[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here is my scenario
Line 1 - UDP
Line 2 - TDP upgrade
Line 3 - basic phone upgrade
If I get the phone on line 2 and activate it then switch back to the phone that was on there I can then transfer the new phone to line 1 without losing my UDP correct?

That's exactly what you should do.

Correct.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm trying to upgrade my wife's iPhone 4s UDP to iPhone 6. So if I'm reading all the comments correctly, I can find a LTE phone to get her an LTE Sim card. Then buy an iPhone 6 at BB or Costco online with a 2yr contract for the sub price, when the iPhone 6 comes in, do not turn it on, take the Sim it came with, swap it with the already activates Sim card then turn on phone and she'll keep her UDP?

This is what I currently have.
Line 1 iPhone 4s UDP. Avg less than 1gb of data
Line 2 Moto X UDP. Avg 3gb data
Line 3 basic feature phone on contract
Have the 700min shared plan.

So if this doesn't work it won't be a huge hit since she doesn't use much data for now but says it planning to use more (gym).

Thanks

If I do happen to lose her UDP, do any of you know how my billing will be broken down to? Right now it's $80 for the 700min talk & text, plus 9.99 per device and 29.99 per smart phone for unlimited data .

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

And this is another reason to just activate it on the TDP. The easiest thing for you is the following:

1) Log onto Verizon and transfer your UDP line's upgrade to a TDP line;
2) Order the new smartphone you want on the TDP line;
3) When the new smartphone arrives, activate it on the TDP line using the SIM card that ships with the phone;
4) Wait at least an hour and make a few calls/text from the new smartphone to make sure it activated OK;
5) Log onto Verizon and put the TDP line's old smartphone back on the TDP line; and
6) Log onto Verizon and put the new smartphone on the UDP line.

By doing these 6 steps, you won't have to worry about pending activations or wrong SIM sizes.

It has been almost a week and everything went perfect. I followed the steps above and I kept my unlimited data. There is no pending activation on either of my lines. That went right away. So thanks again. Love the Turbo other than the volume controls. Samsung had that much better.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have a basic line with upgrade available. Can I transfer that to my UDP line and then use the BB method?

I heard starting today you can't transfer that upgrade.

You could just upgrade the dumbphone line and never activate it on that line. Sorta like the best buy method. Directly upgrade on the unlimited line. I did that and did not have to pay for the data on that line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Key is to not use the sim provided, but use the sim from the unlimited line

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So what does this mean for transferring upgrades from a UDP to a tiered data plan, anything?....
Nothing, your UDP line will get a new contract and it will be under the new rules. But you are not leaving Verizon so there will be no problem.

I wonder if we'll be able to change a basic line to a TDP line using the basic lines upgrade without changing plans?

You can try to activate a smartphone on the line first

If I could do that I'd be OK with paying for the new TDP line. I have 4 UDP lines so being able to cycle my upgrades through the TDP line would still be cheaper than buying 4 phones outright.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so check this out...

Line A (main line) - basic phone - getting upgraded to TDP
Line B - basic line - upgrade eligible
Line C - 4g smartphone - UDP - upgrade eligible

Line A is probably getting a S4 since it will be free via Vzw...Wondering how to Line C to a new smartphone and keep udp. Thinking about moto x or even an iphone for lineC idk. Just need something since current phone is cracked and busted lol.

Please help...

Upgrade Line A

Then transfer the upgrade from C to A.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was getting concerned that the pending activation on my udp line may not clear after using the BB method, but finally after 37 days it no longer shows a pending activation on my line and I still have unlimited data!
Not sure I will take that risk again since I also have a tdp I can use to cycle my other udp upgrades through. The BB method just seemed slightly easier and more convenient.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi All,

I am ready to pull the trigger and have been following the thread for a while. I have not read the most recent posts and I really don't know ehre to start.

I have 2 iphone 4s with UDP and want to upgrade to the iphone 6. I was waiting for black friday but Best Buy deals on the iPhones are crap so I am going to pull the trigger using the Best Buy method and using a Moto X as a bridge to get me to 4G.

The question I have is does the Best Buy method still work?

Look one post above you. It's not that hard to figure out.

For the most part, any SIM swap method still works on Verizon including the Best Buy method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have
Line 1 UDP LG G2 ugrade
Line 2 UDP iPhone 5 (wife) no upgrade
Line 3 TDP iPhone 4 (step son) no upgrade.

Getting my wife the new iPhone (that's what she likes)

Went into store, told them I want to transfer upgrade from Line 1 to Line 3. Girl says you will lose your UDP. I replied, no I won't. She went and asked another worker and came back and said yes you will lose it. I didn't argue I just said OK and walked out the store.

As soon as I got home I did the transfer online and though out the whole process it shows all lines and of course I keep the UDP. Now just have to wait for the phone and do the rest. But I know there will be no problems.

I don't know if the people in the store are just stupid, or they are told that to try and get people to give up their UDP. Right now I'm over 100 GB with like 4 days left on my cycle. She saw that and didn't even try to talk me out of giving it up LOL
