[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I did this as well. It works. Just stay out nice and if they refuse, be politely firm.
I think I read

I also have a Verizon UDP plan and want to upgrade my Razr Maxx to the Galaxy S6, but only have 1 line on that account.

Looks to me like everyone using the method of swapping SIM cards and switching phones is doing so with multiple lines.

Can I simply add a line to my account, order the S6 under that line and them swap SIM cards and so on when it arrives?
I think I read a few pages back around 358 that you can just order the upgrade on your line and when the phone comes destroy the sim card immediately before turning it on or charging it then place your sim card from your razr into the s6 and let it activate itself and do not answer phone calls from best buy or Verizon for a few months till the pending activation falls off. I may be off a few steps but I think it's possible?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I know this is probably me being paranoid, but I figured I'd get a second opinion anyway. I originally had a Droid RAZR with UDP. Used the BBY method to upgrade to the HTC One M8, cut down my micro SIM into a nano SIM. Everything worked with no problems.

Back in January I dropped my M8 in the snow and it eventually stopped working. I went out and bought the Motorola Luge prepaid for $50 when it was on sale as a temporary phone. Used the adapter that came with the SIM cutter so that my cut down SIM would fit in the the micro SIM slot.

Fast forward to now: I finally was able to replace my M8. Paid $350 unactivated at Best Buy yesterday. My question is, since I bought this phone outright, would I be okay just activating the nano SIM that came preinstalled, or should i just remove it and use my original SIM to be on the safe side?

If you are really worried, just remove the new SIM and take the M8 to a VAR. They will be able to activate it without any problems. My guess is that it is safe to use the new SIM, but the choice is really yours.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

PLEASE HELP ASAP (May need to cancel order) Spoke to Best Buy and they will only allow me to purchase 2 phones in 1 yr. I am a family of 5 and we all NEED new phones. How can I keep my UDP and still get 5 new phones. Please help ASAP as I may have to cancel the 2 new phones I have already ordered. Was thinking about ordering from amazon also and that would bring me to 4 but not sure how to get the 5th or if doing amazon will work like best buy does.

Thank you!!

What current phones and plans do you have? How many have unlimited data? Depending on your responses will determine the best course of action.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I thought you couldn't do the dummy line anymore? Would I be better off doing that method?

The method is slightly different. Rather than activating the phone on basic line, you activate it directly onto the unlimited line. It's just a matter of whether you want to keep that line.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to add another line, that it's extremely easy. If you do not want to add another line, do the following:

1.) Order the S6 from Best Buy and have it shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, remove the SIM that comes with the phone and destroy it. Do not turn the phone on or plug it in!

From here you have two options:

A.) Cut your SIM in the Razr Maxx to a nano. Put the SIM in the S6 and turn it on. The phone will activate in a couple of minutes.
or
B.) Take phone to a VAR for activation.

I guess I'll save money if I close the dummy line I'd just hate to see them close all loops but that one lol guess it's a roll of the dice!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

First off thanks for all individuals taking time to respond to these questions. I'm confused on current option based on no SIM ifor older iphone

Line 1 : UDP Iphone 4 upgrade available
Line 2 : UDP S4 upgrade available
Line 3: dumb phone no data no upgrade

End goal:
Replace iphone 4 with iphone 6, leave S4 as-is

Thanks in advance

Not a problem. Just do the following:

1) Through Verizon or Best Buy online, order the new smartphone the UDP Line wants by transferring the upgrade from the unlimited line to the basic line and have it shipped to home not shipped to store;
2) When the new smartphone arrives, do not turn it on, rather log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device; and
3) Select the UDP Line and that you want to activate a device that has not been on your account before, type in the IMEI of the new smartphone and the SIM card number of the SIM card that shipped with the new smartphone and follow the directions to activate the new smartphone on the UDP line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ah, you are right. Sorry, did not expect it to be so buried in there!
For now the best option I see is to just cut down my existing micro SIM card to nano size for use in the new s6. I think it's the best shot I have, although I am slightly worried that my current micro SIM might be so old that the new phone would not take it. I am not familiar with how SIM cards actually work, so I do not know if this is even possible or if I can expect a micro SIM card which has not been touched in years to just work as a nano SIM card in a new phone. I'll report back when I know how it turns out! Unfortunately it might take around 3 or 4 weeks to fully realize this process.

I did have a question regarding the "pending activation" status. Has there ever been a case where this has come back to bite anyone, or that it did not get removed from an account? Should this be something I quickly call to request getting removed (say, after 14 days of new phone purchase), should I wait a month or 2 before calling to request its removal, or do I just wait a few months and it disappears automatically?

FurryJean . . . Looks like I'm about to embark on the same Journey you recently wen on!

I want to upgrade from my Razr Maxx to theh Galaxy S6 . . . How as this Process worked out for you so far?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so here's my plan correct me if I'm wrong lol
I'm going to go to best buy to purchase the s6 for my wife's line that I will be transferring my upgrade to from my udp. Don't let them open it or turn it on. Get home activate the s6 with new sim card on wife's line for an hour or more then turn off s6 remove new sim and install it back to iPhone 5c go to Verizon web site switch phone to pre-existing iphone 5c on my wife's line then switch the s6 to my udp line and activate it with her old sd card? Sorry for the redundancy I am just terrified of losing my udp lol if I'm taking to many steps or the wrong steps let me know. Thank you sooooooo much for all of your help EVERYONE especially DUSOCCER!

Btw soccer I'm not intentionally ignoring your advice I just have no choice other than being without a phone till possibly the end of May gfb. You should post for donations like devs do for your time and incredible effort in helping 363 pages of people get the next biggest thing without losing their biggest plan!

Through Verizon site it states "Purchase of this smartphone requires a data plan (minimum of $30/ month) for the length of the service contract term, or you can move to our new MORE Everything pricing." when choosing it. Does agreeing to this kick in the billing or only after activation?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm new to the thread and have read as much as i could. Does the best buy method still work for sure? Can i get a step by step help with my account. I'm so paranoid about loosing unlimited.

Only after activation. That's why the method works. You'll have a pending activation on the basic line for a month or two, but that will eventually fall off.

Assuming you can leave with the phone, that should work just fine.
