[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

that wouldn't cause him to start paying for data though if I'm "upgrading" on his line?

In November, Verizon got rid of the ability to move a basic line's upgrade to a smartphone line. However, the actual changing of plan is related to activating the device on the line. In the two scenarios provided, you are not activating the new smartphone the basic line. Therefore, it remains a basic line. This happens because you are activating the new smartphone onto another line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You only have a couple of options are this point:

Option 1: Take the phone to a VAR and see if they will activate it for you. I have seen positive posts on the new Slickdeals thread, but you are on your own with this one

Option 2: Start over. You will need to return the new iPhone, get your old 4s reactivated on the account, and have your upgrade restored. Once this is done, I would recommend trading phones with your husband for a little bit. Then do the Best Buy method and give him his phone back.

My 4s is still active on my acct. I don't see a pending order on my new iPhone 6 at all. Wondering if I called them to try to re activate a different 4s. But of course I entered the imei number on my new 6 thinking the activation was going through bc I got that far and now that shows on my acct. I should probably just start over???? Ugh this stinks! Should I call or no?? I can always return everything if they try to change my plan anyway right??

I'm not sure what is going on if you don't have a pending activation. If you are going to do anything, I would recommend taking it to a VAR and having them activate it for you. I think you would be playing with fire if you called Verizon, but that is your choice.

I logged back on to verizon and just tried to look at my plan and I do have a pending equipment order on my account. My next eligible upgrade is now 2017. You still recommend going to a verizon authorized retailer to try to activate??

People on the slickdeals thread are claiming success by going to a VAR after ordering a phone from Best Buy. No one over here has done it yet. You can try if you want.

Otherwise, I would recommend returning everything and starting over. Activate your husband's iPhone on your line before upgrading.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As long as you activate the new S6's on a different lines than where the upgrades came from, you can easily get what you want. It will take some time, and you'll need to place 3 individual orders, but you just need to do the following:

1.) Through Verizon online, order a S6 using the upgrade on Line 2 and have it shipped to home
2.) When the new smartphone arrives, do not turn it on or plug it in, rather log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device
3.) Select Line 1 - it should ask you if you want to activate or verify the new device that was just shipped to you - you click "No, I want to activate a different device" or "Not activating my new device at this time, take me to the Activate or Switch Device page"
4.) Select that you want to activate a device that has not been on your account before
5.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers of the S6 and follow the rest of the directions to activate the S6 on Line 1

This will now get you a S6 on line 1 and all other lines/phones are still the same. The next step is to move the S3 to Line 2. Just follow the directions I listed above from steps 3-5. The only difference is that you would select Line 2 and that you have a phone previously on your account (S3).

Once this is done, then you just need to repeat steps 1-5 above by changing the lines. Use Line 1's upgrade to get an iPhone on Line 3. Use Line 3's upgrade to get a S6 on Line 4. All of this will take a little bit of time, so be prepared for that. Do not try to rush the process.

If you run into any problems, you can try cutting the SIMs as a last resort. However, the above should work just fine for you account.

Thanks for the instructions.

Just to be clear, I do NOT have to move upgrades around? Use L3's upgrade on L1? and so forth? I can just order the upgrade, and then activate the phone on a different line......and I do NOT need to cut down the SIMS? I can use the SIMS the phone ships with?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The following was in the confirmation email that I received after ordering my phone from Verizon.

Plan Details
Contract Renewal: 2-year contract
A data package (minimum of $30/month) is required for the minimum contract term.

Did I do something wrong or will I still avoid the data charge when I destroy the SIM card?

That's standard. Just destroy the SIM card and follow the directions I provided.

You can't move an upgrade to a line that already has an upgrade. That's why you just use an upgrade, but activate on a different line. You can use the SIMs that come with the phones because the steps provided will reprogram them to the unlimited data.

Don't get rid of your old SIMs until all phones are activate. You can cut them as a last resort if something happens.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Samsung Galaxy S6 due tomorrow. I got the SIM cutting tool in from Amazon today.

My situation again:

L1: Moto Razr UPD - Upgrade
L2: iPhone6 TDP - No Upgrade (Edit: Data Plan is specifically "More Every Unl Tlk Txt 15GB")
L3: Verizon Router TDP - No Upgrade

I transferred the upgrade from the UDP line to Line 2 (TDP) via Verizon.com. When the new phone comes in, do I use the SIM that comes with it to activate my TDP iPhone or use the current SIM from the iPhone?

Just being ultra careful since losing UDP would be catastrophic to our business.

Just activate the phone on the tiered line as normal following the directions provided. The good news is that it is very simple since both the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 use nano-SIMs. Just do this:

1.) When the phone arrives, power off the iPhone
2.) Log into Verizon online and activate the S6 on the tiered line following the directions (you'll end up moving the iPhone SIM into the S6 since they are the same size, but wait for Verizon to tell you to do this)
3.) After you have activated the S6 on the tiered line, you will want to activate the iPhone 6 on the unlimited line. This can be easily done by clicking on "activate or switch devices" and selecting a "device that has been previously on the account". You will use the iPhone and SIM card that comes with the S6. Just follow the directions and you'll activate the iPhone 6 on the unlimited account.
4.) Once you have the S6 on the tiered line and the iPhone on the unlimited line, all you need to do is swap SIMs. This will put the phones on their appropriate lines.

These 4 steps will upgrade your phone and keep unlimited. There is no need to cut your old SIM.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Current lines:
1. Moto X 2013 UDP Upgrade transfered to line 2.
2. IPhone 5s TDP

After I transferred my upgrade I ordered a Galaxy S6 which I got today. Just want to double check my method and clarify a few things regarding the SIM cards being used since all use nano SIM cards.
1. Activate S6 on line 2 with the pre-installed nano SIM? OR just put the IPhone SIM card in the S6?
2. Use phone for an hour making calls ect.
3. Activate IPhone 5 back onto line 2 using the SIM from the S6? OR the original SIM that was in the Iphone 5s?
4. Take the SIM out of Moto x and install into S6.

Maybe I'm over complicating this. Thanks for any assistance.
Edit: This is pretty much identical to the above post, just slightly different since all phones currently use nano SIM

Or can I just swap my Sim from the moto to the s6? I haven't turned the phone on, just have it plugged in to charge currently.

I decided to take my phone and new sim to an authorized verizon retailer and they activated it for me no problem!!!! I have a new iPhone 6 and still have unlimited data!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

In order to avoid a pending activation, I would just do the following:

1.) Activate it on the tiered line for about an hour. This will remove the pending activation. Just follow the directions online, but you will eventually just take the SIM from the iPhone 5 and put it into the S6 since both use nano.
2.) After an hour, power down the S6.
3.) Take the SIM in the S6 and put it back in the iPhone 5.
4.) Take the SIM from the Moto X and put it in the S6.

You could bypass all of this and just go directly from the Moto X to the S6 by moving the Moto X's SIM. However, my personal preference is to avoid pending activations if you can. This way, if something happens, you can safely take it to a Verizon store. That's why I wrote out the 4 steps above.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Read through many pages but couldn't find an upgrade strategy that matches my situation.

I'd like to upgrade my s3 to the s6 and keep my UDP.

There are 4 lines on the account, 3 have UDP including my s3. Upgrades are available on 3 of the lines, including my UDP s3. Only the tiered line does not currently have an upgrade.

I would like to purchase the s6 at costco. I already have an unused nano-sim that I got at a VWR. What is the best way of going about this? I assume that I need to transfer my upgrade to the tiered line, and purchase the s6 with this upgrade. Is it possible to purchase in-store at costco without them activating the phone? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you guys for your information with the community!

I would like to clarify what I need to do if you guys don't mind.

Switched upgrade fro line 1 UDP (galaxy s4) to TDP line 2 (galaxy s5) and ordered the galaxy s6 (via verizon.com) and I'm having it come to my house.
My main question is, what do I do now specifically when the phone arrives!
Your input is greatly appreciated!.
