[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you. I was a little drunk and had spent the whole day trying to figure out what to do about our phone situation. I am also sometimes not very bright so I needed the walkthrough. I really appreciate this.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

if only I have to add a line and he could transfer my phone number and the plan to THAT phone line and it worked. HOWEVER, he suggested to do so, I have to pay extra more money to my bill every months, so he did and it was transferred. I have a different number and different phone plan for Droid Charge, is it possible to call in Verizon Wireless over the phone and ask them to remove the second line (not the new phone, the old phone with the new number?) I'm a little lost and don't know what to do from there.. any help everyone? please let me know as soon as possible thank you!
I am not following you.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

OK let me explain again.. When I was in the store, I want to buy Samsung Galaxy note 2, originally, it was supposed to be for device payment plan, I was not qualified for that. So the guy at the store offered me a second option is to add a line (let's say the Note 2 is the second line), and he could transfer my original plan (unlimited everything with no voice minutes because I'm deaf, keep that in mind) and my phone number to that new phone (Note 2), as for the old phone I had before buying, Droid Charge. He suggested that I should keep the second phone in order to transfer my phone # and my plan OVER to the new phone. I hope you are on track with me now. Ok, he said if he does that, I have to agree to "2-years" agreement and having to pay some what $50 extra monthly to my regular bill... So what does that tell you? what is my way out from having to pay extra every month? I was thinking of having someone else to take my Droid Charge (with a different new number and plan) over for their liability.. will that work?

If you still have the same phone number and the same plan, it is the same line. Sounds like what he did was add a line to your plan, get you the Galaxy Note 2 on the new line, then he switched the Droid Charge to the new line and the Galaxy Note 2 to your unlimited data line.

If you were on an individual plan before, adding a line to an individual line makes it a family plan and yes, that is about $50 more per month after taxes and fees. But that would be a plan that included voice minutes. I don't know how they price plans without voice minutes.

I think your way out is to cancel the new line within 3 days of getting it and return the phone. Then you will get your activation fee refunded, too.

They are eliminating more and more of these work around. Especially in store. Just an FYI.

When I try to order a smartphone on my basic phone line, it asks me if I want to buy a new SIM card...should I buy a new SIM or use my old one before the transfer?

Get the new sim card, activate the phone on using that sim card, then swap SIM cards.

ok so I would

1. order the phone on the basic phone line with a new SIM
2. receive the phone and activate it on the basic line (which will automatically deactivate the flip phone)
3. activate the flip phone back on its original line (which will automatically deactivate the new phone)
4. put my old SIM in the new phone and re-activate on my line??

Quick question, does Verizon charge a cancellation fee once I drop the data plan and return line one back to a basic line?

No, so long as you buy from Verizon, best buy or Costco. Some other third party will charge a $400 fee if you did this

I was going to get the Note 2 from Best Buy but it looks like pricing has changed.

Last week... Best Buy = $199 & Costco $229
This week... Best Buy = $249 & Costco $199

So I guess it's Costco now. Does it matter whether I buy online or in store?

Doesn't matter. I prefer buying at Costco because they have 90 day return and exchange policy, though Note that your contract is locked after 14 days, regardless of where you buy . Best Buy return period is now 15 days, longer for silver members. I personally bought my Note II from best buy because they price matched, though they don't price match contract phones anymore

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Please HELP, I've just received the phone and I'm not sure what to do next. Okay so this is what I did, I ordered my new phone online using my father's upgrade ( he has a basic phone ). So now basically all I'm supposed to do is, 1. Activate the phone on his line, which would deactivate his current basic phone. 2. Then put his basic phone back on his line which would leave me with a deactivated Phone. 3. Then I can just activate the phone on my line ( the unlimited one ) . But the thing is the smartphone I have right now does not use a SIM card, but the phone I've just received does use a SIM card. Will that cause any complications?

I believe the SIM card is tied to the line you just upgraded. You will probably need to order another from online or go to the store and have them activate it there.

I did this about 3 or 4 weeks ago now, and I keep posting it. I DID NOT NEED TO GET A NEW SIM CARD! All I did was activate the new phone on the unlimited line, you just add the ID number for the SIM card in the phone.

I'm in the same boat. I just ordered Note 2 through Costco and I am going to activate the phone on my spare line. After I put the dumb phone back on my spare line, I'm just going to take the Note 2 to a Verizon store and put it on my primary line with unlimited data. My understanding is that they will just give you a new sim card on the spot.
