[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Want to keep UDP and minimize the contract obligation on the upgrade lines.
We have:

Line 1 UDP: Droid RAZR w/ Upgrade Available
Line 2 UDP: Droid RAZR Maxx w/ Upgrade Available
Line 3 Tiered: Droid Turbo w/ Upgrade USED recently
Line 4 Tiered: Droid Turbo w/ Upgrade USED recently

On lines 1 and 2 is there a way to get an upgrade and also not dramatically increase the contract time on lines 3 and 4? If not how do I upgrade lines 1 and 2? Maybe I can not have it both ways, but knowing my options before giving away my money would be helpful and appreciated.

Transferring the upgrade from the unlimited lines will have no effect on contract dates of lines 3 and 4. Your unlimited lines will be extended.

You can use the best buy method on lines 1 and 2 to get new phones. You can also transfer the upgrades from. The unlimited lines to the tiered lines through Verizon. Again neither of these scenarios will have any effect on the contracts of the tiered lines.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am confused. In you first post you say line 2 is a dumbphone. In you next post you say it had unlimited. Several things will make you loose unlimited data. Among them are DIRECTLY upgrading an unlimited line through Verizon and activating a dumbphone on an unlimited data line.

If you are asking just about the SIM card, they will send a new one with the phone.

Oh, I'm sorry I totally mistyped that as I was in a hurry because my little niece wanted to play. Let me edit it real quick (Line 2 is dumb line initially btw)

After reactivating the dumb phone, is transferring the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2 to get another Nexus 6 fine and not cause UDP to be lost? This is also the part where I was curious about using the previous Nexus 6 SIM that was temporarily activated on Line 2's original upgrade that was then transferred to Line 1 which has their own UDP SIM.

Basically steps that would follow:

First part:
Line 1 UDP w/ Upgrade
Line 2 Basic w/ Upgrade

Use Line 2 Upgrade and get a Nexus 6 then activate it and use for about an hour or so. Then deactivate and activate old dumbphone for now and give phone to Line 1 which they put their UDP SIM into it and activate it that way.

Second Part:
Line 1 UDP w/ Upgrade
Line 2 Now Tiered Upgrade has been used

After doing first part, Line 1 then transfers their upgrade to Line 2 and Line 2 then orders another Nexus 6. Do they then use the previous SIM that they used to activate the first Nexus 6 or do they just use the new one that comes (or does it not matter in this case)?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If i use the BB method it looks like my current SIM Cards are wrong size, how do I activate the phones given this? What steps do I follow?
If I order from Verizon what steps do I follow to upgrade and activate?
This all gets a little messy but I am sure is well worth the reward!

Once you activate the dumbphone the sim will become inactive. When you upgrade the line again they will send you a new sim. Also you will be paying for data on the dumbphone after you upgraded that line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

do i have any other options besides using an adapter for the galaxy?

Thanks!!!

All you need to do is the following:

1.) Activate the iPhone on your brother's line following the directions that came with the phone
2.) Keep the iPhone on your brother's line and wait at least an hour and make sure that calls, texts, and data all work
3.) Power down the new iPhone
4.) Now reactivate the old S3. You will use the S3 and its SIM so don't toss that
5.) Now activate the iPhone on your line using your old SIM

You will reactivate the old S3 SIM and not need to use an adapter.

Okay, but that method will allow Line 1 to keep UDP and both lines will get a Nexus 6 at the end right? Thanks in advance!

Yes, as long as you transfer the upgrade.

Don't bother with the Best Buy method. Because you have two tiered lines, it is much easier to do the following:

1.) Log into Verizon online and transfer your upgrade from Line 1 to Line 3 (or 4)
2.) Order the phone you want for Line 1 using the upgrade that is now on Line 3; have the phone shipped to home
3.) When the new phone arrives, activate it on Line 3 following the included directions. Keep the phone activate on Line 3 for at least an hour and make sure that calls, texts, and data all work
4.) After an hour, log back into Verizon and reactivate the Droid Turbo on Line 3.
5.) Activate the new phone on Line 1

All you need to do is do this twice for your unlimited lines and you'll be all set. This will solve your mismatched SIMs and you won't have to worry about any pending activations. This will extend your unlimited lines to a new 2 year contract, but it will not affect the contract length of the Droid Turbos (Lines 3 and 4).

thanks!! i will give that a try!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Keep the iPhone active until the pending activation goes away.

Why are you afraid of the pending activation? Are you using that line for any other upgrades in the next couple months?

My brother also needs a new phone so I was trying to figure out a way to kill 2 birds with one stone! Thanks for your help! This is a great forum!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

got S6, yet don't have it. Will activate it today when i get home will post. I love to sale my UDP for hundreds if anyone interested.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 5 phone lines
L1: G2, Unlimted - upgrade available
L2: S3, Unlimted - upgrade available
L3: Flip - no upgrade available
L4: iPhone 6 plus, 4GB - no upgrade available
L5: Note 2, 2GB- no upgrade available

I want to upgrade L1 and L2 and keep UDP.
L2 (S3) to G3 from BB for a penny.
by doing the BB method, do you still have to pay activation fee?

Which is the easiest/ best way to upgrade L2 w/o losing UDP and not to pay activation fee?

also, can someone please tell me how to root G2?

BB is on the way; ordered it on Sat and will arrive following Tuesday as per email. Curious question. I USED L2 to order from BB initially, and what happens if I activate this new arrival phone on the other line? such as L1, L4, or L5, not that I will do this but was curious to think what happens if I put the other old simcard to the new phone L2 upgrade?

If you activate the phone directly on another line, it will be programmed for that line's data plan. L2 will have a pending activation, but that was going to anyways because of the Best Buy Method.

Transfer upgrade from line 1 to line 2. You can then activate the phone on line 2. Do this on Verizon's website. Do not do it on the store. If you SIM cards are all the same size just swap them around to get the phones on the lines you want them.

You don't really need to activate the phone on line 2 first. If you don't you will be left with a pending activation for up several months.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks....small problem, the line 2 smartphone does not have a sim card (motorla droid), any suggestions??

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was looking online to transfer my upgrade to the line 2 and noticed that verizon was still charging my line 1 with the upgrade and would remove my udp status is this something new verizon has come up with to close this loop hole??

What are you seeing? Take a screen shot. You will be charged the upgrade on line 1 and the contract will be extended for line 1. It should not make you change the data plan.

You can still do the upgrade. When you get the Phone you can just go online and reactivate the Motorola Droid. (That is an old phone if it is the original.)

So, can't you just transfer the upgrade from L1 to L2 either on the BB site or Verizon, keep current data plan, order the phone, have shipped to home address, activate the new phone on L2 making a couple calls/texts, put the original L2 phone back on L2, and finally put the new phone on the UDP L1??
