[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I have a similar question about sim cards.
Had a Galaxy Nexus with a regular sim card.
Bought a Moto X on swappa and had to go to verizon to get a nano sim.

Now what would happen if I used my old sim from the galaxy nexus?
Either way, I have a M8 due to arrive on wednesday which uses nano. Just curious if I tried this trick with my old sim card.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I think I'll probably wait for the Note 4 before upgrading, only a few more days until it's launched. From what I'm reading it's shaping up to possibly be the best smartphone of the year.

"best smartphone of the year" will most likely be the iPhone 6 :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I will tell you how I plan to upgrade and get the phone at the subsidized price. By transferring an upgrade to a line that I recently put on a 2gb data plan. As this loophole has closed (where you can transfer an upgrade to a basic line, select a data plan then switch it back to a basic line), my plan was never to use the loophole. My UDP line is eligible for an upgrade so I will transfer it to that line, activate the phone on it, then switch that line back to the original phone (iPhone 5s : / ) , then remove my sim card from my phone and place it into the new phone. I’m holding out for the Note 4. If you have this scenario available you should consider this.

So you're content with paying $30 on the dummy line for 24 months ($720)?

That remains to be seen...

almost half of the planet will probably say that. (not use Android folks, of course) :)

who knows, if it's really good enough to compete with flagship Android phones, I'm open to the idea of switching to the iOS camp. I don't follow Android blindly. If Snow White makes a better candy apple, I'll bite. :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm a little confused about your plan. Is your second line already on 2 GB data plan?

Thanks!

Yes it is. I upgraded my daughters line two weeks ago to a 2gb tiered plan thus making it a transferable line to us my UDP transfer upgrade. Hope that helps..

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone confirmed for sure this still works? I already have a 2gb line on the account and wanted transfer a UDP upgrade to it, but I read a couple people weren't sure if it still was working.

Without having the capability of removing the new data plan (loophole is now closed) which in your case and mine doesn't matter, yes there is no reason it shouldn't. I went through the steps on myverizon as if I were transferring my UDP to my 2gb tiered line and all seems to work. The data plan stays with the line you are transferring it to and the new 2 year contract goes on your UDP line. I recommend doing as I did and do the steps on verizons site. You will see what I'm talking about. Keep in mind I didn't actually finalize the purchase as I am waiting for the Note 4.

Let's say I were to go through with my transfer and receive the phone. I would activate the phone on the tiered line; then switch it back to the original smartphone; take the new phone and insert my sim card from my UDP phone; turn the phone on and the screen should say the sim card is already activated. I did the sim card swap in April thru the Best Buy method and it worked great! There is nothing that tells me it would not work the same. And even if there were issues swapping the sim card all I would do is go to verizon and have them get me another sim card. They can't tell you what you can or can't do with the phones you own. Simply tell them it was a gift if you feel necessary to make up an excuse.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Question-
I have a primary line with UDP (S4) Upgrade Available
Line 2 - UDP iPhone 4s Upgrade Available
Line 3 Dumbphone, Upgrade Available

I want to get my wife an S5 on Line 2- What is the best way to do this?
Should I swap my S4 to her line, make the S5 BB purchase on her line, and then bring the S4 back to my line, so that I could then do an upgrade when the Note4 comes out?

What is the simplest, safest way? I appreciate any input-

iphone will never be as good as Android. Iphones are for people who can't use a smart phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ask Verizon for a SIM for your wife's line, then activate it using your S4; then use the newly activated SIM in the S5...and remember never use the SIM that came with the phone from best buy

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I have a SIM card related question. I previously had an LTE phone that used a micro SIM card and then recently bought a Swappa phone that needed a mini SIM card. So I went to Verizon and they gave me a mini SIM to use in the swappa phone. No issue. So now I want to order a BB phone to keep unlimited and it will use a micro SIM card. So can I just pop in my unused micro SIM card to activate the phone or should I just cut down the mini SIM card (since it is in use now) and use that instead? I am concerned about confusing their system by activating the new BB phone with a currently unused SIM card. Thanks...

You should use the current/active SIM card. You may need to cut it or use an adapter for it to fit in your next device.

If you try to use the previous SIM you will have to go through an additional activation with VZW and that can force an unwanted change in your calling plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The data plan stays with the line you are transferring it to and the new 2 year contract goes on your UDP line..

I'm wondering how Verizon keep track of the new contract end date
on the line that the upgrade came from, as well as the 24-month $30
data plan on the line that got the upgrade.

For example:

Line 1, UDP, upgrade now
Line 2, 2 GB tiered data plan, upgrade eligible on 3/1/2015.

I transfer the upgrade to line 2 on 9/1/2014. Line 1's contract end date
will become 9/1/2016. Line 2 will be required to keep $30 data plan for
24 months until 9/1/2016.

What will happen if I use Line 2's own upgrade on 3/1/2015? Will that line
be required to keep $30 data plan until 3/1/2017? Or is it still 9/1/2016?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I also was looking into buying the LG G3 from Amazon, and use the same loophole but the ETF dilemma is what kept me away. I called Amazon wireless today and asked them to explain to me how their ETF works, and the guy was honest and told me not to upgrade through Amazon because if I do not activate the sim card they sent me, the next month they will charge any credit I have on file for $400. Now I am stuck and back to the beggining since BB is not shipping the S5 anymore or G3. Does this loophole work with Costco anymore? I am that desperate now lol.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

This Amazon ETF policy is a deal breaker, might as well add $100 and pay full price for LG G3

For those who've done this with amazon none have reported being charged any etf. But it's your choice. Verizon reps etc have said the same thing for all loopholes but they've worked out well. (Not saying it currently works) but just saying that reps aren't the best sources for info.
