[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is this possible?

Line 1 - unlimited - no upgrade available
Add a line from Best Buy (droid turbo $49 or LG G3 .01)

Do not activate droid turbo or lg g3, just pop in sim from Line 1 unlimited (HTC One m8 nano sim)

Thanks

I don't think that has been tried. Or if it has, it hasn't been done any time recently. You can try it just remember that you have 14 days to return the phone if the automatically add the second line to your account.

This plan is definitely a do so at your own risk.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am so confused after reading so many posts. Can someone help. I want to get a Galaxy S5 and put it on a UDP without losing it. I have line 1 UDP Droid 3 upgrade available Line 2 TDP Iphone 4S upgrade available both are month to month I do not want to pay full price for S5 and understand I will be back into 2 yr contract

Yours is actually pretty simple:

1.) Upgrade Line 2 (since it is a tiered data plan) with the S5 (this can be done either in store or at home)
2.) Keep the S5 on the Line 2 for at least an hour. Make sure calls, texts, and data are all working.
3.) At home, log into Verizon online. Reactivate the iPhone 4s on to Line 2.
4.) Now you can activate the S5 on Line 1 through Verizon online

This method will put Line 2 into a new 2 year contract. When Line 2 wants to upgrade, just transfer the upgrade from Line 1.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have a Galaxy S4 with unlimited data on it with Upgrade available.
my other line is a feature phone with no data and no upgrade available. I want to upgrade the s4 to the iphone 6+ without losing UDP. Can this be done, and how. Thank you for any and all help. (hopefully i posted this correctly...)

It can be done fairly easily:

1.) Through Verizon, transfer your upgrade to the basic phone and order the 6+ having it shipped home.
2.) When the 6+ arrives, do not turn it on or plug it in, instead log into Verizon and select "activate or switch device".
3.) Select your unlimited line
4.) Select "Not activating my new device at this time, take me to the Activate or Switch Device page".
5.) Now activate the 6+ on the unlimited line by "Activating a device that has not been on the account before" and using the IMEI and SIM numbers provided with the new phone.

This will leave a pending activation on your basic line for about a month, so don't do any changes to that line. Otherwise, enjoy your new 6+.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

so it's okay in this case to use the sim card that comes with the new phone?
Thank you very much for your help!

As long as you transfer the upgrade to the basic line, it will be fine. If you don't transfer, then it will not be ok.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I don't have to put the sim from the droid into the new phone, correct? So when activating the S5 on line 2 then activating on line 1 the sim in S5 is not tied to the limited data plan on line 2 and will recognize the unlimited on line 1? If I understand correctly the info on the Sim is tied to the account and not the individual phone number it gets activated on first. Hope this makes sense. Found a better price at Best Buy/verizon so I could do the upgrade that way? thanks so much for your help.

You can upgrade at either Best Buy or Verizon since BB allows upgrade transfers. Those are the only two places that this will work.

As for the SIM, the process will actually recode the SIM to the unlimited line. When you reactivate the old phone, this will free up the S5 and its SIM. When you go to activate the S5 on the unlimited line, the steps will cause you to reprogram the SIM to meet the plan on the line. This is why you reactivate the old phone on Line 2 first before moving the S5. By activating the old SIM, you also deactivate the SIM in the S5.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1 - RAZR Maxx with UDP out of contract. Line 2 - Spectrum 2 TDP with upgrade available. I upgraded Line 2 through Best Buy. Had the Droid Turbo shipped home. I want the Droid Turbo on line 1 hopefully keeping UDP. Should I pull the new Sim out of the Turbo and put the Sim from the Razr Maxx in before turning on the Turbo? Or activate the Turbo on Line 2, then reactivate the Spectrum 2 and swap Sims with the RAZR Maxx?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've been reading through all this and just want to see if I can get insight into best/easiest method for my plan. Here is how the plan looks:

Nexus - 2gb - upgrade available
Iphone 4s - Unlimted - upgrade available
Galaxy S4 - 2GB - 8/1 upgrade
flip phone - no data - upgrade available

The nexus does not need an upgrade as it is my father's and he rather uses it past email. I want to upgrade my 4s to the Note 4. Am I correct if I use the nexus upgrade to purchase the note4, ship to home, activate it on his line, switch back to his nexus after an hour, and then reactivate note4 on 4s line? Is this the easiest? Does that keep the upgrade available on 4s line in case needed later to transfer?

If I transfer upgrade to S4, will that line lose its upgrade come 8/1?

Thanks in advance.

1.) Activate the Turbo on Line 2

3.) Reactivate the Spectrum 2 on Line 2
4.) Activate the Turbo on Line 1 with the SIM that came with the phone

When you activate the Turbo on Line 1, you will automatically reprogram the SIM for your unlimited data. There is no need to swap SIMs especially since the Razr Maxx and Turbo have different sizes.

Your plan is correct if you use the Nexus Line. You can also use the S4 line by transferring your upgrade to it and following the same steps. If you use the S4, it will still have its upgrade available on August 1. The iPhone line will have its contract extended. If you use the Nexus line, its contract will be extended.

Basically, the contract will be extended on the line where the upgrade comes from.

I thought that the unlimited data was tied to my Sim and that if my Sim changes so would UDP. Would the other method also work or will that create other issues?

SIMs can be reprogrammed and that's what happens in the steps I outline. When you activate the old phone, you deactivate the SIM that comes with the new phone. When you activate the phone on a new line, Verizon's system will code the SIM for unlimited data.

If you look back through this thread (just the last 3 or 4 pages), you'll see that this works.

Also, your situation is similar to what captaincooper did a few pages back. Just follow our interactions and the same steps will apply to you.

OK, so do I call Verizon to do the activation/deactivation on these phones or should I do it from the Verizon website?

And my last question, is this possible to do from best buy - to transfer the upgrade, buy and have sent home then activate the sim on Verizon's website? ( i have a gift card to use...if i can...)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes. Best Buy allows trading of transfers between lines, so feel free to transfer your upgrade to the basic line.
