[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Step 3 in the process causes the new SIM card to be recoded to the unlimited line. That is why it is safe to do the steps that I outlined. As long as you do not activate the new phone on the dumb line, it will stay at $9.99 a month. Basically, when the phone arrives, do not turn it on. Instead, immediately log into Verizon and activate it on to your wife's unlimited line. The IMEI and SIM numbers should be easily available (usually a sticker on the box).

With this said, if you feel more comfortable getting a SIM ahead of time, the steps still work. You'll just use the SIM you got rather than the one with the phone. Either way, you'll end up doing the same thing...logging into Verizon, coding the SIM for your wife's unlimited plan, and activating the phone on her line.

As for the upgrade fee, there is no way to avoid it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What are my options? I have family plan; line 1 is UDP line on contract and line 2 is a basic line month to month. Basic line wants an upgrade to a smart phone. Is there a way to get UDP on line 2? Does the Iphone trick still work for adding a udp line? If that works would I be stuck with the basic line? If I just upgrade line 2 to a tiered plan, would verizon wonder and do something about my udp line that is somehow under contract? If I add a feature such as an international plan to line 1 or 2 for a month, would they also look at how the UDP is under contract?

Edit: Seems like apple doesn't have the option for unlimited data anymore.

Unfortunately, Apple closed that loophole back in November so you are stuck with getting a tiered data plan for the basic line. With that said, if you upgrade the basic line online, you'll have no problems. Verizon is not going to audit your account if you shop online. If you go in-store, it is possible to run into a rep that manually moves you off unlimited; though, that is fairly rare.

Most likely, you'll be fine and have no problems even if your unlimited line is "under contract".

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have droid razor maxx. I want IP6.

Ok. I'm seeing from other websites that Best Buy is having problems with online orders for Verizon. Unfortunately, with single-line plans, your only real option is to order through 3rd party retailers. I would wait a couple of days to see if this gets fixed.

Also, keep an eye out to see if Pringles updates us with her method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Did Pringles update through verzionwireless? I read her/his posts. Hopefully that way works too, but I assume 3rd party would be safer than vzw's website.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone had any problems with upgrading a single line 4G LTE UPD from apple.com?

Do you know if anyone has had any problems with BB method through apple.com? It made me choose a data plan and a texting plan. I wanted to get your input before continuing with it.

It doesn't work through Apple.com. You'll just need to wait until Best Buy fixes its system.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

BestBuy.com is selling a Samsung Galaxy S5 for $1 with 2-yr contract

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I wanted to share that someone had posted ordering on the PHONE from best buy and he still has his unlimited data. It was in another forum (SD).

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Help!

I really need to know what phone to replace the S4 with to tether etc.
On Verizon

No rooting is required to get tethering.

ApeEatsApple is correct. Any new Android you get will run FoxFi and provide you with free a hotspot.

I use FoxFi to provide a wi-fi hot spot, a BT hot spot, and USB tethering. I am also on Verizon.

The app may cost $7.99 as a 1-time purchase. But that is it.
FoxFi works on Lollipop and KitKat.
I am currently using FoxFi on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 5 phone lines
L1: G2, Unlimted - upgrade available
L2: S3, Unlimted - upgrade available
L3: Flip - no upgrade available
L4: iPhone 6 plus, 4GB - no upgrade available
L5: Note 2, 2GB- no upgrade available

I want to upgrade L1 and L2 and keep UDP.
L2 (S3) to G3 from BB for a penny.
by doing the BB method, do you still have to pay activation fee?

Which is the easiest/ best way to upgrade L2 w/o losing UDP and not to pay activation fee?

also, can someone please tell me how to root G2?

I'm not sure about the activation fee, but by far the safest way is to transfer your upgrades to either of you two tiered lines. For instance, to upgrade L2 to a G3, you would do the following:

1.) Log on to Best Buy (or Verizon)
2.) Transfer upgrade from Line 2 to Line 5
3.) Upgrade Line 5 to the G3 and have it shipped home
4.) When the G3 arrives, activate it on Line 5 for an hour (make sure call, text, data all work)
5.) Power off the G3, log onto Verizon, and reactivate the Note 2
6.) Finally, activate the G3 on Line 2

All you need to do is repeat this process for Line 1 and you'll keep unlimited on both lines.

we have 5 lines with verizon Nationwide talk&txt share. 2 lines have already lost unlimited data so:

line 1 (me) UDP iPhone 5 - upgrade available
line 2 UDP droidx2 - upgrade available
line 3 2gb iPhone 4 - upgrade not available
line 4 UDP droidBionic - upgrade available
line 5 2gb samsung galaxy s3 - upgrade available

I really do not want to lose my unlimited data but I need a new phone, my line is the 1st one with the iPhone 5. I want to get the iPhone 6 at the discounted price. Since my brothers phone doesn't have the UDP, which is line 5, and has an upgrade available, how do I use his line to get my iPhone 6 without losing my unlimited data during the switching process? I was told at the verizon wireless store (corporate) that there is no way to use line 5's upgrade for myself (line 1) without losing my UDP. The rep told me that any upgrade within the same family plan is recognized by the system and once I activate the new phone (even if i use my brothers upgrade, line 5) the system will automatically recognize it and I will lose my unlimited data.

Is there anyone that has recently tried doing this and was successful?? I'm really afraid of losing my unlimited data. How can I get around this?

Thanks in Advance!!

You can just upgrade his line directly. When you get the Phone you can put it right on your line (just swap the sim). You will be left with a pending activation. Or he could activate the phone on his line then swap your sim. He then to reactivate his old sim out get a new micro sim. He could even upgrade in the store. When he gets the phone just ask them to reactivate the old phone.

You are on no danger of losing your unlimited this way. Later if you want to use your upgrade just transfer it's upgrade to a tiered line. Do that all online.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

First of all, thanks a lot for keeping this thread going and answering questions.

We have 2 lines:
L1) Nexus with UDP
L2) Basic phone
.

Both have upgrade available. We anyway want to upgrade the basic phone to smart phone. I have ordered online at VZW a Nexus 6 to replace the basic phone with adding a data plan. I did not touch the UDP on the existing smart phone and it still shows the UDP.

I want to use the UDP line L1 on the new phone once it arrives and use the newly added limited line L2 on the old phone.

Questions:
1) When the new phone and SIM arrive, do I activate the new phone first and then swap SIMs or do I put the existing SIM in the new phone and put the new SIM in existing phone before activating?
2) Do I have to use the switch device steps in Verizon Online or not?
3) Once this is done, after sometime, can I transfer upgrade from Line L1 (UDP) to Line L2 (non-UDP) and upgrade L2 without losing UDP on L1?

Thanks.

1) Activate the new phone on line 2.

2) Since you are not using the unlimited upgrade, you are not in danger of losing it. You can swap the phones online, by swapping SIM cards or by going into a store. I would swap the online because the SIM card are different sizes. Better yet get some sim adapters so you swap phones in the future.

3) yes, should be able to do it as soon as the pending order is off line 2. This should happen as soon as the new phone is activated. If you get the SIM cards to be the same size when you do step one it will be really easy.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok I just want to make sure I got it

so I order the new iPhone 6 under my brothers upgrade, once i get the phone in the mail, i remove the sim it came with and i put my sim card in? then turn on the new iPhone and I'm all set? what about the pending activation on my brothers line?
