Re: Verizon How to Both Get a Subsidized Phone and Keep Unlimited Data after 8/24/14
Yup, lots of liars when they know they can get perhaps get you off the plan if they misinform you and then cancel the UDP themselves. I read somewhere that they are receiving compensation if they get people off the UDP plans - anyone know if this is accurate?
I don't know if there is any truth to compensation rumors, but Verizon is similar to many businesses in corporate America that create policies that may have loopholes, no doubt unintentional.
They don't always communicate those loopholes to their employees, because it isn't in the best interest of the company to do so.
I think everyone agrees that Verizon intended Unlimited Data to be lost when an upgrade from a UDP line was used, regardless of how. Employees are probably told what the intent is and may not always be familiar with ways that company policy can be circumvented.
You didn't do anything wrong when you called, because you are concerned about maintaining your unlimited data, but you may have made it awkward for the first employee.
Either he was advised of Verizon's intent to end unlimited data when a UDP upgrade is used and was never trained on the art of circumventing company policy when he was hired, or he didn't want to go on the record or make it look like he was trying to help you beat the system.
The last thing I am sure he would want is for you or any other customer to come back and say that he told you how to use an upgrade from a UDP line and it didn't work. Again, you were just being cautious, but the employee may have been equally cautious.
As someone who admits to frequenting slickdeals.net for many years, I will say that whenever there is a pricing mistake, coupon error, or some other potential loophole that benefits the consumer, it is best not to call the company.
Either it will hasten the discovery of the error, so it is fixed and/or orders will be canceled, or employees may not be aware of the "error" but only the company intent and are trained to protect the spirit of whatever company policy is being violated.
if the second employee was never able to pull up an account and never able to document the interaction, it would've been harder for you or Verizon to "hang" him since it was basically off the record.
If you have any other concerns with keeping UDP, just ask, but no one knows exactly how things may change if you wait until after 8/24.
