[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

.That is what I was worried about. Another question I have is if I order from best buy using the basic phone upgrade, can just cut my current S3 sim card using a template or cutter to fit the Galaxy s6? It should work since I am not using the sim card from best buy correct?

Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

BEST THREAD EVER! THANKS TO EVERYONE! I think I'm about to try the BB Method.
Line1 iPhone6plus, UDP, No Upgrade
Line2 Dummy Line (I have been paying $10/mo. and using this line for upgrades only) Upgrade Available.

Does it matter that no actual phone is active on line 2? I'm thinking I need to upgrade line 2 to a Galaxy s6 through BB and have it delivered and destroy the sim. Can someone confirm this will work ok? Thanks!
That should work. I did the same thing to get an iPhone 6 from Apple.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Best Buy is usually in store only on new phones. If it is letting you ship it make sure your bill is paid on Verizon. If you have one do, pay it and then try again.

An update: I just kept trying to place my order. It eventually ended up letting me ship to my house and dropped the message to call. So hopefully all goes as planned and I can slip in my nano sim from my Moto X and be golden.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

HI I am trying to figure this out. I have two lines

L1: Galaxy S3 UDP, upgrade available
L2: Basic phone, upgrade available

I want to order Galaxy S6 from best buy

My plan is to order the S6 using the upgrade on my L2 basic phone through best buy. When it arrives, log into Verizon online and activate the phone directly onto the unlimited line (L1). Use the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the phone.

My question/confusion comes from if I order from best buy and not verizon do I have to destroy the sim that comes with the phone? I know my Galaxy S3 sim isn't compatible. I do not want to order a nano sim ahead of time either. Do I need to order it through Verizon using this method or can I do the same thing through Best Buy? I just want to make sure that the sim I get with the phone, that I ordered from Best Buy, when reprogrammed to the UDP line (L1) won't cause me to lose UDP or be stuck with a new TDP for 2 years on the basic line.

Thank you

Hypothetically, your plan is fine and will work. The SIM you receive from Best Buy should be able to be reprogrammed to the unlimited data line. Verizon's SIMs are typically the same regardless of where you get it from (Verizon, Best Buy, Amazon, etc...). Now, Apple and Android use different types of SIMs, but that is another matter altogether.

I'm not sure if I know of anyone who has gone completely this route. Typically, they order a new SIM first. Feel free to test it out if you want and report back to us.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

There a a billion answers for so many different situations on here. If someone could point me in the right direction for my situation it would be greatly appreciated.
Line #1 UDP- Galaxy S5 - up for upgrade
Line #2 TDP - Galaxy S4 - no upgrade

I pre ordered the Galaxy s6 from best buy last week (in store pick up only). The mobile guy told me that if i switch the upgrade (when I pick it up) from line 1 to line 2 then i would still end up loosing my UDP for line 1 even though i would be upgrading line 2. Is this true? I dont see how they can do that. What are my options to pick the s6 up and switch it to line 1? also are the sim cards going to be the same?

Should I wait until it is available to ship to my house maybe? I would be awesome if i could just switch the upgrade from line 1 to line 2 and just switch the s6 to line 1 later that day.

thanks for the advise

Here is the thing, what you want to do is the preferred method. Transferring the unlimited upgrade to the tiered line is the way to go. The problem is that you are doing it in-store. Every method that currently works involved shipping the device to home. In-store pick up tends to lead to lies, harassment, and the possibility of a rep changing your plan for the hell of it.

If you want the S6 as soon as possible, you need to order from Verizon since Best Buy is doing in-store only. Otherwise, you need to wait.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Update- I was unable to order my upgrade on BB.com after several attempts over 2 days, even with a zero balance and checkout as guest. I always ended up at the 2051 error verizon requires more info. Best buy customer service helped me order my phone and it is being shipped to the house. Assuming all the paperwork regarding my plan looks good- that may be the way to go now.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have four lines, that look like this:

Nationwide Talk Text Share 2000
L1 UDP S3 Yes
L2 UDP S3 Yes
L3 UDP Nexus Yes
L4 UDP Nexus No

I want to upgrade phones on L1, L2, L3 and use the phone currently on L1 on L4. Since all are on UDP already, I think from reading posts, I shouldn't turn on the new phones I order. Just swap sims and I'm good to go?

Yes that should work. Just make sure you keep track of the phones, it would get complicated with that many phones. You also need to order them one at a time. You should Adlai make sure the right sim size SIM card is on each line before you order.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 2 lines-
L1 udp line month to month now - of course "due for an upgrade" that will steal my upd
L2- tdp - upgrade due in november 2015.

I'm trying to get a new phone on my udp line. When on verizons website- Im trying to give L2 my upgrade from L1- then get a new phone with the upgrade on L2 and swap it over to my L1 to end up with a new phone on my udp line.

Verizon won't let me do this- I've called twice. Any changes will kill my udp- they say my only option is to by a used phone or pay full price for a phone if I want a new phone on my udp line.

Im interested in getting best buys $1 s5 - Is it safe to just register my udp line with them and try to ship the phone to my house, and then use the procedures on this thread to not turn on the new phone with the new sim, but just use my old sim in the new phone and keep my udp?

** also- i've tried bb inputting l2 phone number- since the verizon website won't let me give my udp upgrade to line 2- the best buy web site doesn't see l2 as being due for an upgrade. so its trying to say i'll be signing up for Edge . Can i just proceed with this on l2 and be safe when the phone arrives to swap my swim card from current phone on l1 and achieve my goal?

I think I can but since verizon says no, best buy says no- Im asking you guys.. Thanks!

Do not call Verizon when using a loophole. You can transfer the upgrade on Verizon or through Best Buy if it lets you. I would definitely transfer the upgrade. If you can't you can do the regular best buy method. That is order the phone for delivery. Do not turn it in, remove and destroy sim. Put unlimited sim in phone. Make sure you have the right size SIM active before you order.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 5 lines with UDP and a $20 Verizon credit per line (saves $100 monthly on my bill) if I upgrade the 5 lines will I lose the monthly credit?

Hi Mr. Toad,

I have a month to month unlimited data plan, can I suspend the service for 3 months and then continue to use it without losing UDP? Thanks.

If you are referring to that talk and text $20 credit off data we got a couple years ago, you will keep the discount. I have the same discount and have upgraded several times since we got that and have kept my discount.

That should not be a problem. I have suspended my lines without any problems.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for you help Mr. Toad.

Verizons website makes it seem like there is no way to save the transfer. When I select to transfer the upgrade from L1 to L2, it immediately wants me to go shopping for the upgrade but it doesn't allow me to not immediately buy a phone and just save the transfer. There's no save button, just a "continue " type button. If i end up not picking out a phone, and sign out of the account- when I sign back in there's my upgrade still sitting on L1 like I never touched it.

Also, could you briefly explain how if I get my $1 s5 from best buy- do they expect me to start making payments to them for the phone? If im not going thru with the deal to get the $1 phone , but still have them ship it to me and do the magic on this thread- will not best buy be calling me asking me why I stole a phone from them? I've never bought a phone outside of verizons website- I'm curious where best buy makes their money off giving me a phone for a buck here. Thanks for any input!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

L1 - S4 UDP - upgrade available
L2 - Droid Turbo TDP - no upgrade available

I want to transfer the upgrade from L1 to L2 then upgrade L2 online at Verizon to a S6. When I receive the new phone I will use it on L2 for about 1 hour. I plan to cut down L1 SIM to a nano to fit the S6.

After I have swapped the S4 SIM to the S6, do I need to swap the SIM that came with the S6 to the Droid Turbo or keep the existing SIM for L1?

You can not save the upgrade transfer. You can only make the transfer and purchase the new phone at the same time on Verizon's website.

You are not stealing the phone from Best Buy. You are agreeing to two years of service. Best Buy makes money from Verizon by selling the two year agreements.

You need to swap one of the Nano SIMs to Line 1 to use in the S6. When the S6 is activated on line 2 you should be able to reactivate the old Nano SIM onto line 1. Then just swap the SIMs around.
