[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just ordered the S5. Everything said keep existing plan. Fingers crossed. So all i have to do is just put in the old sim card, turn on phone, and it will activate and be g2g?

Yep, thats it! I upgraded last week from the Razr Maxx to the S5 with UDP still in-tact!
-Get the phone in mail, do not turn it on.
-Remove sim card from S5 and flush it or burn it or whatever...
-Shut the Razr maxx off remove sim card.
-insert the Razr maxx sim card into the S5
-insert the battery into the s5
-Turn the S5 on and follow the on screen prompts.
-It will ask you to select a language (English for you I assume)
-then it will say "The sim card has already been activated" YAY!
-Login in to your verizon account and check your plan.
-Should show extended contract to 2016 with a date
-Will also show your UDP still in tact.

Good luck!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So what if everyone posting about successful upgrades with udp in this thread works for Verizon and are making us up to steal our unlimited data? No but seriously... what if?!?

My friend who works for verizon (customer service rep in store) said that once i put the old sim in the new phone, i'll lose my unlimited data. So if I do lose it , is there any reversal? Like if I return the phone to best buy or something and can forget it ever happened?

Your friend is full of $ hit, I have already done this and I still have UDP, just like the many other before me.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I know this is a Droid forum and I was brought here thanks to google search. But would an iphone make any kind of difference. Has anyone on here upgraded an iphone using this method? I'm sure it doesn't make a difference but I'm just curious

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

pdx, I wish! Ahahaha, we (as in sales consultants) really don't get an inside information until it's readily available to the general public - most likely you and I will find out about release dates at the same time. As far as sales go, same thing. The sales on phones have to be authorized by the carriers (Best Buy has to get permission from the carriers to sell the phones for a certain price), so we actually don't know about any sales until Saturday nights (our ad's run from Sunday to Saturday).

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Also, at Best Buy we have two ways of activating phones one through Beast and the other through eROES. eROES is basically our Verizon activation site whenever we can't get Beast to cooperate. I've tried to do some snooping around, but I have yet to find a way to keep unlimited data through eROES. Supposedly, it is the same system that Verizon corporate stores use as well, with a few limitations (for instance we cannot accept bills for Verizon [or any other carrier for that matter, at least in my store] at all). I'll update to see if there is any way to keep it, but it seems that the majority of people are having success keeping their old SIMs.

Most everyone here has used their old SIM. I did, worked perfect, been over a week and no issues, still have UDP :) And I assure you, everything I touch turns to crap... If It worked for me, you're golden haha...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I would like to use the upgrade service to get a new phone for my Fiancé. I don't want to lose UDP on my current phone. Any suggestions? What site should I use to get the phone? Can this be done? I don't plan on activating the new phone on my current plan, just give it to her to activate on her own plan.

Thoughts?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

How long after you guys ordered your phone from Best Buy did it ship? I got the email saying they got my order but nothing about it being picked or shipped.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Can someone clarify if this method works for both secondary and primary lines? Both lines are eligible for upgrades, but I want a new phone on my line (secondary). Or should I purchase upgrade on my husband's primary line then just activate the phone with my SIM card?? Is that possible? I was all ready to purchase last night but I saw some comments that this only works with the primary line so want to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thank you for this thread. I was able to upgrade two HTC Thunderbolts to Samsung Galaxy S4's for $2 using the Best Buy method.

KMAG320 - yes, it works for Thunderbolts. I am living proof.

I purchased a SIM cutter from Amazon, and though the registration wasn't perfect, I was able to cut both cards from MiniSIM (Thunderbolt) to MicroSIM (Galaxy S4) and they worked right away.

I had no problem with the Best Buy order. The secondary line was an authorized account manager, so maybe that helped me not need to transfer the upgrade as others suggested. My phones shipped out within 1 day. I did not request expedited shipping, but still received the phones within 3 days.

My process was as follows:

Upgrade primary line. Ignore BB's note that VZ no longer offers UDP. Select Keep Existing Plan (Family Share 700) and Line Access Fee of $0.
Wait for VZ website to update (1-2hr) with new contract expiration date on phone #1.
Repeat for secondary line.
Receive phones. Remove SIM installed in new phones.
Practice cutting SIMs on paper. Cut old Thunderbolt SIMs to MicroSIM size. Install modified Tbolt SIM into new phone. Install battery and SD card into new phone. Turn on phone. Activates itself. VZ website detects new phone, still says UDP.
Toss unused MicroSIMs into trash.
Cheer.
:D

I tried poking through the Best Buy web site and it still wants to remove my UDP.
