[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

NFC is built into the phone unless you are referring to ISIS which is Verizon's way of paying for things through NFC (which you don't need unless you plan to use it). My old sim card doesn't have this nor do I want it. Just FYI...

The antenna is in the battery and the sim must support NFC. I tried to use S-beam and it would just time out repeatedly. Thats when Idid the research and learned that you also need an NFC compatible sim card. I got the new sim and everything works as it should.

And yes, you are correct. Isis and other apps like that are why Verizon tied NFC capability into the Sim card. But you need the sim card for more than just Isis wallet (which I have never used).

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know if it's possible that I can go through the network optimization and then get back on a 2 year agreement( note 4) and not be throttled?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I had to get a new card after activation so that I could get NFC to work. What I did was order a new Sim through the Verizon web site and go to my local bj's to activate. I vaguely described to the kid at bj's that I managed to get a subsidized phone and keep unlimited and I was afraid that he would take away my unlimited if I gave him my account info. After he promised not to take my unlimited he went on to set up my new Sim card and even enrolled me in there new device insurance program.

I went to bj's (where I am not even a member I might add) because I feel like they have to be very rigid with rules at the Verizon store. There is always a manager overseeing everything that is going on. At bj's there was only one kid there and he told me that his manager was working the "other" shift.

So I did have lte after I fixed my network to cdma/lte for a few hours. Back on 3g all day today.

Forgot about nfc... What are other ways to get a new SIM card without losing udp?

You can get a new SIM with no problems. The only time a new sim will effect your plan is when you got a subsidized device with it. Just go to a Verizon store, call online or order a nfc sim from Verizon ISIS/softbank.

Kinda in the same boat but I look at it this way, eventually we'll all be throttled and if I can get the note 4 at the sub price then I'll take my chances with the throttling.

According to Verizon's rules, if you haven't fulfilled the minimum contract term, you're not subject to throttling. When you get on a new 2 year agreement, that should mean you are no longer subject to network optimization. However, they may not set up the software to check for new contracts since you're not technically supposed to be able to upgrade using UDP lines.

The answer, like most things regarding UDPs now, is we'll find out when it happens to someone and they report back.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

5 lines, 3 feature, 2 unlimited. Upgraded feature line on 8/23 and picked up phone in store on 8/28.

Since my account was remarked, and I had proof of purchase, and due to best buy not starting contract immediately, I had to do this :

I was able to have a tier 2 rep adjust my contract date to 8/23 to eliminate the need for the data package. So I'm sure with Verizon and their inconsistencies, you may be able to upgrade, and spend a lot of time on the phone having them remove it.

I don't think it would be worth your time at all. And better to explore other methods listed here.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have activated a new sim in my old phone and I am now ready to get the G3 from best buy, but.... I am a little concered over this new statement "Verizon Wireless has ended its unlimited data plan option. If you have unlimited data, you'll be selected to their most common 2GB plan when you upgrade. You can change your data plan any time after you upgrade. As long as your new phone is compatible with your plan, the rest of your features will stay the same." should I worry or has this always been there?

This statement has been on BB's website for quite awhile. The change to the 2 GB plan is tied to the SIM card they ship with the phone, so it will never process if you follow the steps of the BB method. Despite the warning, the receipt BB will give you should still say "keep current plan".

And even if something goes wrong and the data plan is changed (it won't be), you can return the phone within 14 days of purchase to revert your plan.

I really hope the minimum contract text is exactly what we think it means.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know from experience if an older LG verizon microsim, if cut properly, will definitely work in an iPhone 5 nanosim slot? I'm considering using the BB method to update from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6, and would need to buy a used phone, maybe a LG Lucid 4g, to order and then transfer into the iPhone 6 when it arrives.

So I guess my two questions are:

1. Even if cut properly, will an Android type sim work in a late model iPhone?
2. How hard is it to cut a microsim to a nanosim without damaging the sim?

Thanks.

I reccommend calling VZW tell them a friend gave you an Iphone 5 and you just need a sim card. They will mail you one for free

Then buy a sim card adapter

Nano Sim Card to Micro Standard Adapter Adaptor Converter Set for iPhone 5 4S 4 | eBay

From here you can stick the nano sim card with the adapter in your current phone, and then transfer it to your iPhone when it comes.

Thats exactly what im doing. Just preordered my iphone tonight

1. The SIM card is a SIM card. There are no android or ios cards. The only difference is the size (maybe NFC also).

2. I would purchase a cutter from amazon or eBay. It will need to be cut then sanded. Nano SIMs are thinner.

If you take your time you should not have a problem. You can cut then put it is a shim and use it in the android phone to make sure it still works.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just transferred my upgrade from my two UDP to two TDP lines and preordered two iphones with the upgrades.

When i receive it i am going to put in my UDP sim card. Will there be an activation pending lock on the line i use the upgrade with? I'm a bit scared now

iphone.jpg

It says "Device needs to be activated (activate when you receive device)

Thanks, Jackpot. The only problem is that I have a Verizon iPhone 4, which has no SIM card slot...so your method is out for me.

Just purchase or borrow a used Verizon LTE phone. You can get one for around $50. You can then resell it when your done.

Thanks

The transfer upgrade method seems to be the one way we don’t have a solid answer for anymore. I would think you can insert the current sim card from the phone the transfer is going to, activate it and may or may not drop the pending activation. It also may or may not change the data plan from the line the transfer came from. Im just throwing out scenarios here but these would be my two main concerns. I thought I read a few pages back that they were successful with transferring by inserting the existing sim but I don’t think they even activated the new phone on the line it was transferred to, so their scenario seems to be slightly different from yours. Sorry not much help but maybe we can get someone to chime in to help walk you through it a bit more or present other possibilities of what could happen.

Thank you. I heard that if i activated on the TDP with my upgraded transfer it would change my UDP data plan, thats why I was just going to isnet my UDP in the TDP phone and hope there is no pending activation. People have said it works but Im weary of there being no pending activation lock.

Also, can someone point me in the right direction on where to pre-order the iphone 6 from best buy online? I can only find in-store only which we know the BB method you get it shipped to your house.

That may be so and that is what I would be worried about but if you insert the existing sim card from the line the transfer went to then maybe you would be ok. And lets say it does work and you retain your UDP but a pending activation still shows, I would at that point call verizon and tell them you did activate the phone on said line and there is no reason to why this pending activation should still be showing. If the sim card comes into the conversation and they ask if you activated it with the pre-installed sim card then you tell them you were told to use the existing sim card that was already on that line. They should clear the pending activation and if they give you grief about it then you fight them on it (good luck with that) or you then tell them to cancel the order and send back the phone. These would be the steps I would take if presented with this scenario, but I plan to the do the BB method again when the Note 4 comes out.

In regards to preordering with the BB method, I would be patient and wait until the phone becomes readily available for a smooth transaction. I know most people want to get on another 2-year contract before the network optimization is in place but we all have to make some scarifies eventually and for me waiting for the Note 4 and keeping my UDP( fingers crossed) is worth more to me then being throttled. And we will all be throttled eventually.
