[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, here's my situation. I know it's not unique, but looking for guidance. I have read most of this thread and others but can't find anything exactly applicable.

Line 1 (mine) UDP, iphone 5, upgrade eligible
Line 2 basic phone , not eligible
Line 3 UDP, galaxy s5, eligible
Line 4 TDP, 3G smartphone, eligible

Like the rest of you, in the past I have transferred all upgrades to line 2, purchased new phone, activated on line 2, then transferred to the desired UDP line. That was my plan this time until I opened this thread :(

Lines 1 and 4 would like to purchase the iphone 6 from Verizon tonight at midnight. Why Verizon? Because we are both planning on trading in old iphone 4's to get the $200 credit.

I was going to do a straight upgrade on line 4 and a transfer from line 1 to line 2 back to line 1 for the other. Now I'm stuck.

It looks to me like I could use the scyzek method to do both upgrades via line 4 but that will cause a significant delay in getting the second phone as I will not be able to order the second phone until the first has arrived on 9/19. Also, I'm not too sure I could trade in two iphone 4's for the credit after upgrading the same line twice.

BB method doesn't work because I want the $200 trade in credits.

Am I pretty much screwed? Anyone know what the cost is to buy out of the 2 yr data plan commitment on Line 2 should I go that direction?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks the clarifications! I have 2 lines but only need 1. The other UDP is my ex, so I was gonna hang onto it as a safety, but cancel it was I was sure the upgraded line retained the UDP

Okay I'm the new brave person everybody has been waiting to see put their money and plan on the line. Here's what I just did.

I have 3 phones on my family plan. 1 is UDP, 1 is 2gb tier, 1 is a feature phone (ignore this entirely right now)
I transferred the upgrade from my UDP line to the 2gb tier line on verizonwireless.com
I bought a LG G3 from verizonwireless.com on the 2gb tier line on 8/29/2014.
I took the SIM card from my UDP line and put it in the LG G3 (same size thankfully)
Turned on the LG G3 with UDP SIM. Phone recognized the SIM and activated the device on its own with my UDP phone #.
I went to verizonwireless.com to my account. Account shows LG G3 activated on my UDP line and still shows UNLIMITED DATA
Contract on the UDP line has been extended by 2 years.

Not gonna lie I was nervous as all hell from reading this flamefest about what works and this and that and speculation running wild. Took a chance and it worked. I trusted the SIM card to do the magic people were already vouching for. Althought I was considering returning this to try BB method but I wanted to stay strong. I can provide more proof if the vast majority of you don't believe it otherwise here's my device with UDP intact as of tonight.

I'm planning to pre-order through verizon.com. I know Scyzek transferred his upgrade from his UDP to a TDP to buy the phone. I currently have an upgrade available on my UDP line. If I were to pre-order the iphone 6 with my UDP upgrade (but still switch with my old sim card) when it arrives, will I still retain UDP? Please help!! I'm thinking about ordering it tonight at 12:01 :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, so here's my plan:

I will upgrade line 4 (TDP) with Verizon and receive the $200 trade in credit for the iPhone 4.

I will transfer the upgrade from line 1 (UDP) to line 2 (basic), preorder the iPhone 6 from Apple on line 2. Upon receiving the new phone, I will remove the installed SIM card, put the UDP SIM card in and power up.

I assume the SIM card from the iphone 5 is not NFC compatible? Can I then go to verizon and get a new SIM card for the iphone 6 or even possibly use the one that shipped with it once my activation is complete?

Sorry in advance for the ignorance. I really have tried to do my research but it's mind boggling.

My other options are:

Pay full retail - $500 difference
Accept the $30/mo data plan on line 2 - $720 difference
Cancel line 2 and accept the ETF - $350 difference

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Did you get your 5s on contract? If so, I take that to mean Verizon allows for early upgrades at a lesser of a discount?

Oh no, I have had an upgrade for years :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My brain hurts from reading most of this and yet I am still not sure what will work for me.
Line 1 (wife) 2gb TDP, upgrade eligible
Line 2 (Me) Unlimited Data Plan
Here is what I would like to do all while keeping my UDP
A. Order phone on her line and upgrade
B. Receive phone and activate on her line
C. Transfer new phone over to my UDP line
D. Reactivate her original phone.
Will this work and if so can the same sim that came with the new phone stay in it between transfers?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I presume the SIM swap method will not work for me. I have a Verizon dumb phone that has no SIM sinces its only CDMA and it seems that my wifes iphone 4s (UDP) also does not have a slot for a SIM card. What options would I have since both lines are up for an upgrade?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just did a trial run at apple.com and I couldn't upgrade line 2 at all. I transferred my upgrade from my line to line 2 on verizonwireless.com but it wasn't reflected with apple. Apple would not allow me to upgrade line 2 at a subsidized rate. Only when I typed in my own phone number would it give me a subsidized price. I'm afraid I could lose my UDP if I proceed that direction.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Sorry for the double post.......I didn't think it went through.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Would BigTymer228 situation work the same in my favorite except that I transfer my UDP upgrade to the TDP line and follow the same steps as above? In other words my situation:

Line 1 2gb TDP
Line 2 (Me) Unlimited Data Plan upgrade eligible

Here is what I would like to do all while keeping my UDP
A. Transfer UDP Upgrade to TDP
B. Order phone on TDP and upgrade
C. Receive phone and activate on TDP line
D. Transfer new phone over to my UDP line
E. Reactivate TDP original phone.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I'm planning to pre-order the iphone 6 tonight thru verizonwireless.com. But i'm confused how buying the iphone 6 with my UDP line upgrade with Scyzek is different because He transferred UDP upgrade from his line to TDP and bought a phone with the TDP. Wouldn't that still mess with the UDP line in terms of upgrading with the UDP line?

line 1: UDP with upgrade
line 2: TDP no upgrade

I need help before I order tonight....should I transfer my UDP upgrade to TDP and buy it with the TDP line? or just pre-order the phone directly from the UDP line and just swap sim cards when the phone arrives? If the former method, do I first activate it on th TDP line, THEN the UDP line? or can I just directly activate it on the UDP line when it arrives. Please help me clarify how to go about this whole thing. Thanks in advance!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

after the recent changes to the upgrade system on the 24th im overly lost and confused as to what to do, but heres where I stand:

I currently have
line 1) dumb phone- upgrade eligible
line 2) galaxy S3, with UDP - upgrade eligible

I want to upgrade BOTH lines, line 1 will upgrade to galaxy s5 TDP, and I want to upgrade line 2 to iPhone 6

im not sure how to go about doing this without losing the UDP on line 2, ive been reading several pages on this thread and am still incredibly confused, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The apple website will not allow me to upgrade my basic phone line at a subsidized rate even though I transferred my upgrade to that line on VZ website. It will only allow a subsidized upgrade on my line which I am afraid will take my UDP away even if I do swap sims on arrival.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ordered the gold Galaxy S5 Gold 2 days ago from membershipwireless, Costco's online phone presence. The only option was to keep my current data plan, nowhere did it mention anything about a 2gb plan. The Note 3 also gave me this option. The other phones on their website made me choose a tiered data plan. At no point did a screen pop up saying I had to switch from unlimited data to a tiered plan. I have screenshots of every page.

I was charged for the phone today, No e-mails mention a 2gb/change in plan.

Went to my verizon online and it says I currently have unlimited.

Went to my verizon on my current Nexus. Went into the "view receipts" section under "profile" and there is a customer agreement dated 9/11/14. It is a 1 page document and shows that I upgraded my line through "wireless advocates" the name membershipwireless uses. Nowhere does it mention a change in my plan. It lists a $350 ETF, 24 month term, effective 9/9/14. Under features, it is blank. My contract has already been extended on both sites.

Needless to say, I'm still going to just do the SIM switch from my current phone to be safe, but at no point in this process have I been warned I will be switched off unlimited data, unlike Best Buy method, which at least makes you click through the losing unlimited data warning.

My prior orders from Best Buy have always failed. So if you keep getting problems from Best Buy, this may be a way to upgrade an unlimited line.

I will update if/when I receive the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do you have any idea or theory as to whether the BB method will work with Apple? I guess I will try ordering from apple directly on my UDP line and swapping SIM cards on arrival.

Correct. However, with Best Buy, it does warn you that you will lose your unlimited data with a pop-up when you begin the process. Ordering the Gold S5 from Costco did not prompt any warnings at any point.

Believe me, I am using my old sim and monitoring my line for a few months to make sure.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have 4 #s on my account. 3 UDPs and one basic (no data) line. My phone is on one of the UDP.
I used the upgrade on the basic line to order a new phone through BB (checked keep my current plan).
I plan to drop my SIM card in the new phone when it arrives and use it as my phone.
What will happen in this scenario? Will I have to pay the ridiculous $30 a month for 2 years on the basic line? Will I be able to keep my UPD?
A big THANKS in advance.

You will keep your UDP without paying $30 for 2 years.

so there is ZERO chance that Verizon can take away my UDP if I do the Best Buy upgrade method?
