[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey I'm curious how it'd work if I was to transfer an upgrade to a line that has the edge program to retain unlimited. Is this even possible?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Bummer. Was hoping I could do that since it already signed off unlimited. Had a verizon rep tell me the same thing today, but wasn't sure I believed him as he also told me there's no way possible to transfer the upgrade on the unlimited line to another line without losing my data. Guess ill monkey with the dumb-line method. Thanks.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

It took several days to ship. Some even didn't show shipping until the day before I got them. Basically Best Buy website and shipping is a mess. That's why this works. It is a giant cluster F.. And they have no idea what they are doing... If the phone gets stuck in process for more than 5 days, I called and canceled then ordered again. When we got the new phone we just put whatever used sim we wanted to upgrade next from the S3s, Dosnt matter. The phone number is on the Sim and doesn't matter what new phone it is in. Check the Verizon account and confirm udp is in place on all lines. All is good..

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hi!!!!
My SIM card got here today. Put it in my galaxy, says it's activating now!!!
I'll let you guys know how it goes. How do I check to be sure I keep my UDP????

you guys are fantastic.... I need more help!! (geez, I feel so stupid lately. I would have thought I could have figured this out, I don't know why I'm having so much trouble)

anyway, I got my SIM card that Verizon sent me, since my iphone4S card isn't a 4LTE that I need for the Samsung Galaxy 5.
I put it in, started up the phone, it said to wait while it activated...................and..............nothing. it hasn't done a thing, AND my iphone is still activated. NOW WHAT????

You're situation is the same as mine. The new sim you got from verizon you need to activate that before you can put that into the phone. To activate the sim card call 877-807-4646 and press 0s to transfer to a rep and tell them you need to activate your new/different sim. Once it is activated put it directly into the new phone and you should be good to go. Than check your udp is intact. Best of luck and keep us posted.

LINE 1 UDP
LINE 2 UDP

If I upgrading using line 1 and order a phone from bestbuy.com and when it arrives I activate on line 2 will that work?

Also can you swap phones with just switch sim cards without having to involve verizon?

smackus let me understand and tell me if i got this right.

Line 1 UDP upgrade
Line 2 UDP upgrade

So what you are saying is that if you upgrade line 1 using your upgrade from bestbuy and when you receive the phone you can activate on either line 1 or line 2 with the old sim and it work on either line right?

Ah! It has arrived :) Unfortunately I have to wait until I can get my hands on the other line's phone (Monday) to activate/deactivate/cut SIM/activate but I'll advise once it is done! Can't wait to start using this beast.

That should work. Just make sure you throw away the sim card that comes with the phone. Swapping phones is as easy as switching the sim card now on Verizon.

You could do the Best Buy method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My situation,

Line 1: UDP upgradable
Line 2: UDP upgradable

My understanding is that I can use the Flying Arrow method and order the phones off verizon.com and activate them on the opposite lines and i should be able to keep UDP on both. Question i have is do i have to upgrade both phones right now for this to work properly or can I wait to upgrade one of the lines? Line 2 is a iphone and id like to wait until the new release in the fall if possible to update that phone while still preserving UDP on both lines. My thought is if possible id order the new M8 on line 2 (currently an iphone 4s) and activate it on line 1. I assume ill have to select a tiered shared plan on line 2 when i order but that would go away since the new phone would not be activated on the line it was ordered from. Then, assuming my line 1 still keeps its upgrade even after activating the new phone to it (??), I would order the new iphone from line 1 when it comes out in the fall and activate on line 2. If this is possible ill do it but it does seem like a bit of a risk since i'm not securing new phones and UDP on both lines now. If it wouldn't work ill just do the Flying Arrow method and order a 5S on line 1 to activate on line 2. Any thoughts??? Thanks!

That would be the logical conclusion I would deduce from looking at the FlyingArrow method. Seems like by activating the phone on a different line than what was ordered causes that plan to never go into effect and fall off. And the receiving line is seeing it like a phone coming from a 3rd party. But I've only seen FlyingArrow's post and haven't seen others posters report back if they've tried this method with success or failure so that's why I still call this method cutting edge. But it's a great way to upgrade and save UDP without having to start a 3rd line to channel upgrade through so I'm hoping to hear back from people trying this method whether success or failure.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

New here and desperate!

We have tried the loophole of transferring upgrades and purchasing a new LG G3 (meant for me on my unlimited data plan) on a 2g line (my sisters 3g iPhone). I have done all the steps--activating new G3 on the 2g line, waiting for it to show as activated on her line on the VZW website, calling *228 from her phone and reactivating it--it now shows her iPhone as the current device but no contract dates have changed for anyone. I have not put my SIM into the new G3 yet because I don't want to miss something ruin it all. Did I miss a step? I was under the understanding that she would show an upgrade date of 7/24/2016 (2 yrs from today).

At this point I have made multiple trips to her house and the Verizon store and I am about to have a raging crazy person meltdown:'(. Any help appreciated!

Got it. This way it will be a lot easy and less risky for my situation and I will you guys posted how it goes down.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Yes that's right. Sims don't care what phone they are in and the previous used sims are already activated. They are letting you buy a subsidized phone without making you activate it. That's why you can't go to the store. They would never let a phone leave the store without activation.

I'm actually upgrading using this method so I will keep you guys posted on how it goes.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hi All,

For those who haven't read the Best Buy thread in this forum there is a way to get a new phone and keep unlimited data.

There was no hassle except waiting for my phone. It took them essentially two weeks to ship (probably due to the holidays) but there really was no hassle at all.

So essentially you go to the best buy site, order the phone you want, make you keep everything the same. Just in case keep all screen shots and print outs.

Please let me know if there is something that needs clarification. Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this otwok. I was the 4th person at my Verizon store to get my hands on the Thunderbolt when it came out. While I enjoyed it, it was definitely time to upgrade. I have been eligible for my upgrade since 11/10/12. I got my HTC One M8 in the mail yesterday. Went and bought an otterbox for it today. I had to cut my Sim down from normal size to nano size but it works great. I checked my "Verizon Mobile" and I still have unlimited data. Many thanks. Now to root it and get S-off. If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

How do I know which line is primary? I ordered on bb ....kept same plan ....and my plan changed within the hour of ordering the phone. Had to cancel order and fight like hell with verizon to get udp back. Does this only work by ordering on best buy with the primary line? When I look on my verizon account....how do I know which line is primary?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I’ve read many pages of this thread and still a bit uncertain, as most of the posts revolve around retaining unlimited data in plans with multiple lines and phones. I have one phone, a Motorola Razr Maxx HD, that I would like to replace with a new Samsung S5, and would like to retain my unlimited data plan. Verizon has the S5’s on sale this week for $100, but will not permit me to retain my plan, though they will do me a “favor” and let me retain my plan with 6Gb for $10 less than I am currently paying. Best Buy on line currently has the S5 for $150, not sure if they will price match Verizon. Can I order an S5 from Best Buy online, have it shipped to my home, switch SIM cards before turning on the new phone and retain my unlimited data plan without having a second line or phone to swap?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok so I got my HTC m8 today. I had a galaxy nexus so I had to cut the card down. I purchased the Noosy 3 sim card cutter off amazon as I didnt want to risk screwing it up. Well I got the card out of my galaxy nexus put it in the cutter and just like a hole punch there it went! Oh NO! I realize that it cut into part of the bronze looking points. I thought I had screwed it up however I filed it a bit and popped it into the M8 and BAM like a champ it worked perfectly. At first I didn't link my google account. Eventually I did along a few other things and I was up and running.
I logged into my verizon website, it showed my new phone and still shows me having unlimited data.
I cannot thank you guys enough for helping bring this to light as well as introducing me to this cool android community.
