a Galaxy Note 3 since the price had dropped to $599 so i could keep my UDP but I noticed today the price went back up to $699. So I was searching through the forums and ran across this thread and just wanted to make sure it was still working so i can keep my UDP. This would be a much better option financially to take advantage of.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Should be, don't see why it wouldn't.. As long as you're seeing the option that says keep my data plan

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have been trying to purchase a Note 3 since last night when I first found this thread. Once I go thru the account verification, I get the following message.

We're sorry, the carrier's system is not available to process your request at this time. If you have other items in your cart, you can proceed with your order by removing the mobile items. Or try again later.

For assistance, please call Best Buy Mobile at 1-877-702-2211 (6:00am–midnight CST).

and the following message when I retry 30 minutes later:

Your wireless carrier has requested additional verification. Please call us at 1-877-702-2211. We'll be happy to help you complete your order. Please have this error code handy when you call: 53

When I called the number, one rep said the system was not available and to try again in 10 minutes. I tried every 10 minutes for 1 hour and I called the number again. A different rep said he has never heard the error code and he will order the phone for me. I have no clue what to do.

Either try clearing your cache or using another Web browser and see if that helps.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

just me personally, but I wouldn't call the BB number to complete the order, who knows if they'll touch your plan or not

Can't seem to purchase a phone at BestBuy.com

Well, I cleared my cache and tried from a different browser and I get the same error code. I started a chat session with a Rep and this is what she told me:

Me: I have been trying to purchase a phone since Saturday but I keep receiving the following message:
Your wireless carrier has requested additional verification. Please call us at 1-877-702-2211. We'll be happy to help you complete your order. Please have this error code handy when you call: 53

Rep:Ok well I do apologize for the inconvenience you have been experiencing. You will need to call in to one of our live representatives so that they can assist you. They will need to reach out to the carrier on yo behalf and over ride the error in the system
Me: I have called twice yesterday, and I was given 2 different answers.
Rep:What did they tell you?
Me: One was to clear he cache on my computer, the other was to wait 10 minutes.
because the system was unavailable. I have tried every half an hour...

Rep: That error code has something to do with the carrier so they need to actually reach out directly to them

This is so frustrating...My brother has been able to go to the final pay screen and I get stuck on the same error.
