[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So this morning I ordered a new phone through Best Buy.

Line 1: tiered plan
Line 2: UDP (upgrade eligible)
Line 3: dumb phone

I transferred the upgrade from Line 2 to Line 3. The order went through and everything, but about 4 hours later I received an email from Best Buy stating that there was an issue with my order. I called and they said that need to verify with Verizon and tie the SIM card number to the phone before they will send it. Ummm what? So do I go through with that or cancel the order and try again?

I would cancel and try again.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

How long after you guys ordered your phone from Best Buy did it ship? I got the email saying they got my order but nothing about it being picked or shipped.

I ordered the phone on Thursday and had it in hand Monday. When UPS delivered it I thought it was something else. Big surprise since the estimate was 10 day delivery.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I did the BB upgrade thing about a month ago. Got my S5 without a problem. Wanted to make sure I kept my UDP so I waited until now.
Tonight, I transferred my upgrade to my primary line. When I did it before I had the keep existing plan option. Now there is a "Line access fee" under the data area. It is $0.00, but you must click it for the purchase to go through. When you click on it, it says that if you have UDP you will be switched to a 2G plan. I am assuming that this means the BB glitch is gone. If anyone has luck after today please let me know.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I did it with a secondary line. No problem at all.
From my understanding it only works with the primary line.

Has anyone had success with the BB upgrade/sim swap method for a single line UDP account since this past weekend when Verizon did a billing/system update?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Dude there are multiple posts on this page alone confirming that the pending drops automatically. I just did this yesterday and it automatically dropped off. I didn't use a dumb phone line for the upgrade but I wouldn't think there would be any difference. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well it still hasn't dropped off. Plus now the line I took my old sim card from also shows "order pending", and the data package did get added to dumb line.

So much for this way being easier, I probably should have just stuck with OP's method.

Wonder if it's too late to do that? I haven't destroyed new sim yet.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

My account has 2 lines, primary(UDP w/ eligible upgrade) and a dummy line(non-smartphone) which is loaned out. Does the best buy loophole still work? I took a couple screenshots from what came up when I go thru the process, It allows me to "keep current plan" on the first window but on the second the 'Line Access Fee' scares me with its description... screenshots below

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I wanted to post an update on this. I did talk to Best Buy and they contacted Verizon. They said that normally the verification is instant, but every once in awhile it doesn't happen instantly, so they need to manually enter it. They asked for my billing password and then said that the phone would be shipped. I already got it today. I put the SIM card in from my old phone and turned it on. It showed right away that the SIM card was already activated. I checked my Verizon account a few times now and it didn't show data pending on the dump phone line and it's still showing unlimited data.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

When I changed my phone, I was forced to change to limited data plan..
Is there any way to go back to unlimited???????????

Did you just change it or was it an upgrade?

If upgrade Return the phone canceling the upgrade.

How long ago did you put in the SIM? Mine took a week to fall off though others reporting it immediately falling off. I don't see how they're implementing the data plan when you don't even have a data phone on that line. You took the SIM from your UDP line and put it in the new phone?

Yes I did. It was 4 days ago. I wouldn't be sweating it, since it hasn't been a week yet, but I saw that data charge...

I don't know if something's changed or something different with your account. I just looked back at my old bill when I upgraded the last phone in March and don't see any data charges at all on the dumb phone line for the whole month of which 1 week was in the pending activation mode. You ordered directly through Verizon?

I have the Nationwide Talk & Text FS 1400 plan / Email & Web Unlimited and have an LG Revere on that line.

I have a single line with unlimited data and i was eligible for an upgrade. I ordered a Galaxy s5 on Friday through bestbuy.com and i got the email saying it shipped. On vzw website it says my next upgrade is in 6-16 and i still have the unlimited data. I'll update when i have it in my hands and done the sim card swap

Contrary to their initial response, Verizon DOES have the ability to put the UDP back. If you got the phone from BB (as recommended here) just email them the receipt that says "No Cellular Plan Changes".

No, I bought at Best Buy. Didn't think it mattered where I bought it from. (Last time I bought at Costco.) But it was never taken out of the box, new sim card inserted, or activated, intil I put old sim in.

Did I mess up?

Do you think at this point, I should put the new sim that came wth it in and activate it (clearing pending order), put old card back in S3 and activate it....THEN put old sim in new S5 and reactivate dumb phone on dumb phone line? (Basically, doing the OP method)

Do NOT put the new sim card in it. Call verizon and have them take it off.
