[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just wanted to give a big thanks to dusoccer10, I did as you said and I now have unlimited data on my galaxy S6.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've been following this thread for awhile and think I have the gist of the process down. I have a question though. What happens if I have a phone with a regular sim card, and the phone I want has a nano slot. I can't just order the phone I want on another line and then swap my SIM into it. Suggestions?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Any thoughts on this scenario?

Line 1 - UDP contract up, upgrade available
Line 2 - 2gb data plan, upgrade available 7/2016

Last July i used line 2's upgrade to get a gs5 for line 1. Any way i can access the upgrade for line 1 and get a new phone?

Transfer the upgrade to Line 2.

You can order a phone on another line, transfer the phone online and then reactivate the old sim.

You should give more information about your lines. What phone/sim, data plan and it an upgrade is available.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, I'd like to figure out a way to upgrade one of my phones with UDP.
Line 1: Samsung Galaxy S4 upgrade eligible - UDP
Line 2: Iphone 5 upgrade eligible - TDP
Line 3: basic phone no upgrade
Line 4: Iphone 4 upgrade eligible - UDP

Is there any way I could upgrade either line 1 or 4 without losing UDPs? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you so much for this thread! Any ideas for me?
Line 1 -LG Lucid TDP no upgrade
Line 2-S5 UDP upgrade available
Line 3-S5 TDP upgrade available
Line 4 IPhone 5 TDP no upgrade
Line 5 dumb phone upgrade available

I have an old Nationwide Talk and Text plan. I am looking to get a smartphone onto line 5 without killing my UDP on line 2. Tried to order a phone on line 5 online thru VZ, and got a pop up that warned that one of my lines has unlimited data and that it is no longer available and that I will need to choose a new plan in order to buy a new phone with one of my upgrades. Thanks for any help you can offer!

You should give more information about your lines. What phone/sim, data plan and it an upgrade is available.

Line 1 - UDP Nokia 822, Upgrade available
Line 2 - 6GB LG G3, No upgrade available
Line 3 - 2GB Motorola Turbo, No upgrade available

I was going to transfer my upgrade on Line 1 to Line 3, order a Galaxy S6, and then put my own sim into it, but the sim in my current phone is a different size. Would I have to buy a cutter?

I would upgrade line 2 first. You can then transfer your upgrades to Line 2. You can then swap SIMs our transfer the devices online.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks. Is there any chance I could use the dumb phone upgrade instead? Reason being the HTC one is not available for upgrade like I originally thought. I did call verizon today and they are sending me a nano sim card if that matters.

Sure. You'll end up with a pending activation on the basic line for a month or so, but you can go that route:

1.) Order the S6 using the basic line's upgrade from Best Buy or Verizon and have the phone shipped to home
2.) When it arrives, do not turn it on or try to charge it.
3.) Log into Verizon online
4.) Select "activate or switch device"
5.) Select Line 1
6.) Choose a device that has never been on the account before
7.) Enter the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the S6
8.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the S6 on Line 1

For step 7, if you would prefer to use the new SIM card coming in the mail, you can use that. Or you can use the one that is shipped with the phone. Either way is fine.

No. In this scenario, you do not need to cut or use your old pre-existing SIM. Do the following:

1.) Transfer the upgrade to Line 3 and order the S6. Have it shipped to home from either Best Buy or Verizon
2.) When it arrives, activate the phone on Line 3 following the directions that come with the phone
3.) Wait at least an hour and make sure the S6 works as normal
4.) While you are waiting, power off the Nokia 822
5.) Activate the Droid Turbo on Line 1 temporarily
6.) After an hour or so, just swap SIMs between the S6 and the Turbo to put them on the correct lines.

That is odd. You can probably do it through Best Buy without that message. Otherwise, feel free to go into a store. Since you are not upgrading an unlimited line, you'll be fine.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi Everyone, here is my situation
I currenlt have 5 lines on my account
1st line - UDP Iphone 6. Upgrade available
2nd line UDP. Samsung Galaxy S4. No Upgrade
3rd line TDP. Samsung Galaxy S4. No Upgrade
4th Line No Data. No Upgrade
5th line NO Data. No Upgrade

I wanted to upgrade line 2 to a Nexus 6 and keep my unlimited Data. What would be the best way in doing this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for the reply. I can transfer someone else's sim to my number?

Transfer the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 3. Actuate the phone on line 3 then either swap SIMs or transfer the phone on the website.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you for the reply. I can transfer someone else's sim to my number?

SIMs can be reprogrammed to any verizon number and plan. When you activate the Droid Turbo, you'll program the SIM for unlimited data. Then, when you swap SIMs, you'll move the unlimited SIM into the S6.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1: Dumb phone - upgrade available
Line 2: Smart phone - upgrade available (mine)
Line 3: Dumb phone - upgrade available
Line 4: Dumb phone - upgrade available

I tried searching for someone with the same setup:

1.) Order a Galaxy S6 from either Best Buy, have it shipped to home using an upgrade on Line 1.
2.) When Galaxy S6 arrives, do not turn it on or try to charge it
3.) Remove the SIM card that comes with the Galaxy S6 and destroy (i assume cut up/flush/burn/etc)
4.) Take the SIM from the Moto X and put it in the Galaxy S6.
5.) Turn on Galaxy S6 and wait a few minutes for it to activate on Line 2.

I saw this quote earlier, I think this is exactly what I need to do as well. Hopefully every line having an upgrade won't matter. Except instead of a galaxy i'm going with something else (G4 maybe?)

  • Because I'm upgrading a dumb phone, I can order from Best Buy or Verizon, but only these 2?

  • I'm going from a Nano sim to a micro sim, depending on the phone, so I'll just buy an adapter on Amazon?

I figured I was going to stay with my Moto X (2013) for a long time, but my battery is just awful. I'm so thankful that someone found a work-around, and is so helpful with sharing!!!
Thank You!!!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you very much for your reply..but it states that i must change my plan in order to transfer my upgrade. Is there any way around this? Thank you very much

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello Everyone!

Here's my current setup:

Line 1: UDP (Upgrade Available, Transferable) Moto X 2014
Line 2: Basic Plan, Dumb Phone (No upgrade) LG VX5200
Line 3: UDP (Upgrade Available, Transferable) LG G3

Wanted an iPhone on Line 2.
I was on the process of transferring the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2, but it told me I would lose the UDP and my Family Plan will be converted to More Everything plan. I want to keep UDP on two lines (1 and 3) What is the safe option? Appreciate any help. Thanks!
