[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Found this thread and a few others last week - have been shopping around for a way to keep my old Alltel plan - with varying degrees of yes and no I could keep my plan from "authorized retailers" and even Verizon's online chat agent telling me I could keep my plan, as well as an "authorized retailer" telling me about the add a dumb phone line route, I went with the Best Buy option. Going from the HTC Rezound 4G to the Note 3. Looks like I will be searching Jerry's post on cutting sim cards as well youtube clips/templates. (Anyone have any other suggestions, tips or success rate?) New Phone should be here tomorrow or Tuesday- had shipped to avoid the best buy agent trying to activate it for me. My understanding is to do the following...
1 - turn off rezound - remove sim card -
2 - unbox new phone (do not turn on or insert sim)
3 - prepare sim card from Rezound
4 - insert old sim in new phone and power on
5- Pray and Cross fingers -
No #228 or online activation correct?
Any tips if the old sim won't work?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Do you think this will still work when the new HTC one comes out on Tuesday, if it even still works at all? I saw that Best Buy is going to have an exclusive color for the HTC one so I would imagine that they'll try to stop this before its released and maybe that's why BB called to modify the order that was mentioned earlier.

I've been waiting for this phone to come out and I would love to get it and keep my UDP.if anyone has had success with this in the past few days I would love to know.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

asuwookie, you've got it. I don't know about what to do if the old sim doesn't work though.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

I think it worked - I was really worried about cutting the sim card - its not to bad - I taped the template to a piece of card board to firm it up - use the double sided tape, box cutter and a file to file down the edges you should be fine. My Verizon shows the note 3 and a new upgrade date but still shows unlimited data - we will see after the first billing cycle.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

The 4S is a 3G only phone, 5S is 4G. The SIM card inside it is only for international roaming. It will NOT work in the 5S. You will need to use the SIM card supplied with the 5S.

I am planning to go ahead with this and see if it works. Just to clarify before I order, I currently have the iPhone 4s. and plan to purchase the iPhone 5s. Will the sim card for the 4s work with the 5s so that I can keep my UDP? Thanks.

Thanks.

Is this true. Can anyone confirm. Is this is true, then I am screwed as I already ordered the phone and cannot cancel it. What are my options now to return the phone? I guess I will have to do the adding additional line method which I did not want to do. I am so bummed now. Is this Verizon iphone specific?

If this is true then why do people order SIM cutters to cut to the nano size?

SIM cards come in 3 sizes, Regular, Micro, and Nano. 4G devices used all of them. However, 3G global SIMs are found in devices as well. Even though they are the same size, they serve different features.

Thanks.

So you have a 4s and don't even know if it is 3G or 4G?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This is incorrect. The first 4G LTE iPhone was the iPhone 5 and it supported the first Nano sized 4G SIM card.

The 4s is a LTE phone, hell so it's the 4. My wife had a 4s and my step soon a 4, they are both LTE.

I'm confused. If you have both in your family, where are you getting they are LTE?

You right, I was wrong. My wife now has the 5 which is LTE, guess that's what confused me. I never use their phones so I just screwed up.

You are right I edited my post, wouldn't let me delete it.

I know what my phone is. It is a Verizon 4s which I believe only came in a 3G format.

So I guess I will have to return the new 5s phone as the strategy described in this thread will not work in my case. Is that correct? What a shame. Will Best Buy accept the return?

Yeah I was wrong earlier, thought the 4S was 4G.

I think you will have to return it through the mail. It has been mentioned on here before about buying an cheap used phone that has 4G just to get a SIM to use and then turn around abs resell that phone again. Depends on how much trouble you want to go through.

It will have to be a Verizon 4G phone correct? And then I will have to activate the SIM that came with that phone etc. I don't think it will work in this case.

Yes it would have to be Verizon. You will need to find the other posts that talk about it, I have never done that.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

First off, screenshots won't get you anywhere. Secondly, what phones do you have now? Lastly, when you receive the phones do not do anything online or over the phone. If your current SIM cards are compatible with the S4's then you just pop them in and turn the new phones on (with the old phones off). Simple as that.

But your current phone has to be a 4g phone, correct? I just learned that it will not work for me as I have the iphone 4s (which is 3g) and wanted to upgrade to a 5s. I had already ordered the phone but was told that swapping the sims is not going to work for me.

Direfan, I'm going to assume you do need a 4G phone. I'm not 100 percent sure on that though.

No you do not have to return it you can use it but it will only have 3g but you can take the activated 5s to verizon and say you got it as a gift and need a 4g sim and get it.
